T-Mobile's new 'Forever Upgrade' program for the iPhone 13 isn't really forever

On the evening following Apple's iPhone 13 announcement, T-Mobile unveils its Forever Upgrade program. This means that anyone who purchases any new iPhone 13 model with or without a trade-in is [loosely] guaranteed [up to] an $800 trade-in credit every time you turn in that iPhone for a new one. This sounds enticing enough, but there are a few significant caveats. To start, T-Mobile's trade-in promotion to trade up to an iPhone 13 gets you up to $1000 off a new iPhone. An iPhone 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, 11 Pro, or 11 Pro Max gets you the full promotional amount. You can get $800 off...

Major update enables PlayStation 5's M.2 drive, improves game streaming and more

The Sony PlayStation 5 has a standard M.2 slot for additional storage, but that was disabled at launch. The second major software update for the console finally enables this option and brings other major improvements to the console itself as well as related apps. Let’s start with the major new feature, the storage upgrade. Back in April Sony enabled USB storage, but external drives are too slow to play PS5 games (PS4 games do work, though). Now if you need more room you can add an M.2 drive, as long as it meets certain requirements. First, only NVMe drives are supported, so cheaper,...

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series will not use under display cameras, says Ice Universe

We know it’s coming, but it bears repeating – the Galaxy S22 series will not have an under display camera. Samsung released its first phone with an UDC already, but it only shoots in 4 MP resolution and is meant more for video calls. If you really want to snap a selfie with the Z Fold3, you can use the 10 MP camera on the cover display (or open the phone and use the main cameras). From what we’re hearing, the Galaxy S22 and S22+ will get a major upgrade to their rear cameras, including a 50 MP main sensor, 12 MP tele camera with actual 3x optical magnification (possibly with variable focal...

Google gets $177m fine in South Korea over Android dominance

In the latest big tech legal fiasco, Google was fined KRW 207.4 billion ($177million/€150 million) by The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) in South Korea. The reasoning behind the sanction is the Android maker’s anti-fragmentation agreement (AFA) which required OEMs like Samsung and LG to sign an agreement with Google before gaining access to use Android OS on their devices. This in turn prohibited said OEMs to install modified versions of Android that aren’t explicitly approved by Google on their devices. Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) headquarters in Sejong City The issues...
