Oppo Reno 10x arriving on May 10

Oppo Reno arrived with an unusual shark-fin selfie camera two weeks ago. The company announced the launch date of the regular phone right at the event, but today it said when the variant with 10x zoom camera will be launched and how much would it cost. The date for the Chinese arrival is May 10 and prices start from CNY3,999, or about $600/€530. The flagship has a 13 MP f/3.0 periscope camera on the back, a 48 MP f/1.7 main shooter and third wide-angle snapper with 8 MP sensor and f/2.2 aperture. The front-facing camera, peeking from the elevating mechanism, is 16 MP. With the weird...

Sprint and AT&T settle lawsuit over "5G E" signal logo and marketing

A couple of months back, Sprint filed a lawsuit against AT&T for its misleading use of the "5G E" signal logo on its smartphones. It can lead customers to believe they are on a 5G network when they are, in fact, not. With a market as competitive as the United States', making misleading marketing claims is unfair to other carriers. The latest news about the lawsuit broke from Dallas Business Journal. Ironically, Dallas is home to one of AT&T's first real 5G networks, as long as you had AT&T's 5G-compatible portable "puck" hotspot with compatible data plan. According to the...

Lau confirms that the OnePlus 7 will be announced alongside the OnePlus 7 Pro and it will feature 5G connectivity. Although no pricing information has been revealed, we can expect it to compete against Samsung, Huawei, and Apple's top players - so expect a price tag to match. Lau offers...

Oppo A1k launches in Russia, India pricing rumored at Rs 7,990

Oppo's latest midrange device has arrived in Russia: the Oppo A1k. We've seen it get certified in Thailand and some of its specs leak last month. Thanks to the Russian release, we now have the official list of specifications of the A1k. For starters, the A1k is new variant of the Oppo A1 midrange handset. The A1 launched about a year ago with similar specifications but the new one has a water drop notch and omits the fingerprint scanner to keep cost down. Let's take a closer look at this device. The A1k has a 6.1-inch display with a resolution of 1560 x 720 px which turns out to...

Samsung Galaxy View 2 renders leak showing a new hinged stand design

Samsung's Galaxy View 2 was certified by the Bluetooth SIG and the Wi-Fi Alliance back in September of last year, but it still hasn't gotten official. That, however, may finally happen soon, as today a bunch of official-looking press renders of it have been leaked. Like its predecessor, the original Galaxy View from 2015, the View 2 is a humongous tablet that comes with a built-in stand. While the View had an 18.4" touchscreen, its successor will settle for a slightly smaller 17.5" panel, probably keeping the 1080p resolution. The new model has a redesigned hinged stand, which...

vivo NEX A gets Android 9 Pie update

vivo has been anything but fast to release Android 9 Pie updates for its devices. The company has unveiled its new Funtouch 9 skin last month based on that OS release, and last week we got a timeline saying it would roll out to a total of 13 smartphones by July, in beta form. So clearly vivo is in no rush here. On the flip side, the NEX A has just started receiving a Funtouch 9 build based on Android 9 Pie today in China. It's unclear whether this is a beta release, but we're willing to assume it is, because there has so far been no official mention of finalized non-beta software based...

Huawei P30 Pro torn down on video

There's no doubt that the Huawei P30 Pro has a lot of tech crammed into a smartphone's body and what better way to appreciate it by taking it apart and taking a look at what's inside? YouTuber JerryRigEverything starts the teardown the same way as many others - he uses a heat gun to soften the adhesive on the rear glass. The back of his P30 Pro is the breathing crystal color and this rear glass pane is the first to come off. Thankfully, there aren't any ribbon cables tethered to the rear glass of the phone, so it easily comes off. Right away we can see the upper mainboard and the...

What do you do with a bunch of old Galaxies and iPhones? Wreck them of course.

There are very few topics that are as divisive as phone torture tests. Some people find them interesting and/or informative while others are utterly repulsed by them. We can't say we enjoy seeing phones that were created with so much thought, engineering and effort be subjected to useless violence but in the case of the video below, there's somewhat of an interesting purpose - to see which phones were made better - Galaxies or iPhones. The video, by 'The King of Random' on YouTube pits a bunch of older Samsung Galaxy S phones against a bunch of older iPhones and proceeds to drop them, burn...

Not long after the swirling rumors of an imminent delay, Samsung issues an official statement about the Galaxy Fold's indefinite delays. The first one was due to some kind of defect in the display or folding mechanism, and the other was due to users...

Huawei insiders refute rumors that the Mate X launch will be pushed to September

An unconfirmed report that Huawei is delaying the launch of the Mate X surfaced earlier today. However, new info (Chinese site Phoenix Technology quoting Huawei insiders) refutes those claims, saying that the foldable phone is on track to launch in June. The initial report pointed to Samsung delaying the launch of the Galaxy Fold in several markets along with alleged issues with the BOE-made display on the Huawei (the display on the Galaxy is Samsung-made) as reasons for Huawei to push the launch back to September, supposedly to run more tests. The Huawei Mate X uses a different...

Huawei posts Q1 revenues, sees 39% YoY growth

Despite the budding trade war between the United States and China, Huawei seems to be in top shape heading into 2019. The company's first-quarter report shows it generated a total of CNY 179.7 billion ($26.81 billion) in revenue which translates to a 39% year-on-year (YoY) growth. Samsung postpones the Galaxy Fold launch in certain places

Last week Samsung China sent invitations for events in Shanghai and Hong Kong, where it was expected to launch the Galaxy Fold. Reports are now stating that the company canceled the unveilings, initially planned for April 24 and April 26. Media representatives suggest this is due to the faulty review units and claim the product launch in China will be postponed. According to the same sources, Samsung has stopped training retail employees on how to sell the Galaxy Fold, meaning the company is likely to delay the global market launch as well. Samsung's official statement from last...

Smartphone maker Yota files for bankruptcy

You probably remember the dual-screen YotaPhone from 2012 and its two successors, the YotaPhone 2 and 3, released in the next five years. Well, the company behind those handsets is no longer. The Russian company is having some serious financial problems and it was probably not too hard to guess given that two years have passed and we haven't heard anything from Yota. The news of bankruptcy come from the Cayman Islands Supreme Court where Hi-p Electronics filed a case against the smartphone manufacturer due to the multi-million debt. Hi-p Electronics is the supplier for e-ink...
