New OxygenOS update finally reaches the OnePlus 7T with January security patch

A few days ago OnePlus started sending out a new update for three of its 2019 smartphones, the OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, and 7T Pro. Notably absent from the list was the 7T, which for some reason saw a delayed rollout of what is basically the same update. Now though it is finally going out to OnePlus 7T units in the wild, arriving as OxygenOS 10.0.8 globally and OxygenOS 10.3.1 in India. Once you install this, you'll have the January 2020 security patch level, which is soon to be two months behind, but that's par for the course for OnePlus. The changelog mentions RAM management...

Google's gotten us used to releasing the first Developer Preview of a new Android version in March, but this time around the company has been faster. Android 11/R is now out in the form of Developer Preview 1. As usual, this is not intended to be used by regular consumers because it's very much a first unpolished draft of what will end up being Android 11 later this year. Still, the release is useful because we get a glimpse of the changes headed our way when Android 11 becomes final. Note that this may not be the full list, as Google has the habit of unveiling some more new features...

Are you ready to see something old school? We're talking about chunky bezels and a physical home button - we're talking about what could be the iPhone 9 / SE 2. A short hands-on video surfaced of this alleged "affordable iPhone" that has been all over the rumor mill for a while. It's hard to determine the authenticity of this video. The thick top and bottom bezel on the front and the single camera on the back do match the renders, this phone will...

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip teardown finds the glass beneath a protective plastic layer

The JerryRigEverything durability test showed that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip scratches like plastic - so where's the glass? Zack's complete teardown found it - it's a layer underneath the plastic protective cover. Peeling off the plastic seriously damages the screen though and even causes the glass layer to crack. So, scratch resistance is not among the advantages of using Ultra Thin Glass, you still need to be careful when using the phone. Samsung did improve on another weak point of foldable designs - the hinge. The Hideaway Hinge has a completely new design. You can see the gears and...
