Poco C3 gets certified, likely to be a rebadged Redmi 9

We’ve seen a Poco flagship and a Poco midranger or two, so the next logical step is an entry-level device from the totally independent brand that wants to be completely separate from its parent Xiaomi. A device with the name Poco C3 was certified at the Bluetooth launch studio, alongside a bunch of Redmi phones, including an apparently new device, called Redmi 9AT. Redmi and Poco phones at Bluetooth LS Xiaomi usually puts the year and month of manufacturing the device in the first four digits after the letter M, and the Poco C3 has the moniker M2006C3MI, revealing it has been...

OnePlus Nord gets its first update, improving camera performance

If you're planning on buying the brand new OnePlus Nord, you will have a software update waiting for you to install it when you take the phone out of the box. The Nord has only been official for a few hours, but the first update is already rolling out to review units left and right. It's OxygenOS 10.5.1, and its changelog speaks of optimized video calling performance, as well as a bunch of camera-related stuff: optimized depth sensor effect and indoor image quality, better power efficiency for shooting 4K at 60fps, as well as overall improvements to the camera experience. As usual, system...

LG Velvet lands in the US tomorrow for $599

As you may know, OnePlus unveiled a premium mid-range smartphone today. But wait, LG has one of those too. Sure, the Korean company may have already fully presented the Velvet, but today it decided to announce availability details for the US. The LG Velvet will be out in the States on July 22, aka tomorrow, for $599, from AT&T. T-Mobile and Verizon will both offer it "later this summer". The Velvet will be offered in Aurora Gray, Aurora Silver, Aurora Red, and Pink White. Verizon's model will unsurprisingly support that carrier's mmWave 5G network, thus being named LG Velvet 5G UW...

Netflix is testing Mobile+ plan in India: HD resolution streaming to phones, tablets and PCs

About a year ago Netflix introduced its cheapest plan in India – mobile-only, SD resolution, INR200 a month. Now the company is testing out a more premium version that will bring in sharper HD visuals. The cost of this new Mobile+ plan goes up to INR350 a month ($4.70/€4.10) and the restrictions remain almost the same. You can use only one device – a phone, tablet or computer, Smart TVs are not on the list. Note that the old Mobile plan also excludes PCs from the list of available devices, so that’s another reason to go with Mobile+. Netflix's new INR 350 Mobile+ plan with HD...

Huawei picks BOE to supply Mate 40 displays, Mate 40 Pro will use BOE, Samsung and LG panels

BOE’s on-cell OLED display technology seems to have caught up to the market leaders, Samsung Display and LG Display, and the company has been selected to supply panels for the upcoming Huawei Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro. It will be the exclusive supplier for the vanilla model while the Pro will get its displays from three sources: BOE, Samsung and LG. The company made a bid to supply the P40 displays earlier this year but its tech wasn’t ready yet. BOE is not the only company in China working on on-cell OLED displays – CSOT and Visionox are in the mix as well, though they are yet to score a...

Google Pixel camera's lead developer is now working on a camera app with Adobe

Marc Levoy is the man behind the excellent computational photography that made Pixels famous. He and his team worked on the Night Sight feature, HDR+ and Portrait Mode without requiring a second camera for depth sensing. Well, Marc is now with Adobe and is working on an exciting new project - a universal camera app. What "universal" means is that almost anyone with a smartphone could take advantage of Adobe's app. For now, Adobe's giving little details on the project, but we have little doubt that we will be hearing more about it in the future. AMD unveils Ryzen 4000G desktop APUs, but they are only for OEMs for now

AMD’s desktop APUs lagged behind the mobile offerings and were still using Zen+ cores. That is changing as of today with the announcement of the Ryzen 4000G series, which upgrade to the 7 nm Zen 2 chiplets that we’ve seen in the new mobile APUs. The CPUs range from quad-core setups to octa-core, all with hyper threading. Note that for each Ryzen 4000G APU there is a “GE” version that has a 35 W TDP instead of 65 W (at the cost of reduced base and turbo clock speeds, of course). The move from Zen+ to Zen 2 is massive – based on Cinebench tests, the 4000G series offers up to 2.5x better...

OnePlus Nord hands-on review

OnePlus Buds review

Introduction OnePlus is the latest company to join the TWS game. Surprisingly, OnePlus didn't use the Bullets branding for this product, which is simply called the "OnePlus Buds". That's somewhat puzzling seeing how the Bullets lineup has quite a few dedicated fans, but OnePlus was seemingly very keen to underline that it's a completely different product. The company's latest pair of wireless earbuds don't hang around your neck, but they do still pack a punchy bass. With the new Buds, OnePlus promises an elevated experience when paired with OnePlus smartphones. Outstanding...

OnePlus Nord 5G unveiled: 6.44" 90Hz display, SD765 and 48MP camera, €400 price tag

The OnePlus Nord 5G is what happens when the company applies the “Never Settle” mantra to a mid-range product. It transplanted the main 48MP camera from the flagship OnePlus 8, also the 90Hz Fluid AMOLED and Warp Charge 30T technologies all the while trying to address the ever-rising costs of flagships. OnePlus Nord 5G The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 765G chipset, perhaps the only clear indication that this isn’t a flagship product. That said, the 7nm chip is efficient and has enough performance in its ISP and AI cores to run the Nightscape algorithms. In short, it gets...

Samsung Life Unstoppable event scheduled for September 2

While we’re still two weeks away from its Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung has begun sending invites for its Life Unstoppable event which is scheduled for September 2. The event will be online only and is Samsung’s replacement for IFA Berlin as the tech giant will not participate at the trade show this year. The only description of the event is that it will be a 45 minute “virtual and dynamic journey” of Samsung’s newest products. Samsung usually brings a varied set of announcements for IFA including home appliances, TVs, audio systems alongside some midrange smartphones. Samsung will...

Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra goes through the FCC with mmWave support, S865+ chipset

The Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra passed through the FCC and confirmed some suspicions that the rumor mill had. The chipset is explicitly listed as Qualcomm SM8250 – that’s Snapdragon 865, likely the “plus” variant – and the modem is an X55. This enables not only sub-6 GHz 5G but also mmWave. The FCC tests were performed on the SM-N986U, the general US version of the phone, so the choice of Snapdragon isn’t surprising. What is surprising is the mmWave support, which is currently reserved for Verizon models (which end with a “V”). The FCC testers also had the new Samsung LED View Cover...

The Asus ROG Phone 3 is reveal nearly upon us (it’s scheduled for tomorrow) and just like the two models before it, this one will come with a variety of accessories meant to augment the phone. Also, the select, start and other auxiliary keys have moved to the “joy-cons” while in the 2019 edition they were on the additional grip. Kunai Case: Asur ROG Phone 3 model (left) • The old 2019...
