Google testing a new app called ‘Task Mate’ to crowdsource business information and voice recordings

As first reported by 9to5Google, a new app is being tested in a closed beta. The Google-made app is called “Task Mate” and it’s kind of like Google Opinion Rewards, but a bit more involved. Basically, Google Opinion rewards will passively ask question based on recent purchases, or the use of recent Google products like Gmail, Google Assistant, and YouTube. In exchange for answering these questions, you’re rewarded Google Play credit that can be used towards Play Store apps or subscriptions. Task mate takes it a step further and asks users to perform more involved tasks in exchange for a...

The Galaxy Note20 is 50% off at Google Fi for Black Friday, Note20 Ultra at $799.99

Generally speaking, people haven't reacted very amazingly to Samsung's $999 Galaxy Note20 (non-Ultra), judging its price in relation to all of its compromises compared to the Note20 Ultra. This is all quite understandable, so we're assuming Samsung hasn't sold a lot of these. Well, Google is coming to the rescue right now - or specifically, Google Fi, the search giant's carrier arm. For Black Friday, it's offering you a Note20 for just $499.99. That's 50% off, and at this price, the phone is clearly more enticing than if you had to pay the full normal amount. Samsung Galaxy...

The Surface Duo is Microsoft’s first foray into dual-screen Android phones and so far it’s only available in the US. The last time we heard about the device it got its first discount to $1,199, which is $200 off its initial retail price. Now, German blog WindowsArea is reporting that the Duo is poised to make its way to the German market sometime in Spring 2021. The information was confirmed by unnamed sources who also claim Microsoft’s dual-screen Android phone will make its way to more European markets by H2 2021. UK carriers BT and EE have reportedly reached deals with Microsoft to...

Sony says that variable refresh rate feature for PlayStation 5 is in the works

In a recently updated PS5 FAQ section, Sony has confirmed that the variable refresh rate feature isn't supported yet on its new Playstation 5 console, but it will be in the near future. This is rather strange because the console has HDMI 2.1, which supports the VRR by default. For instance, the Xbox Series X, Series S and One X all support VRR, which turns out to be a pretty cool feature not only for PC gamers but for console gamers as well. Especially since the new hardware can do 120fps at 1080p and 4K. Some of the games tend to suffer feom the occasional dip lf the framerate so VRR...

Oppo is holding off on building rollable phones commercially

The Oppo X 2021 rollable phone concept can expand its 6.7” display to 7.4” thanks to a rollable screen panel and a motor-powered sliding mechanism to unroll it. It’s an impressive tech demo and just that – the company has no short-term plans to build a mass market device with such a design. “Although there is no plan for its commercialization in the short term, it will serve as a guide for the transformation and evolution of future product form factors. Commercialization requires market research and business justification, and may take some time,” wrote Oppo to Android Authority. ...

Report: the Huawei P50 will use Kirin 9000 chips, Samsung and LG OLED displays

With the Mate 40 flagships out of the gate, Huawei is moving its attention to the P-series – despite US sanctions disrupting its supply line, the company is on track to launch the P50 phones in the first half of 2021. This means the P-series may keep to its usual March/April launch time frame (or stick close to it, anyway). The Elec reports that Samsung Display and LG Display are ready to supply OLED panels for the new models, citing people with direct knowledge of the matter. Samsung Display acquired a license to trade with Huawei back in October and it seems that LG did so as...

The Honor V40 will not use the Kirin 9000, Dimensity 1000+ the likely replacement

Huawei will sell the Honor division and this is more than just a legal shuffle – it will affect the end product too. Leakster Digital Chat Station writes that the Honor V40 series will not use the Kirin 9000. The Honor V30 and V30 Pro used the Kirin 990 chipset, HiSilicon’s top chip of 2019 (well, ‘chips’, really, as the Pro used the slightly more advanced 990 5G chip). If all was well, the V40s would have used HiSilicon’s 2020 flagship chipset. However, the company has trouble sourcing those chips as the US/China trade war has blocked TSMC from fabbing chips for Huawei. It did produce...

After the Galaxy S21 Ultra, that's the first projected 2021 device that is said to support an S Pen, further driving home the painful realization that Samsung will discontinue the Galaxy Note lineup in 2021. Samsung will reportedly be able to make the S Pen work on the flexible screen on the Galaxy Z Fold 3...
