alcatel Idol 4 Pro's European launch has been delayed

The Windows 10-powered alcatel Idol 4 Pro smartphone was all set to go on sale in Europe on July 26 (today). But that's no longer the case as the launch has been delayed. A quick look at Microsoft's Germany and France websites reveals the device will now be available there July 31 onwards. The launch has been pushed further back for those in the UK - the region's official Microsoft website currently says the phone will be available there August 7 onwards. There's currently no information on exactly why the European launch for the handset has been pushed back, but let's hope...

The LG G6 and a couple of Huawei smartphones are currently available at discounted rates in the United States. Specifically, Sprint has slashed the price of the G6 by half - zero-down, followed by $14.75 a month for 18 months. The Mate 9, on the other hand, has dropped to under $500 (it's going for as low as $479 currently on Amazon). For comparison, the device launched in the US back in January carrying a $599 price tag. An finally, the Honor 6X - which carried a launch price tag of $249 - is now officially available for $199. Available color options include silver and...

MS Paint to be removed in the next Windows 10 update

Microsoft published a list of applications and services that will be removed or deprecated in the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. One of the applications stated for deprecation is the 32 year old MS Paint, that has been part of every version of Windows ever made. After an overwhelming response from users on the internet, Microsoft announced in a blog post that the venerable drawing utility will be removed as part of default software suite but will be available as a download through the Windows Store. Microsoft instead wants users to use Paint 3D, which was introduced...

Hands-on: Moto Z2 Force

Motorola held a launch event this morning in New York City where it announced the Moto Z2 Force. Moto is really excited for the second iteration of its flagship device. Along with two new Moto Mods announced, the Moto Z2 builds on top of last year's Moto Z and Moto Z Force Droid. Gone is the the regular non-shatter resistant version of the Moto Z2, (unless you count the Moto Z2 Play). The Moto Z2 Force is slimmer and lighter than the Moto Z Force, but if you remember, the Moto Z Force Droid has a 3,500 mAh battery. As a result of keeping its profile slimmed down, the Moto Z2 Force comes...

T-Mobile and Sprint are already offering Buy One, Get One free deals for the Moto Z2 Force

We've already told you all about the newly unveiled Moto Z2 Force, including the fact that it's up for pre-order in the US and where to get it from. In fact, in that article we highlighted a special offer from Verizon that lets you save more than half of the device's full price if you purchase it using installments. But it turns out that Big Red isn't the only carrier that feels like offering a great deal for the Z2 Force from day one. T-Mobile and Sprint have decided to join the fun too. The magenta carrier is running a classic Buy One, Get One free (BOGO) promo for the phone for a...

Google says 11 smartphones will be Daydream VR enabled by the end of 2017

To say that Google's Daydream VR platform is still a niche endeavor would be a definite understatement. But that may be about to change, in a few months at least. Speaking during the earnings call for parent company Alphabet, Google CEO Sundar Pichai uttered a very interesting number: 11. That is apparently the number of handsets that will support Daydream VR by the end of this year. That seems like a big number compared to how the situation stands now, but let's do some counting, shall we? If we add up Google's Pixels, the initial Daydream supporters, with the Moto Z, ZTE Axon 7, the Asus...

Meizu Pro 7 Plus has its specs leaked too

Earlier today a new leak from China purportedly showed us a leaflet with the full specs of the upcoming Meizu Pro 7 printed on it. And now it's time for the Pro 7 Plus to receive the exact same treatment, as you can see from the leaked image below. The two devices will become official at an event tomorrow, so these very well may be official posters prepared by the Chinese company in advance of that. According to the leaked spec sheet, the Meizu Pro 7 Plus will have a 5.7-inch QHD display, and it will be powered by MediaTek's Helio X30 chipset. On the back will sit a secondary...

Verizon's Galaxy S8 and S8+ get Daydream VR support through new update

Verizon's Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are now in the process of receiving a new software update each. This will arrive in the next few days over-the-air, and after you install it your handset will be on software version G950USQU1AQG4 if you have the S8, and G955USQU1AQG4 if your phone is the S8+. The key new feature that these updates bring is support for Google's Daydream VR platform. Hopefully in this case you'll be able to use Daydream right away, unlike what happened with T-Mobile's S8 and S8+ earlier this month. The new release also gives you the ability to send animated GIFs...

Motorola outs three promo videos for the Moto Z2 Force

To top off its official unveiling of the Moto Z2 Force today, Motorola has uploaded three promo videos for the new device to its YouTube channel. Each of these ads has a different length, and the obvious purpose for all of them is to make the new flagship smartphone known to prospective customers. Let's start things off with a quick 15-second promo that aims to get one simple message across - you can drop this phone and its screen won't shatter. Next up, in roughly 50 seconds we are presented with a concise list of what Motorola considers to be the Z2 Force's most important selling...

Here are the pricing details for the Moto Z2 Force - pre-orders have started in the US

Earlier today Motorola finally made the Moto Z2 Force official, following many months of leaks upon leaks. And now the handset is already up for pre-order in the US. Unlike last year's Moto Z and Moto Z Force, the Z2 Force is being offered by all the big US carriers, the Verizon exclusivity is nowhere to be seen. What's more, Big Red even gave up on its traditional Droid branding for flagship Motorola smartphones, which means the Z2 Force is the Z2 Force no matter where you pick it up from. In name only, that is, because if you order straight from Motorola you'll still have to choose a...

Moto Z2 Force Edition and 360 Camera Moto Mod announced

Motorola has finally announced the Moto Z2 Force Edition. The phone is up for pre-order in the US starting today across all major carriers and will be available in Mexico, Brazil and other countries in Europe, Middle East and Africa later this year in summer. The phone will be available in Super Black and Fire Gold, along with a T-Mobile exclusive Lunar Grey. The Moto Z2 Force Edition features a 5.5-inch Quad HD POLED display with ShatterShield, which is a layer of shatter resistant coating on top. The phone also features reinforced 7000 series aluminum for added rigidity. On...

Mass production of Kirin 970 chips begins in September

Rumors about the new Kirin 970 chipset by Huawei's subsidiary HiSilicon are gaining speed. Latest reports reveal TSMC is starting mass production of the 10 nm SoC in September and will provide the chips in time for the Mate 10, anticipated to launch in October. The successor of the Kirin 960 will keep the Cortex A73 CPU architecture. An improvement is expected with the GPU, which is said to feature 12 cores. That way HiSilicon is aiming to put the 970 on par with the Exynos 8895 and the Snapdragon 835. The Mate 10 is going to be the first phone with the new chip and also be...

YI branded action and home surveillance cameras launched in India

YI, the Chinese imaging company backed by Xiaomi, has launched its range of action and home surveillance cameras in India. The action camera range includes two models, the conveniently named Action Camera and 4K Action Camera, which are different in exactly the way you imagine them to be. Both are available in a more expensive variant that includes a selfie stick and a Bluetooth remote. The 4K model also comes in a variant with a waterproof case. All variants are available in black and white. The surveillance cameras include two models, the standard Home Camera that...

Lenovo teasing a Killer Note, likely the K7 Note

Lenovo Mobile has been teasing a #KillerNote on its Indian Facebook account. The most recent post boasts about "ordinary performance" being a thing of the past. Earlier posts railed against covering up bad photo quality with filters. This phone, likely the Lenovo K7 Note, has low expectations to beat in terms of performance - the K6 Note has a Snapdragon 430. The rumor mill is filled with unreliable info - anything from Snapdragon 625 to 652. Or it could be a Helio X20, though perhaps that is expecting too much of the mid-rangy K-series. Anyway, there's a contest starting today -...

Official support for Fairphone 1 discontinued

The Fairphone 1 was launched way back in 2013. Specs-wise, it was a pretty standard Android smartphone, but what made it special was that the company behind it (Fairphone) claimed device longevity as one of its primary goals, along with use of conflict-free minerals in the production. Now, after nearly four years, Fairphone has announced that it has stopped supporting the device. "Practically speaking, this means that we will no longer sell spare parts for the Fairphone 1, and have stopped developing the software upgrade to Android 4.4," said the company's CEO in a recent blog...

HTC Summer Sunset Sale: HTC 10 and U Ultra get big discounts in the US

HTC has kicked off the Summer Sunset Sale with a couple of great discounts. We checked the various regional sites, this particular deal seems to be available only in the US. An HTC 10 is down to $400 (from $700). The HTC U Ultra is $500 (down from $750). Then there's the UA HealthBox for $220. You'll get a free gift if you buy any one of these three. Note that these are much better prices than the earlier sale, which asked $500 for the HTC 10 and $630 for the U Ultra. An HTC U11 is currently $650, though it was reduced to $600 recently. If you're just looking for a case, you can...

Nokia 2 spotted on Geekbench with Snapdragon 210 chipset

HMD relaunched Nokia in the mid-range and has been expanding down towards the entry level. Currently, the Nokia 3 is the most junior smartphone in the lineup, but a Nokia 2 has been sighted several times. Geekbench detected a Snapdragon 210 chipset (or 212, differences are negligible) with a single gigabyte of RAM - half as much as the 3 has. It does run Android 7.1 Nougat, so no compromise has been made on the software side. Storage was not detected, but we think 8GB is a good guess. Since we're making guesses, we'd say the price of the Nokia 2 will be €100 - right between the...

Alphabet reports record-breaking $26B revenue in Q2 2017

"Other bets" by Alphabet that include Nest, Fiber and other companies recorded an operating loss of $772 million. This is less than the $855 million back in Q2 2016. In a separate announcement, Alphabet announced its newest member of the...

Alleged Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) spotted in benchmark listing

A new Samsung smartphone has been spotted in a benchmark listing. The GFXBench listing reveals the device carries the model number of SM-A730x, with reports saying that it's the Galaxy A7 (2018). Now, that could well be true, given that the Galaxy A7 (2016) was SM-A710x and the Galaxy A7 (2017) is SM-A720x. In terms of specs, the listing reveals the handset is powered by an SoC with octa-core 2.1GHz CPU, and sports a Full HD display. RAM is 4GB, while internal memory is 32GB. All black BlackBerry KEYone leaks

The BlackBerry KEYone was released back in April this year, and comes in black color option. However, the device is not entirely black in color - sides and a portion on top are gray. But looks like an all black variant will be made available soon. The model (should be a pre-release unit) has been spotted on sale on a website. While nothing about the variant (including its existence) is yet official, rumors say it will be launched on August 8, and China will be the first market to get it. Meanwhile, the regular KEYone has received a price cut in France, where carrier Orange...
