Here's the Samsung Galaxy Note9 in Coral Blue and a look at its retail box

The Samsung Galaxy Note9 will launch in five color variants - Black, Silver, Lilac Purple, Brown and Coral Blue and this recent render shows what the latter will look like. The Coral Blue variant is a lighter shade of Blue than the Deep Sea Blue we've seen on the Galaxy Note8. Design-wise the render shows the same changes we've seen from other renders and leaks - with the repositioned fingerprint scanner under the camera module on the back. The front appears the same. Kirin 980 specs leaked, to have 2.8 GHz octa-core CPU

Last year Huawei introduced the Kirin 970 at IFA and it looks like this year's flagship chipset will also be revealed in Berlin. The Kirin 980 is nearing its launch with more leaked specs, including the CPU cluster. According to sources from China, the maximum clock speed will be 2.8 GHz for the top four Cortex-A77 cores. While they will do the performance job, there are four more Cortex-A55 for reliability. CPU Clock speed Core cluster Kirin 710 2.2 GHz + 1.8 GHz 4x Cortex A73 + 4x Cortex-A53 Kirin 980 2.8 GHz 4x...

Week 29 in review: Mi Max 3, Nokia X5, nova 3i, Gorilla Glass 6 are all official

It was a big week for phone announcements. Xiaomi took the wraps off the Mi Max 3 after a few weeks of intense teasing and it's pretty exciting - near-7-inch screen and 5,500mAh battery! In other Xiaomi news, the Mi A2 Lite went on sale prematurely. It's still unofficial at this point, but that will change next week. Nokia made the X5 official in China and started the global rollout of the Nokia X6 under the name Nokia 6.1 Plus. Xiaomi will finally start selling its Mi 8 Explorer edition on July 24 but before you get too excited, it's a China-only offer for now. Huawei announced...

Top 10 trending phones of week 29

It was another dramatic week in our Top 10 trending chart with the Oppo Find X retaking the top spot from the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. The third position is occupied by the newly unveiled Huawei nova 3i, which is the first phone to come with the company's new Kirin 710 chipset. The Samsung Galaxy J8 and J6 have been pushed down to fourth and sixth this week, split by the Nokia 6.1 Plus, which enters the chart in fifth place. The original Huawei nova 3 is still around, occupying third place, ahead of the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro. The latter is expected to make its global debut next week...

Weekly poll: where to go after the notch?

Pop-up cameras can usher in an era free of the notch - a design element that many hate, some don't mind and, perhaps, some even like. But where does smartphone design go from here? Back to the rectangular screen with the occasional stretching of the aspect ratio? That's one possibility or makers can just stick with the notch - judging by recent rumors, Apple will do exactly that. But we can try something more creative. The pop-up cameras are a cool solution that wows an audience. Depending on implementation, they can cause some inconvenience, though. Remember that a notch can hide more...

Sunday debate: Faster charging vs wider support

This Sunday Ro and Yordan are debating is the fast charging standard the way to go forward or should we stick to solutions which while not as fast have wider support - like Quick Charge by Qualcomm and USB Power Delivery. Yordan: Wider support trumps speed I'll preface this by saying that one of the main reasons I'm constantly seen with a Huawei device is the Super Charge tech. It is fast and reliable and really boosts the user experience. But it is limited to Huawei phones and this is why it has to go. As someone into tech, I am religiously following everything new that...

Weekend phone talk: Yordan

The first half of 2018 is behind us, and as we rush into summer it's time to reflect on what smartphone manufacturers released and what are we expecting from the second part of the year. The first issue was by Paul; now we hand the keyboard to Yordan. H1 2018 has been unimpressive, but I remain positive. First half recap In the world of leaks, rumors, and announcements there is hardly a new beginning when a calendar page turns. Back in January we already knew Samsung is preparing the Galaxy S9, Xiaomi will keep expanding to new countries, and Huawei will stay on its course...

AirBeamTV, launched Mirror to Windows PC, a new iPhone and iPad application for screen mirroring from iOS devices to Microsoft PCs negating the need to install a receiver application on the PC. We've oversimplified the above in order to convey how straightforward Mirror to Windows PC is in use but here's...

Counterclockwise: revisiting Motorola's iconic phones

Motorola is famous for making the first commercial cell phone - the DynaTAC. It also created the first ever flip phone, the Motorola StarTAC. The company has scored many more firsts in its 90 years of existence, enjoyed a golden age when it shaped the mobile phone market and eventually fell on hard times. The Timeport P7389 was the first phone with GPRS - that's the first modern mobile Internet standard (CSD was more akin to dial-up). The phone first connected to the net over the BT Cellnet in the UK, which was running hardware also built by Motorola (and Cisco). Motorola StarTAC...
