Last week, Lenovo sent out invites to the media for an event in India on September 5 for the launch of a new Note series smartphone, and now the company has confirmed that it will unveil the K10 Note at the event alongside the A6 Note. These smartphones will be joined by the Snapdragon 855-powered Z6 Pro which was announced back in April. The latest invite from Lenovo tells us that the K10 Note will come with a triple camera setup at the back accompanied by a fingerprint scanner, and it will be offered in two colors - Black and Green. Lenovo Z6 Pro, K10 Note, and A6 Note The...

OnePlus TV will get at least three years of software updates

The OnePlus TV is finally launching next month, in India first, after years of development and speculation. Over the past few days more and more information about it has trickled down, and now we get another piece of the puzzle. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has announced that the TV will get at least three years of Android TV software updates. It's the first time (that we know of) that any manufacturer of TVs using Android TV has publicly committed to an update support window like this, and that's definitely good to see. If you thought the situation with Android updates for phones (not made...

Samsung wants to release the Galaxy Fold in Korea on September 6

According to a new report from Samsung's home of South Korea, we might be closer to the actual availability in stores of the Galaxy Fold than you may think. So far the company has only officially confirmed that it's going to release the Fold at some point in September. Now though, sources inside the mobile industry have told news agency Yonhap that Samsung is actually in talks with the Korean carriers to make the Galaxy Fold available in the country on September 6. This is apparently a new development, as the company initially intended for the launch to happen later in the...

T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy J7 Star is now tasting Android 9 Pie with One UI

Another day, another Samsung smartphone gets the update to Android 9 Pie. This time around it's T-Mobile's Galaxy J7 Star on the receiving end of Google's latest OS (for a few more days), which comes alongside the Korean company's innovative new user experience dubbed One UI. If the name doesn't sound familiar, know that Galaxy J7 Star is the name under which T-Mobile chose to sell a phone that is otherwise better known as the Galaxy J7 (2018) in most parts of the world. The update arrives over-the-air as a 1.1GB download, which means you may be safest trying to grab it over Wi-Fi....

Oppo Reno Z in for review, unboxing and key features

Oppo's fairly new Reno series has a midrange member - the Reno Z which offers all the essential features from a phone in its price range and even some improvements compared to the more expensive Oppo Reno. The device recently made its way to our office and we got to unbox it and take a look at its key features. Starting with the design the Reno Z feels really similar to the vanilla Reno. In fact, the two devices are nearly identical as far as dimensions go with 6.4-inch AMOLED displays and a dual-layer glass build. What you do notice with the Reno Z though is the waterdrop notch...

Microsoft will release the HoloLens 2 in September

Microsoft unveiled the second version of its AR headset - the HoloLens 2 - at MWC in February earlier this year. Reuters reports that the headset is ready to go on sale in September at a price of $3,500. This buys you the HoloLens 2 itself. The Developer Edition will cost $99 a month and will pack some extra goodies like $500 in Azure credits, plus 3-month trials of Unity Pro and the PiXYZ plugin (which helps you view CAD-based models in AR). Clearly, the HoloLens 2 is still aimed at businesses. Anyway, the second generation product offers much wider field of view than the original...

Apple will finally let you repair your out-of-warranty iPhone at independent shops

Apple came out with an unexpected announcement that it will finally let independent repair shops fix iPhones that are out of warranty. It's all part of the Independent Repair Provider Program and it basically provides parts, tools and training to shops that want to work with genuine Apple hardware. For now, the program is available only in North America but it's about to expand in the future to other regions in Europe and Asia. But out of warranty repairs are limited mostly to breaks like the front or back glass panels, cracked camera lenses, etc. It's still a major win for customers...

Royole FlexPai, the first and only foldable phone, gets disassembled on video

The Royole FlexPai is the first (and so far only) flexible phone that's available for purchase. Zack from JerryRigEverything has one and in the video of his usual torture test we saw that, ironically, the foldable phone does not bend. Now it's time for part 2: the disassembly. The motherboard is in the "left" half of the phone (when viewed from the front), the battery is on the "right". A couple of ribbon cables connect the two halves. The most interesting part, however, is the hinge that allows the FlexPai to fold in half. It doesn't close very tightly (there's a huge gap left between...

Apple is unveiling the new iPhones on September 10

Innovation seems to be the word of the day (or rather, of the year) so we're excited to see how that will feature in the new iPhones. According to past rumors, leaks, and speculation, we're expecting to see three new smartphones, each a successor to last year's iPhone...

BBC: Google could not license Play Services for the Huawei Mate 30

The BBC reports that Google has confirmed that it could not license its Play Services for the Huawei Mate 30. However, Reuters claims that the company will press on with the September 18 announcement regardless. The US Department of Commerce is allowing companies to file for a license to trade with Huawei and over 130 companies already did. However, it seems that Google isn't among them. Analysts do not believe the Mate 30 phones can be successful without the familiar Google apps - the Play Store, Maps, YouTube and others (also note that many non-Google apps depend on functionality...
