WhatsApp time limit for deleting messages increases to over an hour

WhatsApp is one of a few messaging platforms that lets you delete a message after you've sent it. Skype is another one worth mentioning, though we're sure that far more people actually use WhatsApp. The messenger platform introduced the feature back in October of last year and allows someone to delete a message ".for everyone" within 7 minutes of the message being sent. Of course, the recipient(s) would not see the message, but would see a ‘message deleted' placeholder replace the deleted message. WhatsApp has quietly updated this time window of which you may delete a message after...

Instagram beta testing chronological timeline with handful of users

Instagram is beta testing a chronological timeline feature, according to some users. One of the users, Gunnar Freyr (@icelandic_explorer) posted a video in his Instagram story of scrolling through his now chronological timeline. A few other users have also reported noticing this although most people currently, including myself, do not have it yet. One of the changes that were made to post Facebook acquisition Instagram was a Facebook-like non-chronological timeline. This was powered by an algorithm that automatically brought up images from people you communicate with most or recently...

Huawei Y7 (2018) press renders leak

A couple of days ago Huawei made the Y9 (2018) smartphone official, but it looks like it's prepping even more devices for the affordable Y line this year. Coming at some point to complement the Y9 (2018) will be the Y7 (2018), the successor to the original Y7 from last year if the naming is to be taken seriously. The Huawei Y7 (2018) has now received the leaked press render treatment, and you can see it in all its glory below. There aren't any specs to go with the image, so we'll have to resort to stating the obvious. That is, the Y7 (2018) has an 18:9 touchscreen like the Y9...

Amazon adds voice and video calling on tablets through Alexa app

Amazon has announced that its voice and video calling service from Echo devices is coming to tablets. This includes Apple iPads, Android tablets and Amazon Fire tablets. Amazon Fire HD 10 To access this functionality, users will need to have the Amazon Alexa app installed. On the Fire HD 10, voice calling and messaging can be accessed simply by talking to Alexa. On the Fire 7, Fire HD 8 and older Fire tablets users will have to press the Home button to do the same. On other devices you will have to go to the Alexa app and do it manually. The devices will also support Drop In, a...

Huawei nova 3e goes official on March 20

Exactly one week before its world premiere of the P20 family in Paris, Huawei is holding a different event in China. This will take place on March 20 and on that occasion the Huawei nova 3e will be announced for the domestic market. That's been made obvious by the event invite Huawei has sent Chinese media. You can see the invite to the left, and it spells out the phone's name very clearly. The nova 3e has managed not to leak at all so far, which is intriguing. The lack of previous news about it might be due to the fact that it's just going to serve as the P20 Lite for the Chinese...

Honor View 10 now on pre-order in the US, shipments are later this month

It took a bit longer than expected - the Huawei Honor View 10 was supposed to launch in the US in early January. Better late than never, we suppose, the phone is now available on pre-order through HiHonor.com. It costs $500 and will ship out on March 23. Only the Navy Blue and Midnight Color options are available. Keep in mind that the Honor View 10 has a Kirin 970 chipset (Huawei's top of the line) and while it lacks the Leica branding of the Mate 10 phones, it has a capable 16MP + 20MP dual camera on the back. And it launches with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box (with EMUI 8.0),...

Asus Zenfone 5 Max flaunts Snapdragon 660 on Geekbench

Asus announced the Zenfone 5 series back at the Mobile World Congress - the range topping Zenfone 5z, the middle ground Zenfone 5 and the midrange Zenfone 5 Lite but there was no mention of a Zenfone 5 Max. Well, the phone is real, but not ready for announcement just yet. After it got its Wi-Fi certification it's now made an appearance on Geekbench, touting a Snapdragon 660 chipset with 4GB of RAM and Android 8.0 Oreo. The Geekbench scorecard doesn't reveal much meaningful information about the Zenfone 5 Max but we can at least assume it has an 19:9 display (with a notch). Via

Watch the Galaxy S9 duo get scratched, burnt and bent

If you've been waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S9 (and S9+) to pass JerryRigEverything's Durability test, it's time to grab the popcorn. And if you were fearing the worst you can breathe a sigh of relief. The duo of Galaxies will withstand any regular-day beating you might throw at it. As per usual, JerryRigEverything tested the phone's glass' scratch resistance - normal - its burn resistance - better than most OLEDs as the screen pixels recovered - and its bend resistance - the phones didn't bend. The stronger aluminum used in the Galaxy S9 and S9+ seemingly doesn't dramatically...

Samsung Galaxy J8+  hits Geekbench with Snapdragon 625

The Samsung Galaxy J8 is back at Geekbench, but this time with a different chipset. A couple of weeks ago we saw it with an Exynos 7870 chipset at its heart (that was the SM-J800FN version), now there's a Snapdragon 625 there (this is the SM-J805G version). This could be a "Plus" model, Galaxy J8+, with a slightly faster chipset and more memory. Both versions of the phone ran Android 8.0 Oreo. This J805G model has 4GB of RAM while the previous model we saw had 3GB. Both chipsets have octa-core Cortex-A53 processor but are clocked differently - 1.8GHz vs. 1.6GHz in favor of the Galaxy...

Samsung aims to ship 43 million Galaxy S9 and S9+ units this year

Samsung has reaffirmed its belief that the Galaxy S9 duo will outperform the S8 phones by announcing its plans to ship 43 million units this year - that's for Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ combined. Korean publication The Bell reports that Samsung has given this target to its component suppliers. For the first quarter, Samsung expects 12 million units to leave the factories, then 13 million, then 10 million and finally, 8 million in the last three months of 2018. Some adjustments may be made going forward. That's slightly higher than the 41 million Galaxy S8/S8+ units that the company...

Xiaomi Mi 7 takes the Geekbench test, matches other Snapdragon 845 phones

The Xiaomi Mi 7 (aka Dipper) is still roaming the wild benchmark fields - the latest sighting provides us with a Geekbench 4.1 score from the Snapdragon 845-powered phone. The unit had 6GB of RAM while a previous leak showed 8GB, which suggests there will be two memory tiers (the Mi 6 was available with 4GB and 6GB RAM). Both the single and multi-core scores are in line with what we've seen of Snapdragon 845 chipsets. A strong showing from what is rumored to be a $475 phone (which will put in direct competition with the Zenfone 5z). JRGRAPH_EXPANDABLE_VERSION = false;...

Samsung adds more devices to the Oreo update schedule

Samsung Canada published an Oreo update notice, which fills in many more devices than were listed on the Turkish site and there are some differences in the dates (that was expected with staged rollouts). Here are the phones scheduled for an Android 8.0 Oreo update and the planned release dates. Again, this is from Canada, so some of these have already been updated in other regions. March 18 Samsung Galaxy S8 • Samsung Galaxy S8+ March 28 Samsung Galaxy Note8 Spring/Summer 2018 Samsung Galaxy S7 • Samsung Galaxy S7 edge • Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017)...

Samsung Galaxy S9+ gets torn down by iFixit, found hard to repair

It's the Samsung Galaxy S9+'s time to get the iFixit disassembly treatment and for us to have a good look inside its beautiful glass and metal hull. The teardown starts off like you'd expect for a waterproof glass and metal phone - with a heatgun, opening pick and a lot of nervous prying. The battery is glued in place and required Adhesive Remover and a lot of know-how to remove. The camera is the more interesting component. Being the Galaxy S9+ it's the dual camera with the main variable aperture sensor and the second, tele sensor. The main camera's aperture is made up of two...

Honor 7C is official - 18:9 screen, Face Unlock and Portrait camera

The Honor 7C is now official and will start selling in China tomorrow. It starts at CNY 899 (€115) for the 3GB+32GB model and tops out at CNY 1,299 (€166) for the 4GB+64GB one. You are looking at a 5.99-inch 1440x720px display of 18:9 aspect with 2.5D curved glass on top. There's a Snapdragon 450 chipset (with the aforementioned 3GB or 4GB of RAM), a microSD card slot and dual-SIM as standard. The rear camera setup consists of a 13MP main unit and a depth-sensing 2MP secondary sensor. The front-facing camera is an 8MP shooter. Software is EMUI 8.0 on Android 8.0...

Exclusive: Here's another look at the Blue Huawei P20 Lite

A few days ago we gave you a first look of the Blue Huawei P20 Lite in the wild and today we have an even clearer photo to share. We can see the back in full view - the dual sensors on the back - a main 16MP cam and a second 2MP depth-sensing unit - the fingerprint scanner and the lovely liquid-like mirror finish of the panel. Exclusive look at the Huawei P20 Lite We also managed to scavenge a few other leaked photos and a hands-on video of the upcoming Huawei P20 Lite. The images below show the same back and the front with the notch-topped display. A few other leaked...
