Weekly poll results: the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE gets embraced by fans

Last week’s poll shows that the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE lives up to its name – it’s a fan favorite, at least the 5G version is. Even if you don’t care about the next-gen connectivity, this is the first Snapdragon-powered S-series phone in quite a while to arrive on the Old Continent. As for the 4G version of the Galaxy S20 FE, that has its defenders too – it’s the cheapest S20 model right now and the Exynos 990 is a solid performer. Still, the Snapdragon 865 powered phone got just over 51% of the vote while the Exynos model secured only about 15%, it’s clear which of the two is the preferred...

Flashback: the Nexus 4 cost less than half what the Pixel 5 costs, but it had a flagship chipset

The Nexus line may have had a rocky start, but it elicits love from fans in a way that the Pixels never quite managed. The trouble with the Pixels is that they are premium phones with premium prices whereas the Nexus line invented the “flagship killer” in all but name. That came about with the Nexus 4, which launched at a price of $300/€300/£280 (for the 8GB model, $350/€350 for 16GB). A year after launch you could have it for as little as $200, but even the launch price is less than half of what Google is asking for the new Pixel 5 unveiled earlier this week. It’s less than what the Pixel...

4K YouTube starts rolling out to some Apple TV 4K users

YouTube is rolling out 4K support for Apple TV 4K devices, at least according to some Reddit users. From screenshots uploaded by these users, 24/30fps videos seem to be available in full 4K. However, it seems 60fps videos only seem to be available up to 1440p. According to the YouTube stats, all of these videos are playing in Google's VP9 codec. Image by u/vulcan_on_earth One big omission here is HDR. Even when playing videos that were uploaded in HDR, YouTube is still serving the SDR version. When Apple TV 4K was first launched three years ago, it supported 4K HDR playback...

Google Calendar for Android and iOS gets Tasks integration

Google released the standalone Tasks app for Android and iOS back in April 2018, which is also integrated to Calendar on the web. But now Google has integrated Tasks for Calendar's Android and iOS apps as well, allowing you to create and view tasks from a mobile on Calendar. This integration should also eliminate the need to have the standalone Tasks app on your mobile since you can now create new tasks and view existing ones in the Calendar app. To add a new task in Calendar from the mobile apps, simply tap on the create button in the bottom-right corner, tap on 'Task', fill in the...

New iPad shows up on GeekBench, A14 chip has some powerful cores

Apple announced the iPad Air (2020) on September 15, but the tablet is yet to go on sale. What's probably a pre-production unit has made it to GeekBench, showing us the performance of the new A14 Bionic chipset, also to be featured in the upcoming iPhone. The A14's CPU delivers mighty single-core performance - the 1583pts score is around 18% higher than what we have for the A13 in the iPhone 11 Pro. Crucially, it's also way ahead of the preliminary figures we have rumored for next year's Snapdragon 875 (1159pts) and Exynos 1000 (1159pts). Alleged iPad Air (2020) on...

Unknown Oppo smartphone spotted on FCC with triple rear cameras

An unknown Oppo smartphone sporting model code CPH2185 has been spotted on FCC with a design similar to Realme's Narzo 20. It has a fingerprint reader on the back, keeping company to the three cameras placed inside a squircle-shaped module with an LED flash. On the right side of the phone's frame is the volume rocker and power key, and at the bottom is the USB port flanked by a speaker, microphone and 3.5mm headphone jack. FCC doesn't reveal the full specs of the CPH2185, but it does confirm that the smartphone runs ColorOS 7.2 and packs a battery having a rated capacity of 4,100...

OnePlus 8T pictured in a case listing

The OnePlus 8T is expected to be announced on October 14 and, predictably, the phone's been a regular at the rumor mill in the past weeks. We had a set of renders leaked recently, showing a relocated camera assembly, and now a case maker is giving us another look. After a quick debate, we're calling these photos as opposed to renders - it sure looks like the real thing. The phone is placed inside Case Mate's Soap Bubble case - so judging the exact color is out of the question. But the shots do give us a more detailed view of the camera system. Google drops Daydream VR support with Android 11

Google discontinued the Daydream View VR headset last October and now the Internet search giant has announced it has dropped support for the Daydream VR platform with Android 11, hence, it may not work with devices running Android 11 or later. While the platform will not receive any software updates, Google says some third-party VR apps may still be accessible through the Play Store. Google ending Daydream support is hardly a surprise, though, and we had it coming after Google discontinued the Daydream View headset last year, citing less developer adoption and decreasing usage over...
