First HTC U11 update starts rolling out

The HTC U11 has started receiving its very first update. Arriving as version 1.11.617.3, the update - according to official change-log posted by HTC on its website - brings along some system enhancements. Nothing else is included in the update. The handset was made official by the Taiwanese company last month, and it went on sale in the US late last week. As is usually the case with OTA roll outs, it might take sometime for the update to hit your unit. For more information, including how to install the update manually, head to the Source link below. HTC 10 is now just $240 at Sprint

It looks like Sprint has decided to clear its remaining stock of the HTC 10, now that its successor, the U11, has become available. The Taiwanese company's flagship smartphone from last year can now be purchased from the carrier for the insanely low amount of $240. That's $460 less than its launch price and you don't even have to be a Sprint customer to pick one up. You can just grab one by paying the full amount upfront, or if you want you can finance it through Sprint's installment plan, where you'll shell out $10 per month for it over two years. That's a great deal if you don't mind...

New OnePlus 5 render leaks alongside specs and price

We are now just one week away from the big unveiling of the OnePlus 5. A lot of details about the phone have already been outed, either through leaks or the Chinese company's own teasers. Today though we get the biggest leak so far. It pairs a new image, which looks like an official press render, with a pretty complete list of specs and the price of the handset. So let's get started. While this picture isn't the clearest what with all the shadows, it does confirm an earlier leak that showed only the top half of the phone, as well as a OnePlus teaser image which had it lying down on its...

Moto Z2 will be unveiled on June 27, invite reveals

Motorola has already made the Z2 Play official, but the successors for last year's Moto Z and Z Force have not yet received the same treatment. That's finally going to change towards the end of this month. The Lenovo-owned company has started sending out a "save the date" teaser image for an event on that day, and thankfully this reveals exactly what the June 27 unveiling will introduce: the Moto Z2. Motorola's invite and a crop of the relevant part showing the Z2 The woman in the picture is holding a Motorola smartphone with the instantly recognizable design of the Z series...

Google Pixel XL 2 to be manufactured by LG

HTC is the company that made the Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones from last year. And up until now we thought it would also be behind their followups from 2017. But it turns out that's only going to be half-true. While HTC is still probably making the successor to the original Pixel, the new Pixel XL 2 will be manufactured by LG. This has been revealed through a bug report inside the Android Issue Tracker. There's a bug entry in there regarding a problem with USB Power Delivery, made by an LG employee. A Googler replied to that by asking that the bug be closed and moved under Android...

Sprint goes after Verizon by offering free unlimited service for a year to those who switch

Today Sprint has launched an insane limited-time deal for customers of its main competitor. If you are currently with Verizon and switch to Sprint, you will receive one year of unlimited service for free. That's unlimited talk, text, and data (though the usual throttling limits from Sprint's unlimited plan apply here too). The first catch is that you have to bring your own device, this offer doesn't include a phone. So you need to check if your current smartphone works on Sprint. And obviously if you're entangled in a device installment scheme at Verizon, you'll have to pay that handset...

HTC U11 fails durability test

Hopefully you've already gone through our recently published HTC U11 review. If you have, then the next logical step would be to watch a durability testing video that will show you how well it fares in scratch, burn, and bend tests. Conveniently, JerryRigEverything has uploaded just such a video today, and it's embedded here for your viewing pleasure. The U11 starts off as expected - its Gorilla Glass protects the screen from scratches as much as it should. The sides of the handset are revealed to be made out of real metal, as is the lip around the main camera. It took only 8...

Oppo R11 preview: First look

Oppo unveiled the R11 and R11 Plus with a press event held in Shenzhen, China last week. These two phones are the latest additions to the popular R series and combine premium design and build quality, with excellent performance, innovative camera experience, and, of course, above average selfie photography.

Instagram archive now rolling out to everyone

Last month, Instagram started testing its Archive feature that let you hide your photos. Simply hit the Options button in the top right corner of your photo and hit the Archive button and it will be removed from your timeline but still available in your private folder. From there, you can choose to unarchive it whenever you want and it will be sent back to the same...

Qualcomm to change Snapdragon naming convention

Qualcomm is about to stop using the MSM designation for its chipsets and will switch to SDM. The Snapdragon 835, also known as MSM8998 will be the last SoC with the MSM in its model name. According to a Weibo leakster, the next-gen chipset from Qualcomm will be the Snapdragon 845 and will be dubbed SDM845. The following iterations will also have the SDMxxx tag. The Snapdragon 845 could arrive with the next LG flagship and the 2018 Galaxy S front runner. It is expected to be manufactured by TSMC, instead of Samsung and might have the latest X20 modem that boosts LTE download...

Galaxy Note8 to have a dual 13MP camera made by Samsung

The Samsung Galaxy Note8 will have dual-cameras on its back and known Weibo leakster @ice is claims the modules will be produced by Samsung Electro-Mechanics. The camera setup will feature two 13MP image sensors, which can work together to enhance the image quality. The Samsung division is allegedly working on three different dual camera modules, though the purpose of that is not clear. Perhaps one is for the Galaxy C10), but there's been no talk of a dual selfie cam. Previously, market analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (who has a solid track record) claimed the Galaxy Note8 will feature a 13MP...

Samsung Galaxy Note8 could be unveiled in August, ahead of IFA

Just like last year, the Samsung Galaxy Note8 is rumored to be unveiled in August, rather than September at IFA. In 2016, this gave the Note7 breathing room ahead of the impeding iPhones and this year the new Note has many bridges to rebuild - any headstart on the OLED-packing iPhone 8 will be of great help. Samsung delayed the launch of the Galaxy S8 to ensure there will be no repeats of the battery disaster that struck the Note7. But with issues cleared out, it seems that there will be no delays - not even waiting for the sub-screen fingerprint reader. The Snapdragon 836 should be...

LeEco Le Max leaks in a set of live pictures

LeEco's next flagship, the Le Max 3 is due for announcement soon and we just got our best look at it courtesy of a bunch of photos shared by SlashLeaks. The photos show a design we've been familiar with already and one that looks close to the Le Max 2 from 2016. There's a large screen on the front (rumored to be 5.7") with nonexistent side bezels. There's a dual-camera and fingerprint scanner on the back. LeEco Le Max 3 The images reveal the phone has 128GB of storage and 6GB of RAM although there will be a 64GB model too and there's talk of a model with 8GB of RAM too....

Apple granted patent for fingerprint reader on the power key

With the iPhone 8 set to remove the hardware Home button, where is Touch ID to go? The power button, perhaps. Today, Apple was granted a cache of 68 patents, which hint at the possible new locations for the fingerprint reader. The Power button patent was filed in Q2 2015, while the Xperia Z5 came out in early Q4 that year - the first Sony phone to put a fingerprint reader on the Power button. Sony already disables this functionality in the US, anyway, which reduces the chances of a patent dispute with Cupertino. Apple patent drawings of possible new locations for Touch...

Xiaomi mid-year sale: Mi 6 for $400, Mi 5 for $222 and other deals

With talk of OnePlus raising the prices, maybe you should consider a Xiaomi Mi 6. Especially now that it's discounted to $400! You'll need to buy it from GearBest and enter the coupon code MiK4G. The Mi 6 is not available on Mi.com so you probably can't avoid a grey import anyway. Xiaomi Mi 6 • Xiaomi Mi 5 If you're fine with the older model, the Xiaomi Mi 5 (note: not the 5s) will run you $222. That's for the international version with 3GB RAM and 64GB storage. This is again from GearBest. In fact, GearBest is helping Xiaomi run its mid-year sale, with other interesting...

Refurbished Galaxy Note7 passes the FCC, hints at European launch

We know the refurbished Galaxy Note7 is inching closer after an FCC certification last month. Now another variant of the reborn device gets approved by the FCC, and this time the certified device could be the European version. The listing includes two model numbers of the alleged Galaxy Note7R (also dubbed Galaxy Note FE) - SM-N935F and SM-N935FD. Normally Samsung uses F versions for EMEA devices, hinting the device might reach European shores. Looking back, the European Galaxy S8 model number is SM-G950F, the Global Galaxy S7 goes by the SM-G930F model number, and the original...

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active appears on Geekbench

The device with the model number SM-G892A got 1842 in single-core and 6394 in the multi-core tests. According to the listing, the Samsung device will run the Snapdragon 835 with Android Nougat 7.0. Compared to other phones with the latest Qualcomm SoC, the Galaxy S8 Active is behind the Galaxy S8 and the Xiaomi Mi 6, on par with HTC U11 and the Galaxy S8+ with Snapdragon 835, and ahead of the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. Differences...

Android Pay coming to South Korea in August

According to a new report from South Korea, Google will launch its mobile payments service Android Pay in the country in August this year. The launch, report notes, was set for last month, but got delayed due to issues "related to the application of security token technology." Samsung Pay is already available in the Asian country, and LG recently launched its own mobile payments service there. Android Pay recently launched in Canada, and around a week prior to that, the service arrived in Russia as well. Last month, the Mountain View, California-based company said Android Pay will...

Huawei Honor 9 crosses 350,000 registrations in a day

Just a day after it was unveiled, the Huawei Honor 9 has already received more that 350,000 registrations. What's worth mentioning here is that this figure is for a single retailer (JD.com) - the device will also be available through Vmall and six other Chinese retailers - so the actual number is likely much higher. Keep in mind that number of registrations is just an indication of the level of interest. As no money changes hands in this process, you shouldn't confuse registrations with pre-orders. The device is priced at CNY 2,700 ($400/€355) for the 64GB model and CNY 3,000...
