Hot take: iOS 14

Yesterday, Apple held its annual World Wide Developer Conference, where it announced new versions of all its major operating systems. Chief among these was the iOS 14 announcement, where Apple discussed a ton of new features that are going to find their way onto millions of iPhones come September. After having watched the keynote and going through everything new in this update, it's hard not to think of iOS 14 as one of the most influential updates that the platform has received in recent years and one that will matter to a lot of people going forward, especially those on the...

vivo X50 Pro with gimbal OIS arrives in global markets next month

At the beginning of this month, vivo unveiled its latest smartphone innovation: a gimbal optical image stabilization system, which the vivo X50 Pro uses for its main camera sensor instead of a traditional OIS system. The X50 Pro was joined in the spotlight by the vanilla X50 and the X50 Pro+ (although confusingly the latter drops the gimbal-like stabilization despite its name implying it's a step up in all areas compared to the Pro). That announcement was in China, for the Chinese market, but if you were patiently waiting to hear about a global release, here's some good news for you....

Galaxy M51 will only make it to India in September

Fans of Samsung's Galaxy M series in India will unfortunately have to wait until September to see what's shaping up to be the most powerful device to ever appear with M branding - namely the Galaxy M51. This comes from a new report supposedly based on info from industry sources. The launch in the subcontinent has been delayed to September because of production issues at Samsung's factories. The M51 may surface elsewhere before September, although that's not very likely, seeing as how the M series devices are usually either exclusive to India or launch there first. The handset is...

New iOS 14 feature shows just how many apps are snooping on your clipboard

A new feature in iOS 14 developer beta 1 has some users taken by surprise. The feature alerts the user every time an app access the clipboard for whatever reason, and let's just say there are way too many apps today that are accessing your clipboard for seemingly no reason at all. If you are running iOS 14 developer beta 1 and copy an item to your clipboard then the OS will show a pop-up notification at the top of the screen informing you whenever an app has accessed the data in your clipboard. The video below demonstrates this in action. Make sure you watch it in fullscreen so you see the...

Realme C11 gets benchmarked and unboxed before its official announcement

The Realme C11 (model name RMX2185) ran Geekbench, which gives us an opportunity to learn more about the MediaTek Helio G35 chipset. Also, someone from the Realfans Vietnam Facebook group posted an unboxing of the new gaming-oriented phone. Geekbench reports the motherboard as "oppo6765", which isn't very helpful. However, comparing it to the RMX2027, aka Realme C3 with the Helio G70 chipset, makes it clear that the G35 won't be fastest chip around. JRGRAPH_EXPANDABLE_VERSION = false; GeekBench 4.4 (single-core) Higher is better Realme C3 1812 Realme C11 ...

iOS 14 beta users report seeing 4K option in the YouTube app

Multiple iPhone users running the first developer beta of iOS 14 are reporting that they are now seeing their YouTube video resolution going all the way up to 2160p or 4K. YouTube resolution has been limited to all iOS and iPadOS devices due to a codec compatibility issue. YouTube encodes its videos in two codecs, AVC1 (h.264) or Google's own VP9. However, while VP9 encoded videos are available in all resolutions and frame rate options, AVC1 encoded videos are only available up to 1080p60 resolution. First: MKBHD video, maxed out at 1080p, AVC1Second: 4K60 HDR video, maxed out at...

The new firmware bears the RMX1801EX_11.F.07 build number and Realme recommends those looking to update to the new version to get their phone on version RMX1801EX_11_C.31 before starting the update procedure. In terms of features, users can expect all the...

Samsung Pay Card is in the works in partnership with Curve

Samsung and Curve announced a partnership that will bring the Samsung Pay Card later this year. If you haven't heard of Curve, it's a fintech company that created the Curve Card, which pretends to be a normal Mastercard debit card but is more of an all-in-one solution. You don't keep money in a Curve account, instead you add cards from other banks and decide which card you'd like to spend from each time using an app on your phone. The Curve Card is like a gateway to various bank (and loyalty) cards. The reason this is needed is that it's a shortcut for Samsung - instead of partnering...

Oppo Reno3 Pro 5G (Find X2 Neo) in for review

Oppo has brought its Reno3 Pro 5G smartphone outside China - it hit Western Europe as the Find X2 Neo, while the Eastern part of the company will get it under its original name. Also you shouldn't confuse the phone with the non-5G Reno3 Pro that we already reviewed - this one has an AMOLED screen with curved sides and a single punch hole for the selfie camera. When you take the Midnight Black Reno3 Pro 5G out of the box, it feels nicely thin and light, but in the same time feels sturdy and reliable. Oppo ships the Reno3 Pro 5G with a 30W fast charger in the box - it is the...

The new phone will have 720p display and an outdated chipset with just 1GB of RAM. The chipset is MT6739WW - a rather rare platform MediaTek deemed unworthy of a Helio moniker.
