Oppo midranger with UD scanner arriving in India

Oppo has just announced the "latest tech at an incredible price" will arrive on Flipkart. Apparently, the company is launching a midranger with an under-display fingerprint scanner in India, and it is likely the already announced Oppo K1 or Oppo R15x. Teaser by Oppo on Flipkart The teaser does not say much and we can only speculate at this point. Oppo has only five smartphones with the fingerprint technology and given the R17 and R17 Pro are already available at online retailers, we are left with the K1 and R15x, which are practically the same but with different memory options -...

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 in for review

Xiaomi's Redmi Note 7 has proven its popularity with the first few flash sales selling out quickly in China. Not only that, but Xiaomi has put out a bunch of videos that boast about the phone's durability. It was seen smashing walnuts in slow motion, getting kicked down the stairs, and more recently, it cracked a watermelon right down the center. We've got the Redmi Note 7 in the office and we're excited to thoroughly test it for you guys. We want to see if features like the 48MP camera, large 4,000 mAh battery, and large 6.3-inch FHD+ display will make this phone worth its really good...

Nokia 9 PureView to come with 18W fast charger, passes through China's 3C

Next month, HMD will take the stage in Barcelona during the MWC where the company will announce a new Nokia device. We're all hoping that it will be the long-awaited five-camera Nokia 9 PureView. The device has been certified through the Chinese 3C and although this doesn't reveal any specifics about the device itself, we can see that the purported device will come with an 18W quick charger in the box. The adapter itself is rated for 5V @ 3A, 9V @ 2A, or 12V @ 1.5A. Based on these ratings, it looks like the adapter can support both Qualcomm's Quick Charge and possibly USB-Power Deliver...

The update to Android 9 Pie for Samsung's Galaxy S9 and S9+ has been out in some regions for a while now, and today it's making its official debut in the US. While units sold unlocked, as well as those purchased from the 'big four' carriers are still left waiting, hopefully they will be getting it within the next few days or weeks. In the meantime, if you bought your S9 or S9+ from Comcast's Xfinity Mobile network, you're in for a treat, as the updates are now rolling out for these handsets. If you haven't yet received the notification, you can manually check for the new release by...

Brazilian Telecom Agency certifies Galaxy S10 variants and battery sizes

February is just around the corner and we're still trying to put together all the rumors surrounding the three supposed Galaxy S10 variants. Today, some new information first discovered by Nashville Chatter reveals that Anatel, Brazil's National telecom agency, certified three devices by their model names and their battery sizes. The devices in question are labeled EB-BG970ABU, EB-BG973ABU, and EB-BG975ABU. The more important part of these model numbers are the middle four letters, which denote the three alleged Galaxy S10 variants. Each variant will have 3,000 mAh, 3,300 mAh, and 4,000...

Android 9 Pie rolling out globally for the Asus Zenfone 5z

Asus has started rolling out the Android 9 Pie update for the Zenfone 5z. The update is being rolled out over the air in batches, so not all users will get the update immediately. It's also not yet available for download on Asus' website to flash manually, so you will have to wait a bit longer for that. For now, you can just keep mashing the check update button repeatedly on your phone over the next several days till you get the update. As for changes, there are no specific details given besides what you can otherwise expect from Android 9 Pie itself. Thanks Erick, for sending...

Redmi Note 7 Pro to arrive with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage

The Redmi Note 7 arrived earlier this month with a 48 MP camera with a Samsung ISOCELL sensor. Rumors suggested another edition, this time with the Sony IMX586 sensor, is on its way, and the phone will be called Redmi Note 7 Pro. Today, another hint about the upcoming device popped up online. Lu Weibing, Redmi CEO, asked fans what do they want from the Redmi Note 7 Pro, and one fan said: "Omit the 3/32 GB version, go straight for 6/64 GB or 6/128 GB". Of all the replies, this exact one was reposted later by Lei Jun, Xiaomi CEO, suggesting that it might be onto something. The...

Huawei Mate 20 Pro's AI finishes a symphony from two centuries ago

Schubert wrote two movements of his Symphony No. 8 back in 1822, but left it unfinished. Huawei has decided that 197 years of waiting is long enough and has tapped into the AI powers of the Mate 20 Pro to deliver the final two movements. The dual NPU of the phone was used to analyze the timbre, pitch and meter of the existing movements in order to generate a melody for the next two. That melody was then used by Emmy award-winning composer Lucas Cantor to arrange an orchestral score. The finished symphony will be performed live at Cadogan Hall in London on February 4. Until then, here's...

Android Q will bring support for Face ID, built-in screen recorder, WPA3

We've learned some fresh details about Android's next version thanks to some APK tinkering by 9to5Google. First off is the obvious - Android Q will indeed be numbered Android 10, just like Android P was 9 and O was 8. Android Q will also bring native support for more elaborate facial recognition, likely to natively accommodate sensors like the iPhone XS' infrared camera, dot projector and flood illuminators. The facial recognition setup menu will be similar to that of the fingerprint scanner and will be separate from the current trusted face menu. Android Q will also gain native screen...

DxOmark tests Pocophone F1, its camera matches the iPhone 8

The Pocophone F1 isn't afraid to challenge flagships and the latest battle is over camera quality. Based on the DxOMark score, it's as good as the iPhone 8 - a phone that costs twice as much (at least). The still camera delivers pleasing colors and accurate exposure along with a fast and accurate autofocus. It got a score of 91. That could have been higher if the second camera did better - bokeh rendering was poor and it offers no assistance in the dark or when zooming. And the main camera does need help in the dark, despite the excellent flash. The video camera once again nails it...

Pixel 3 Lite XL does Geekbench again, brings only 4GB of RAM this time

The Pixel 3 Lite XL surprised us the last time it visited Geekbench - it had 6GB of RAM, which is a something no other Google phone has. But does it? There's a new result from a XL Lite and it only shows 4GB of RAM. Google is not one to offer different RAM capacities. In fact, all Pixel phones have had 4GB of RAM and that's that. The search giant barely bothers to offers a choice of two storage levels. We know this is a "Lite" version rather than a variant of the regular Pixel 3 XL because of the code name - Bonito and Sargo are the upcoming mid-range offerings from...

We already know most of its specifications and the photos bellow align nicely with the previously seen official images. The Moto G7 Plus has a 6.24-inch 1080x2270px IPS LCD interrupted only by the 8MP selfie camera, embedded into a waterdrop-style notch. Moto G7 Plus On the rear there's a fingerprint scanner, set into the circular Motorola logo, and a dual camera made up of a 16MP f/1.7...

Bluetooth 5.1 comes to boost indoor navigation, tracker tags

Indoor navigation and tracker tags will become much better in the near future thanks to the direction finding feature of Bluetooth 5.1. Essentially, it provides a way to tell the direction from which a Bluetooth connection is coming. Currently, Bluetooth can only estimate distance (based on signal strength). With v5.1 it will have two ways to sense the direction by using multiple antennas (either on the phone or on the transmitter). So, next time you're looking for your keys that have a Bluetooth tracker on them, you'll get an arrow pointing you the right way, not just a "hot/cold"...

Major security issue found in Group FaceTime causing Apple to take feature offline for now

A major security loophole surface today within Apple's FaceTime feature. This allowed users to snoop in on people before they picked up the call. With this bug, users could call their FaceTime contacts and receive audio from them before the person answered the call without the receiving party knowing anything about this. The bug worked in a very specific way so it's not on every single call you make or receive, but it was easy enough to make it happen. You first had to call one of your contacts on FaceTime. Then, you had to create a Group FaceTime call by adding yourself as a third...

vivo V15 Pro with pop-up camera arriving on February 20

Since the event is taking place we are looking at a new vivo V phone, likely the vivo V15. vivo V15 Pro case Given the selfie camera will be on a pop-up mechanism, we expect the front to be completely bezel-less in the sense...

The Apple App Store's developers payout exceeds $120B

Apple's App Store is doing quite well and by extension its developers are doing well too. Since its establishment in 2008 the App Store has generated more than $120B in developer earnings - that's without Apple's own 30% cut of the revenues. The App Store is growing faster than ever, generating more than $30B in developer earnings in the last 12 months alone. The revenue figures for developers' earnings include downloads, in-app purchases and subscriptions, meaning some developers might earn even more from in-app ads. Source

Samsung Galaxy S10+ poses for the camera once again

A full frontal photo of the Samsung Galaxy S10+ just appeared on Weibo further confirming the dual front-facing cameras in the upper right corner. The phone's super skinny bezels were also revealed. The Galaxy S10+ from the front In addition, the icons on the top look aligned with the camera hole with plenty of empty space above them. As our math showed turns out this is more efficient arrangement than a bezel though the aesthetics of it are a different question. In any case, we need to use the handset for a while before we make any assessments regarding usability but we can say...
