Google Pixel sales more than doubled in Q2 thanks to Pixel 3a

On Wednesday, Google has released its Q2 earnings report which overviews the company's bottom lines and breaks down where the company is making money. In previous reports, actual Google Pixel figures are usually combined in the "Other revenues" category, this making it difficult to gauge how well Google's hardware is selling. Following the release of the Pixel 3a, Google felt it necessary to explicitly point out that its Pixel device sales have increased by over two times, year over year, thanks to a couple of factors. The biggest factor is the launch of a significantly cheaper Google...

It's official: Apple buys Intel's smartphone modem business for $1 billion

For a long time Apple has been looking to lessen its dependence on Qualcomm for smartphone modems. For a few years it used Intel parts in its handsets alongside Qualcomm's, but after the settlement between Apple and Qualcomm a few months ago, Intel was left out, being forced to exit the nascent 5G modem business with no other customers lined up. Now Apple has gone ahead and acquired Intel's smartphone modem business, as previously rumored. Apple will pay $1 billion for the transaction, expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year. Approximately 2,200 Intel employees working on...

UK carriers will sell the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G

In a press release posted by Huawei today, the phone maker confirms three mobile operators in the United Kingdom will carry one of Huawei's first 5G smartphones - the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G. Three, Sky Mobile, and Carphone Warehouse have all confirmed that they will be selling the Mate 20 X 5G "in the coming weeks". Despite the United States' ban on Huawei equipment, UK operators are still set on supporting Huawei devices. Seeing as Huawei already has a strong presence in this market, it is no surprise that the UK welcomes 5G devices from Huawei. In fact, all UK 5G operators depend on...

O2 UK switches on 5G in six cities in October

In the UK, Vodafone and EE have already launched limited 5G service in a few cities, and Three is going to join in the fun next month. Up until now O2 was the only operator that stayed mum on its 5G rollout plans, but not anymore. O2's initial 5G deployment will reach six UK cities starting in October. That timeline may be a disappointment to its customers, given how much time its competitors would by then have had to market 5G left and right. The cities in the first wave are going to be Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London, Slough, and Leeds, and this selection shall apparently...

Nokia 9 PureView: will it bend?

The Nokia 9 PureView is still unique in the mobile world because of its seven cameras. And today it was the latest smartphone to be put through the traditional durability test by Zack from JerryRigEverything. So if you like seeing handsets get hurt, on video, sit back and enjoy this ride. If for some reason you aren't able to watch right now, here's the skinny. The scratch test's results are nothing out of the ordinary: the phone's glass scratches at a level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, with deeper grooves showing up at level 7, just like they should considering this is glass. The...

T-Mobile wants nothing to do with the Galaxy Fold

After many months of uncertainty, Samsung has finally decided to issue a still vague, but not as vague as before timeline for the release of the Galaxy Fold: September. So you may be anxiously counting the days (give or take 29), and wondering whether your favorite US carrier will offer the device. If that company happens to be T-Mobile, though, the answer is a resounding "no". The magenta carrier apparently wants nothing to do with the Galaxy Fold, even though Samsung is pinky swearing that it's fixed all of the issues that caused its massive delay in release. A T-Mobile...

Sony launches RX100 VII with new sensor and faster performance

Sony has announced the seventh generation of its successful RX100 camera. Called the RX100 VII, the new model is all about speed, with faster shooting modes and improved autofocus performance. The two of the main new features on the RX100 VII are the new 1"-type stacked 20.1 MP Exmor RS CMOS image sensor and the latest generation BIONZ X image processor. Borrowing from the company's flagship A9 camera, the RX100 VII can now shoot in a whopping 20fps with AF/AE tracking. It can also do this without viewfinder blackout so your view of the action isn't cut off while the camera is...

Here are all the Samsung Galaxy Fold design changes

Soon after the announcement of the return of Galaxy Fold in September, we are getting a detailed breakdown of the structural changes introduced to the flexible phone. First and foremost, the protective layer of the flexible screen panel has been extended to cover the whole screen panel and tuck in the bezels. That way nobody will take it for a screen protector and peel it off. Secondly, the top and the bottom of the hinge are strengthened with some protection caps and additional metal layers have been added under the display to make the whole structure more rigid. The gap...

Apple forecasts iPhone 11 to sell as good as the iPhone XS did

Apple's suppliers in China are reportedly gearing up for a 75 million initial production run of the iPhone 11 family. That number is exactly the same as the one given to the company's partners in the summer of 2018. Bloomberg's sources say that Foxconn has increased its workforce's salaries by 10% to ensure there are enough workers to meet Apple's demands. Keep in mind that the 75 million order isn't final. It's a target set for September, October and a small part of November and it can be adjusted after that depending on how the sales are going. This would suggest that Apple...

Samsung Galaxy Book S incoming with Snapdragon 855 and Windows 10

First, there was a mysterious Samsung device on Geekbench running Windows with an octa-core CPU, which judging by the 2.84GHz clock was the Snapdragon 855, then there's the Bluetooth SIG certification and now Evan Blass contributes to the story with a confirmation that a Galaxy Book S is in the works. As you can imagine, the Geekbench listing and the Bluetooth certification sheet don't reveal much. What we can gather from this is the model number SM-W767, which suggests that it's a Galaxy Book 2 successor and that it supports Bluetooth 5.0. It's also upgrading from 4GB of RAM to 8GB of...

Huawei Mate X spotted in hands of Huawei CEO

Back in March after the Huawei P30 series unveiling, we got the chance to take part in a group interview with Huawei Consumer Business CEO - Richard Yu. There, he detailed that the Mate X was his primary device and served him perfectly for work-related scenarios like reading through charts and graphs and browsing the web. Since then Huawei has decided to delay the launch of its first foldable phone to avoid potential hardware failures like Samsung's Galaxy Fold. While we wait for the market release, Chinese media members managed to catch Yu with his very own Huawei Mate X at Shenzhen...

nubia Z20 poses for the camera with a notch-less display

ZTE sub-brand nubia will unveil the Z20 on August 8. The company hasn't shared much about the smartphone beyond some camera samples. Luckily a live image just arrived to fill in some details. It's not the best quality and doesn't show too much, but still tells us that the smartphone will boast a notch-less display. The smartphone is covered with a protective case, but even so we can see very skinny top and bottom bezels and virtually non-exsitant side bezels. We can also see that this alleged Z20 has a curved display. Alleged nubia Z20 The phone doesn't have a selfie camera...

Nokia 8.2 to arrive with 32MP pop-up camera and Android Q

Nokia 8.2 is likely still a couple of months away, but we already have its first specs. According to a new tweet by a leakster with a decent track record, the new smartphone will have a pop-up camera and Android Q out of the box. The elevating mechanism will have a 32MP sensor - likely the Samsung GD1 sensor that outputs images in 8 MP with Tetracell (Quad-bayer) pixel-binning technology. The rumor also stated the phone will come out with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. You might think that is not much and other flagships have it better, but actually no Nokia smartphone was ever...

vivo NEX 3 screen glass panel leaks, shows another take at fullscreen phone

After yesterday's vivo NEX 3 charger leak, today we have the glass panel to look at and it comes from a fairly reputable source. According to Ice Universe's tweet, the phone will be called vivo NEX 3 instead of NEX 2. We guess that's because it's the third phone in the lineup after the vivo NEX Dual Display. As you can see from the image, the curvature is quite pronounced and it's probably one of the biggest curves on a screen so far. We are probably looking at the next iteration of a full screen phone as the extreme curves mean there will be almost no visible side...

Huawei Mate 30 Pro to keep the wide notch

Smartphone companies today will go to any length to remove the infamous notch from the screen - we've seen sliders, pop-up cameras rotating units. Yet Huawei is seemingly planning to retain the wide notch on the Pro variant of the Mate 30, according to latest leaked screen protectors and shatter-proof glasses. The front panel of the Mate 30 Pro reveals no less than five holes in the notch. One is definitely for the selfie camera; another is for the proximity sensor, there is a hole for the speaker too. Rumors are the Mate 30 Pro will bring ToF for face unlock and some AR/VR...

Design-wise the Note10+ 5G looks identical to the regular Note10+ with the new Infinity-O display and its centered punch hole camera. The ad details that those who pre-order the Galaxy...
