Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 8cx chipset for Windows 10

At the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii, Qualcomm has taken the wraps off its latest chipset intended for Windows 10 computers - the Snapdragon 8cx. This is the successor to the Snapdragon 850, but it's a different beast altogether. Whereas the 850 was just a modified Snapdragon 845, which is intended for mobile devices, the 8cx is the company's first of a kind SoC built specifically for Windows 10 PCs from the ground up. It's made on a 7nm process and should be in shipping products around the third quarter of next year. The company says it will pack twice the performance of the...

DxOMark: The iPhone XR is unrivaled among single-camera phones

In its latest review, DxOMark examined the iPhone XR camera. It scored 103 points for stills and 96 points for video, adding up to a 101 point overall score. This ranks it as the best single-camera smartphone so far, but we still have to wait for the Pixel 3/3 XL review to come out. Despite sporting just one camera, the iPhone XR did well with its edge detection in portrait mode. Yet the lack of a telephoto lens meant no proper zoom. The camera was praised for its excellent exposure in all lighting conditions, wide dynamic range and perfect balance between noise suppression and detail...

Here's how you switch between the front and rear screen on the vivo NEX 2

By now we know that vivo's next NEX flagship, the vivo NEX 2, will have two screens - a large bezel-free 6.59-incher on the front and a 5.5" unit on the rear. What we now know is how vivo engineers thought out the process of toggling between the two and it doesn't involve any mechanics whatsoever. All it takes is a three-finger swipe on the active screen (whether front or back) to activate the opposite one. The vivo NEX 2 is still quite new in the the rumor mill but we've already seen it in the wild twice. We know all the phone's cameras will be above the rear screen but we can...

Apple enables electrocardiogram on Watch Series 4 with watchOS 5.1.2

When Apple announced the Watch Series 4 in September a big focus was placed on the smartwatch' ability to perform an electrocardiogram. But the feature was unavailable at launch. Now, Apple is activating it in the US through watchOS update 5.1.2. The update adds the ECG app to Watch Series 4 devices in the States (where the ECG is currently only available) and also unlocks irregular heart rate warnings on all Apple Watch from Series 1 through to Series 4. The Apple Watch will passively read your heart rate in the background and will warn you if it spots a suspicious pattern. As...

Samsung Galaxy S10 pictured with two cameras, S855-powered S10+ benchmarked

The revised renders of the Galaxy S10+ showed a quad camera on the back. Now the Samsung Galaxy S10 design has come to light and it has two rear cameras. Different camera setups were used to differentiate the Galaxy S9 duo this year. But next year there will be no less than three Galaxy S flagships. The S10+ should be the top model with four cameras and a large curved screen. Then there will be two models with a 5.8" screen - one curved and one flat (the base model). So, which one is the one in the image? We guess it's the middle model, the one with a curved screen and an in-display...

Snapdragon 6150 appears in Geekbench, Mediatek shows off M70 5G modem

A Snapdragon SM6150 chipset has posted a score to the Geekbench database. It features an octa-core processor and will likely launch as a 600-series chip. Geekbench doesn't say much about the CPU cores, other than one clock speed - 1.8GHz. That's likely for the little cores and doesn't account for boost, so it's not much to go on. But the score is. The single core performance is defined by one of the big cores and it looks like a match for Snapdragon 845's Kryo 385 Gold cores (at 2.8GHz). The multi-core performance is closer to that of Snapdragon 710, meaning it's likely a 2+6 split...

Huawei is facing trouble across the globe after Australia, New Zealand and the US banned the use of Huawei equipment for the deployment of 5G networks and the US government eveb reached out to its allies asking them to do the same. It seems that the UK's MI6 is responding to that request. BT telecom has officially confirmed that it is now removing Huawei's 3G and 4G equipment from key areas of its network because MI6 suspects the firm's involvement with the Chinese government. This comes right after Huawei's CFO arrest in Vancouver, Canada because the company allegedly was breaching...

Back to EE, the carrier will flip the switch on its 5G networks in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham and Manchester first. Ten more cities will get 5G coverage in 2019. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 discontinued in India

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus arrived in India as Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, but it never managed to reach the same popularity as the Redmi Note 4. That was mostly because the Chinese company also introduced the Redmi Note 5 Pro with dual cameras and better specs for a rather modest premium. That's why it's no surprise that Xiaomi has finally discontinued the Redmi Note 5 in India and is pulling the device out of the market. The phone is delisted from Mi.com and all major online and offline retailers. The price of the Redmi Note 5 was INR9,999 or INR11,999, depending on the memory variants....
