Samsung W2018SM-W2018SD835+6GBRAM+64GBROM 萌萌的电教 (@mmddj_china) July 25, 2017 This information (especially the SoC and RAM) isn't inline with what TENAA had pointed to back in May. Apple now has to pay $506 million to a university's patent licensing arm
In October of 2015 a jury ruled that Apple had to pay the patent licensing arm of the University of Wisconsin-Madison $234 million for infringing a patent, even though the company denied any infringement and argued that the patent was invalid. And today a US District Judge added $272 million on top of that, ordering Apple to pay the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) a whopping $506 million in total, for the same patent. The judge says Apple owes WARF additional damages because it continued to infringe upon its patent until it expired in December 2016. Apple is going to appeal the...

Android Pay reaches Spain
Back in May Google revealed that Spain would be one of the next markets to get Android Pay, and today this has become reality. The mobile payments service is now live in the country, although at the moment it only works with Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards issued by BBVA. While supporting only the customers of one bank might not be that impressive, the good news is that over one million stores across Spain will accept Android Pay as a method of payment. A short list of some of the places where you can use Android Pay in Spain is available here. Of course the service also...
iPhone 8 to be out in October-November with iris scanner, sans side-mounted TouchID
The famed and hyped iPhone 8 with its near-bezelless OLED display can't seem to keep itself out of the news, not even for a day. A new report out of Asia, based on supply chain sources, now tells us that this model will only start shipping in October or early November (in very limited numbers), though it will probably be unveiled alongside the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus at a launch event that's slated to occur on September 7, 8 or 9. Those devices may be released on September 17 (but that's a Sunday and Apple usually starts sales on a Friday, so take this with a grain of salt). The sometimes...

When you reach five referrals you will get a Fi weekender bag plus $100 Fi credit. The credit will come in around three weeks after the person you referred has been active for 30 days. The bags will...

Facebook's TV shows rumored to debut in mid-August
Last month we heard that Facebook's next project involves investing in the production of original video shows. And today a new report says we should expect to see the first episodes coming out in mid-August. The social network has allegedly commissioned two types of content - short-form, inexpensive "spotlight shows", as well as higher-end TV-style shows with running times close to what you'd expect from cable TV productions. The former are what's coming next month, while for the latter we're going to have to wait some more. According to "people familiar with the matter", Facebook...
Google kills off instant search results as you type
Back in 2010, Google launched what at the time seemed like an amazing innovation in the search field: instant results. Google Instant has, for the past seven years or so, showed you the first page of results while you were typing your query. On computers, this has helped you save a lot of time coupled with the search giant's instant suggestions. But on mobile Google Instant makes no sense, given that your keyboard is taking up half your screen while you're typing, and most of the rest is obscured by your fingers anyway. And over 50% of all Google searches are made on mobile devices...
Xiaomi, vivo and Oppo see massive gains in India as the smartphone market contracts for the first time
Canalys has outed the numbers for the Indian smartphone market for the second quarter of the year, April to June that is. And for the first time ever, the overall market is contracting, as shipments fell 4% compared to Q2 2016. Just under 27 million smartphones were sold in the subcontinent in Q2 of this year. Samsung leads the pack in market share, with 25%, but its lead is ever more threatened by a bunch of Chinese device makers. Xiaomi, for example, is in second place now, managing to quadruple its shipments to 4.8 million units compared to the year-ago quarter. vivo broke its...

Waze appears on Android Auto
Google has two platforms for navigation - its own Google Maps and the subsequently acquired Waze. The latter is invaluable due to its crowd-sourced traffic and road issues alerts and is a favorite for many drivers. Now Waze is finally integrated into Android Auto with the latest update, which means that if you have the Google-powered infotainment platform in your car you won't need to use your phone for it. There are some differences compared to the Android app, mostly because of regulators and automakers. The important sharing features are still available, though. Thankfully,...
Lenovo K7 Note runs through Geekbench wearing a Helio X20 chipset
Lenovo was promising killer performance and it seems that the MediaTek Helio X20 will be the source of that power (despite all the Snapdragon-related rumors). We had seen an X20-powered Lenovo, though we didn't quite believe the company would jump that high up from the Snapdragon 430 of the K6 Note. Anyway, Geekbench detected that Lenovo K7 Note has 4GB of RAM and ran Android 7.1 Nougat. The previous model was available in 3GB and 4GB versions, this one could be the same. The benchmark doesn't record available storage, so we have nothing on that front. The K Note series have proven...
Our editors talk: Summer 2017 Edition, Pt.1
It might be high tourist season on the beaches in the northern hemisphere, but it's a slow period for smartphone releases. Makers are prepping for the climax of the fall that is IFA in Berlin and that's giving us time to reflect back on what happened in the first half of 2017 and what we're looking forward to in the months ahead of us.
New batch of Google Pixel 2 renders and a video arrive
A new heap of Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL renders are upon us, complete with a video. The renders are based on factory computer-aided designs and rumored dimensions acquired by ONLeaks. Google Pixel 2 The dimensions in question are around 145.3x69.3x7.8mm (8.2mm if we count the camera hump) for the Pixel 2 and 157.6x76.3x7.9mm (8.6mm with the camera hump) for the Pixel 2 XL. Google Pixel 2 XL The new leak aligns nicely with earlier renders and an earlier video meaning this could very well turn out to be it. There's still a while to go...
Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus unveiled: dual Super AMOLED, dual Sony cams, Helio X30
Meizu drew back the curtains to reveal the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus. These two use Super AMOLED tech on both the front and the back - yes, the much-rumored rear display is a Samsung-made AMOLED. It can be used to check notifications, control the music player and snap selfies with the main camera. The main camera uses two 12MP Sony IMX386 sensors - one shooting in color and one in black & white. They sit behind bright f/2.0 apertures and combined promise solid low-light performance. Should you want to snap a selfie with the front camera, you'll get a 16MP image. Now for...
Mi 6 Mercury Silver Edition to be launched soon
The Mercury Silver edition of the Mi 6 that was last seen when the phone was announced will soon be on sale. Unfortunately, the phone will only be sold in China. Even worse, only 100 units will be made available, which will likely disappear in seconds. The Mercury Silver edition is just the regular Mi 6 but in a super flashy chrome finished back that is almost entirely colorless and reflects like a true mirror. This extends to the back and all the sides but the front will still be black. Xiaomi did not reveal the exact launch date yet but did reveal the price, which will be RMB...
Huawei first in smartphone shipments in China for Q2 2017
China is still the world's largest smartphone, but its growth streak finally ended in Q2 2017. After six consecutive weeks of increasing shipments the past three months marked a 3% decline, according to analyst company Canalys. For second quarter in a row leading company is Huawei with 23 million units. Oppo came a very close second with 21 million units, which is up 37% year on year. In third followed vivo with 16 million shipments between April and June. Xiaomi managed to ship just under 15 million units but was enough to leap over Apple in fourth place. This is a 60% boost...

According to recent info from reliable leakster @ice, Samsung has decided to give the Galaxy Note8 the crown jewels - an "Emperor Edition" will launch in South Korea and China with a domineering 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The base version will be 6GB/64GB. Another source, OSEN, reports that the Western hemisphere will get another model - one with 128GB storage instead. That model will carry a price tag of over $1,100. The Galaxy S8+ had a similar version with extra memory in Asia, a model that didn't make it to Europe (but is also available in Hong Kong and India). The Galaxy...

Adobe is finally killing Flash
Microsoft decided to pull the plug of Paint. Now another emblem of the early 2000s is following - Adobe is killing Flash. The company will stop the support and distribution of the platform by 2020. Flash is still used on many websites, even though the future clearly belongs to HTML5. All the major companies aim for a smooth transition by the end of 2020. Microsoft plans to disable Flash by default in Edge. Safari and Chrome are currently asking every time they needs to run the plug-on even if you have it installed. According to Google, Flash daily usage plummeted from 80% in...
USB 3.2 announced: up to 20Gbps speeds
USB 3.2 has been tentatively announced. It could offer up to 20Gbps transfer speeds, double what USB 3.1 Gen 2 can do. However, it is still in the final draft phase, the formal release will be in September when specs will be locked in. The new standard will be used exclusively with USB-C cables - the A/B connectors do not have enough wires to carry that much data. Yep, version 3.2 will be making use of the muli-lane capabilities of existing USB-C cables to deliver "over 2GB/s data transfer performance". If your USB-C cables can do 10Gbps (that's USB 3.1 Gen 2), then those cables will be...

After GFXBench, the Motorola XT1789 - which is alleged to be the Moto X4 - has now been spotted on the Geekbench benchmarking website. While the listing confirms 3GB RAM and Android 7.1.1 OS, it also mentions a Snapdragon 660 SoC. Previously GFXBench pointed to a Snapdragon 630 chipset instead. Either one of the benchmarks got that wrong, or we are looking at two different versions of the handset . The Moto X4 is rumored to sport a 5.2-inch Full HD display and 12MP rear + 16MP front cameras. Source | Via

And now, a render of a handset - dubbed AQUOS S2 (105 Limted Edition) - has leaked, showing the device in its full glory. The leak clearly shows the device sports a bezel-less display (said to be of 4K resolution) and also features an under-glass fingerprint sensor, something which Samsung couldn't manage for its Galaxy S8 flagship. The render also reveals a vertically aligned...

Words like "selfie", "face" and "blue" will bring photos containing what you are searching for. The next feature is called Smart app launcher. It launches an app,...

Alleged 3G Nokia 3310 (2017) clears FCC
A new phone from HMD Global has been certified by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC). It's a 3G device that carries the model designation TA-1036, and is likely to be the 3G variant of the Nokia 3310 (2017). The existing Nokia 3310 (2017) goes by TA-1030, while length and width match between the two devices. HMD had dropped hints last month about such a variant, but stopped short of revealing or confirming anything. Coming back to the certification, it also reveals the handset will support the following 2G/3G bands in the US: GSM850: 824.2 MHz ~ 848.8 MHz GSM1900:...
