Motorola fan page posts unreleased Moto phone with pop-up selfie camera

Yesterday, several photos of an unreleased Motorola smartphone have been posted to a Motorola Latin America community page on Facebook. The most intriguing part of the phone is a mechanical pop-up selfie camera - which Motorola has yet to include on any of its smartphones. Leaked images We get a few images of the phone and they appear to be of a Motorola prototype given the confidential markings on the lower bezel. The phone has a full display with nearly no bezels, save for the slightly larger lower one. Around back there is also an illuminated Moto batwing logo - a nice touch...

Watch the Asus ROG Phone II torture test

Zack is right back at it again with another durability video and this time the Asus ROG Phone II is under the sportlight. An expensive and pretty phone that we all want to see being tortured. Or not? The handset goes through the usual scratch tests and bend tests. As expected, the Gorilla Glass 6 front and back panel withstand scratches up to 5 on Mohs scale. Anything above 6 will scratch your screen and back. The side frame is indeed metal and more importantly, it passed the bending test but not without damage. Despite being so thick and solid, the ROG Phone II did visibly bend...

Little by little, the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro are starting to spread outside of China - first Malaysia, now Romania. Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro review

Google finds security flaw in Pixel, Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi phones

Google researchers found a serious security flaw on a number of Android devices and oddly, the issue was supposed to be patched back in December 2017. The phones in question are the Pixel, Pixel 2, Huawei P20, Samsung Galaxy S7, S8 and S9. Xiaomi Redmi 5A, Redmi Note 5, Xiaomi A1, Oppo A3 and Moto Z3 are also on the list and require additional patching. Google says it found the flaw seven days ago but it's not as serious as it sounds because it requires a malicious software to be installed with the user's permission. It's strange that patch that was pushed back in December 2017 wasn't...

Report: iPhone 11 production ramped up by 10%

It seems Apple's new iPhone 11 lineup is enjoying higher than expected demand, which has resulted in increased production capacity by an estimated 10%. Japanese financial outlet The Nikkei reports that an extra 7-8 million units are expected with the majority being the vanilla iPhone 11 at the expense of iPhone 11 Pro Max orders which have been toned down. According to sources close to the situation, Apple is due for a sizeable increase in iPhone production volume this year compared to last year's disappointing results. Apple has always been conservative with initial orders for new...

HTC exec says that immersive VR games and movies will be the killer app for 5G

VR could be the killer app for 5G, says Raymond Pao, SVP of products and strategy at HTC Vive. He doesn't believe that the higher bandwidth and lower latency alone are enough to drive consumer adoption, but those two qualities of 5G networks are key for an immersive experience. VR movies and cloud games are "likely to be the largest application segments when 5G is combined with VR", says Pao based on a report from Ericsson. Pao mentions light fields as an example - light fields are much more advanced than the 3D you see at the cinema, they even allow you to look around objects. Check...

Duo for Android is the latest Google app to get Dark Mode

Google has released Dark Mode for many of its apps including Gmail and Play Store, and the latest to get this feature is the company's video calling app Duo. With the Dark Mode enabled, Duo's UI turns dark grey, with the text changing to light grey or white color. This reduces strain to your eyes and makes it easier to use the app in dim conditions. Dark Mode on Duo should turn on automatically if you are on Android 10 and have enabled system-wide dark mode. But, you can also turn it on manually from the app's settings menu if you are on an older version of Android. That...

New Pixel 4 leaks show the Panda colorway, confirm AT&T availability

With less than two weeks to go until Google unveils its Pixel 4 lineup, the rumor mill has spun so much that there is basically nothing noteworthy left to know. We've seen all the key specs, design, camera and software capabilities of the new phones so all that's left is for Google to release them at its event on October 15. A new render of the black and white "Panda" model popped up and gives us a clear look at the device from the front and back. As with past Panda colored Pixels, we have a white back with a black contrasting camera cutout but this year we also get a black side...

Automated testing shows that the Samsung Galaxy Fold fails earlier than expected

Samsung claims that the Galaxy Fold will last 200,000 folds, which it estimates is 5 years of use. CNET decided to put those claims to the test and livestreamed the process using an automated machine that folds and unfolds the phone. The whole stream is 4 hours long and you can watch it below. We've cued up the video below to the bitter end of the phone - and it is bitter indeed, as it failed after just over 120,000 folds. That's 60% of the way to 200,000 folds or an estimated 3 years of use. Earlier, SquareTrade conducted a similar test (you can check out their short video here),...

iOS 13.1 puts a 5W cap on some wireless chargers

According to new reports, Apple's iOS 13.1 is putting a 5W cap on certain wireless chargers. The issue seems to be affecting both Apple certified and non-certified wireless pads. According to some reports Qi charging pads from Belkin, Mophie and Anker are not affected. Now, ChargerLab reports that with iOS 13.1, Apple is only supporting 7.5W wireless charging for pads that support fixed-frequency voltage regulation which is recommended by Apple. This means that even the new iPhone 11 lineup which supports up to 10W fast wireless charging tops out a mere 5W on chargers which delivered...
