Google opens early access to .page domains

Google is expanding its portfolio of web domains after it started with .app. Now it will also offer .page and the company has just started the Early Access period. It will last until next Tuesday when on October 9 the general availability registration will be open for people and businesses. The .page domain can be purchased along with the hosting via partners like GoDaddy and Name.com, but pricing will keep going down with time. The Early Access period allows to pre-order a domain for $10.99 at GoDaddy, while Name.com is yet to issue a price tag for the audience. The Early...

At a special event today Microsoft took the wraps off a lot of new hardware - specifically, the Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2, both with a matte black color option, but also the Studio 2 and the all-new Surface Headphones. Let's dive right in. Surface Pro 6 The Surface Pro 6 sports Intel's latest 8th-generation processors, and it also boasts improved internal cooling. That means you can get it with quad-core processors, and Microsoft says it will be 67% faster than its predecessor. You can expect 13.5 hours of battery life. The device weighs 1.7 pounds and has the same...

Huawei Watch GT smiles in leaked render ahead of unveiling alongside Mate 20

Huawei is prepping a new wearable, which it is said to launch alongside the Mate 20 family at the event taking place on October 16. The new device is called Huawei Watch GT, and there will be two versions - GT Sport and GT Classic. The latter is depicted in the leaked render you can see below. The Huawei Watch GT will focus on battery life and affordability. It is built around a 1.39-inch round OLED display with yet-unknown resolution. The Watch GT Classic uses a black bezel on a silver design, and will ship with a brown band as you can see. On the other hand, the GT Sport will be all...

Google Home Mini gets a new Aqua color version

Today Google has introduced some blue into its device lineup. We're talking about a new color version for its very successful Home Mini smart speaker, the entry level option with Google Assistant built-in. The new hue is called Aqua, and it's blue-ish for sure. Like all Google Home Mini colors, it's more understated than shouty, but it will definitely find its fit in less rooms than the Chalk and Charcoal options which are gray variations. The Aqua Google Home Mini is identical to the other hues aside from its paint job. It's even made from the same fabric. It's the first new color...

iOS 12.1 beta fixes iPhone charging issue, brings 70 new emoji, group FaceTime, eSIM support

The second iOS 12.1 beta has been released by Apple today, and this one is notable for a few reasons. First off, it comes with a fix for the weird charging issue that surfaced a few days ago. Basically, some iPhone XS and XS Max units simply refused to charge until you woke them up. In some cases a tap on the screen would suffice to convince the devices to start charging, but other people found that only unplugging the Lightning cable and then plugging it back in again would work. Thankfully, this issue will be addressed for everyone when iOS 12.1 leaves the beta stage and is...

Sony Xperia L3 leak reveals side-mounted fingerprint sensor, dual rear camera

Upcoming mid-range Sony smartphones just can't stop leaking today, it seems. Following on from the Xperia XA3 we've seen just a few hours ago, we now have leaked CAD-based renders of the Xperia L3, as well as a render video. As its name clearly states, this will be the successor to the Xperia L2, which got outed this January. It improves upon the formula, however, with a dual rear camera system and a slightly bigger touchscreen. The L3 will boast a 5.7" panel, which will likely have 720x1440 resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone's dimensions are 153.8 x 71.9 x 9 mm. No...

OnePlus CEO talks about how the in-display FP reader led to the removal of the jack

OnePlus has officially confirmed a couple of things about the upcoming OnePlus 6T - that it will have an in-display fingerprint reader and that it will lack a 3.5mm headphone jack. It turns out these two are connected. In a lengthy interview co-founder and CEO Pete Lau says that removing the 3.5mm jack was necessary in order to free up room for the in-display FP reader (which the company calls Screen Unlock). This echoes Apple's justification of removing the jack to make room for the Taptic Engine. Apple lead the way to jack-less phones, but Android makers were eager to follow...

Samsung's Level Up video envisions a glorious lifestyle for mobile gamers

Samsung's latest ad focuses on playing Fortnite on a Samsung Galaxy S9+, Galaxy Note9 or Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 but also on being a popular eSports gamer. The protagonist starts off at home, playing on a Galaxy S9+ but then receives a sponsorship from her local game store and gets a Galaxy Tab S4, she's then called upon by rapper Travis Scott and finally gets a spot on the US national team alongside Tyler Blevins, aka Ninja. Samsung's Fortnite exclusivity on Android already ended, meaning you can play Fortnite on other droids. Still, there's no denying that the Galaxy S9+. Galaxy...

Samsung is looking to add wireless charging to its midrangers

We know Samsung will aim to add more premium features to its midrange devices to outdo aggressively priced competition from Chinese manufacturers and it looks like wireless charging may be one of those features. According to a report from South Korea, Samsung will launch a cheaper 9W wireless charger this month that will cost just KRW 20,000 (€15). To put that into perspective its current entry-level P3100TBEGWW charging pad costs KRW 50,000 (€40). This shows Samsung's intention to trickle down wireless charging from its more premium Galaxy S and Note lineups down to its Galaxy A...

Google teases the Active Edge on Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL in a video

Google is teasing the new version of Active Edge on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL with a video focused on the act of touching, squeezing and hugging objects and people. The video also signals the Pixel's arrival to the Japanese market. Google has set up a landing page for Japanese customers interested in getting the Pixel 3/3 XL. Sadly the video doesn't show the phones themselves, but some of the colors accented in it can be interpreted as tips to the Pixel 3/3 XL's color options. We already have a good idea of what Google's latest two phones will pack and a great idea of what...

The OnePlus 6 is completely sold out in France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus. In other countries the the selection is scarce - all the traditional Midnight Black and Mirror Black variants are out, only the Red option with 8...

Samsung Galaxy S10's triple camera detailed: regular, ultra-wide and tele lenses

Samsung is making phones with triple cameras now and the Galaxy A7 (2018) was just the appetizer. The main course is coming early next year with the Galaxy S10, which should have an ultra-wide, a regular and a telephoto lens. We saw some incomplete specs for S10's dual camera earlier this year, but this newly leaked table purports to reveal all. The main camera seems unchanged with a 12MP sensor (1.4µm pixels) and a dual aperture (f/1.5 and f/2.4). The tele camera appears mostly the same too, aside from the bump to 13MP (compared to Galaxy S9+'s 12MP). Both have OIS like before. The...

Google fixes Pixel and Pixel XL charging issue with latest update

Back in August, when Android Pie was in Beta mode, some Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL smartphones on the program lost their fast charging. The issue was expected to be fixed by the time the stable version rolled around but it was still there. Now Google says the problem is fixed with the October security update. Google Pixel XL The latest monthly patch fixes the problem with the communication between third-party USB-PD adapters and the phone, although the issue appeared with original chargers as well. Updates for the Pixel 2 arrived as well - they are fixing Android Auto...

Sony Xperia XA3 renders show dual camera on the back, 3.5mm jack on top

As great as the Xperia XZ3 is, there are a couple of things about it we don't love. Surprisingly, the mid-range Sony Xperia XA3 may bring those things that we were missing as you can see in these CAD-based renders. There's a dual camera on the back, for starters. There are no details on the hardware hiding behind those two lenses though. The other thing is the 3.5mm headphone jack, which lives on the top. And check out that side-mounted fingerprint reader. It seemed that Sony had abandoned this setup as all three XA2 models have a reader on the back, XZ3 too. Also, there are now...

Huawei Mate 20 Pro promo video leaks ahead of schedule

The Mate 20 flagship pair is set to change Huawei's design language yet again. There has been no shortage of leaks revealing the design (both live shots and renders), but this video is a great summary of what's to come. It appears to be half promo videos, half slideshow of renders. You can see a text on the bottom highlighting the top-specced version (8GB RAM, 512GB storage) and touting the fast Kirin 980 chipset. Judging by the teardrop notch this should be the Huawei Mate 20 Pro as leaks so far show that the non-pro version will have a wider notch. Which might not matter in Europe...

Rumor has it HMD's next flagship will be called Nokia 9 PureView

After HMD secured the PureView trademark it was clear that the company is working on a Nokia camera phone. And it wouldn't surprise anyone to hear that the resurrected brand will be reintroduced with the Nokia 9 PureView. The marketing for the new flagship will reportedly kick off soon, according to leakster Roland Quandt. This goes against reports that the phone has been delayed for next year, which is good news for fans. HMD has two events scheduled. Based on the frequency and level of detail of recent leaks, we're pretty sure we'll see the Nokia 7.1 Plus later this week (October 4),...

Samsung to see an 18% increase in profits in Q3 2018

Samsung is expected to announce its guidance earnings later this week and analysts expect more impressive results. According to a report from Reuters, the chip business did a stellar job and helped the company to an 18% overall increase in profit and 3.7% increase in revenue. The smartphone business, however, will see its operating profit drop for a third consecutive quarter. The July-September period marks the end of a two-year cycle of tight supply for some types of chips and the trend reveals a spike should be expected in the last quarter. The preliminary results, expected on...

Huawei Mate 20's RAM and storage versions revealed

Huawei's Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro (and likely Mate 20 Porsche Design) are due this month but there are still unconfirmed bits of their specs sheets. One of those were the RAM and memory configurations but we can now check it off the list. Thanks to a TENAA listing we know all the upcoming configurations of the Mate 20 (model number HMA-A00), the Mate 20 Pro (LYA-AL00 and LYA-TL00) and the Porsche Design. Here thy are. Huawei Mate 20 (HMA-A00) 4GB RAM + 64GB/128GB/256GB 6GB RAM + 128GB/256GB/512GB 8GB RAM + 128GB/256GB/512GB Huawei Mate 20 Pro (LYA-AL00/TL00) 6GB RAM...

OnePlus 6T press images reveal all about design, waterdrop notch exposed

OnePlus is announcing the 6T in two weeks, but thanks to the leakster Roland Quandt, we get to see the phone from all angles ahead of time. The 6T will come with a 6.41" screen and a waterdrop notch for the selfie camera, while the back will feature a vertical dual camera setup and no fingerprint scanner as that will be under the OLED display. OnePlus 6T in Mirror Black If you think the phone looks familiar, you might be right. It has a lot in common with the Oppo R17, but this is hardly a surprise as Oppo and OnePlus share some of their R&D and manufacturing...
