Android P public beta first-look review

Just in case you missed it, Google held its annual developer's conference earlier this week. It was jam-packed with interesting announcements, most notably, the announcement of the first public beta of Android P. We wanted to take a quick look what Android P feels like so we went ahead and registered a couple of devices for beta access. We spent quite a bit of time playing around with the two phones looking for the new features that Google promised us.

vivo X21 may launch in India on May 29

vivo's X21 made its debut in China in March, and it started its international journey in Singapore at the beginning of this month. Now it seems that it will reach India before May is over, or at least it will be unveiled for the subcontinent. vivo has started sending 'block the date' invites to press in India, and given the huge "X" on the image we assume this can only be about an X-series device. With that in mind, it's not yet clear whether the X21 itself will be presented, the X21 UD with the under-display fingerprint sensor, or the X21i that has been leaking a lot in the past...

Samsung Galaxy A8 Star and A8 Lite inching closer to launch with 3C certification

Two Samsung phones with model numbers SM-G8750 and SM-G8850 appeared last month on TENAA. The devices, expected to be called Galaxy A8 Lite and Galaxy A8 Star are even closer to launching in China after the 3C regulatory approved them. The listing also revealed that they will both support 15W charging. As seen in the image, they will be able to go up to 9V at 1.67A along with the regular 5V at 2A. There is no more official information for now, but a TENAA listing revealed you will be filling a 3,700 mAh power cell. Other specs confirmed included 4 GB RAM, 64 GB of storage, and...

Xiaomi smart home products arrive to US

Xiaomi might be popular with its smartphones, but it also has an in-house IoT ecosystem thanks to the booming startup industry in China. Some of its smart home products include the Mi Bedside Lamp, Mi LED Smart Bulb and Mi Smart Plug, all three of them soon to be available in the US. The news comes straight from Xiaomi co-founder Wang Xiang who bragged about the expansion on Twitter. The United States market is already familiar with the Xiaomi brand, even if phones are yet to reach the country. Products like the Mi Power Bank Pro, Mi Home Security Camera, and the Mi Electric...

LG Q7 shows up on Geekbench with Helio P10

LG trademarked the Q7 moniker back in March with the Korean Intellectual Property Office, meaning a new affordable device is on its way. Now the phone allegedly got tested on Geekbench, confirming that it will arrive with the modest Helio P10 chipset. The LG Q7 got a 630 single-core score and 2322 on the multi-core test. Sadly, we can't compare the phone with other devices, powered by the MediaTek chip because of the massive differences between Geekbench versions. RAM is listed to be 4 GB, while the Android version is 8.1 Oreo. The phone is most likely to arrive as a mini...

DeviceAtlas: iOS more popular in English-speaking countries, India rediscovers love for feature phones

Analysts from DeviceAtlas just published their Q1 2018 report on smartphone usage and the numbers reveal some interesting trends. According to the report, devices with 4 GB RAM increased their presence in 19 of 20 observed markets, while Android lost ground to iOS both in developed markets like the US and in developing ones like Egypt. A big exception is India where Jio Reliance reintroduced feature phones with 4G and KaiOS, and reached 15% market share, beating Apple into third. DeviceAtlas says that even though feature phones are still part of the mix across markets, nowhere they had...

A case maker leaks an iPhone SE 2 render - iPhone X-like display with a notch

Despite plenty of evidence that a successor to the iPhone SE isn't coming, the latest bits of information coming from case maker Olixar, makes us think otherwise. The render shows an iPhone X-like screen with a notch on the top and a familiar chassis design dating back to the iPhone 5s, which is in line with the leaked photos of the device's casing last month. However, this leak raises the question of will it have a Touch ID fingerprint sensor? And if not, will the notch incorporate all the needed tech for the Face ID introduced with the iPhone? In any case, we should take this...

Oppo's Realme 1 spotted in hands-on photos

Shortly after Oppo announced its sub-brand in India called Realme, a leaked hands-on surfaced showing its first smartphone, Realme 1, in the flesh. At first glance, the device is pretty similar to the Oppo F7 with the signature Diamond Black back but since it's going to be priced way lower than the latter, Oppo has done some things differently here. For starters, the Realme 1 will have a 6-inch notch-less display with 1080 x 2160 resolution (18:9 aspect ratio), it will miss the fingerprint sensor, the main camera sensor has been downgraded down to 13MP and the same goes for the...

Asus to launch a ROG gaming smartphone in June

A gaming smartphone from Asus under their ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand? Sure! After Razer announced its gaming-centric smartphone, followed by Xiaomi's Black Shark and ZTE nubia Red Magic the gaming phones are suddenly trending. Still, we suggest you take this sort of information with a bit of skepticism as nothing has been officially confirmed and it's all just rumors for now. It seems that plenty of renown PC hardware manufacturers are jumping on the bandwagon by trying their luck in the smartphone world (remember Acer's Predator 8 tablet?). The "gaming" label has been selling a...

Lenovo Z5 sketch with nearly 100% screen-to-body ratio revealed

The week started off with a teaser from the Lenovo VP Chang Cheng who posted a corner of a notch-less Lenovo device. Now he is wrapping the week with more information about the phone - it will be called Lenovo Z5 and from what it looks like it might have a screen-to-body ratio as close to 100% as we have seen so far. Cheng wrote on Weibo that the Z5 would come with four new technologies that should effectively lead to removing the bezels from all sides, including space usually taken by the camera, the earpiece or the fingerprint scanner. All three of them can already be implemented...

Google says Duplex AI will explicitly tell callee they're talking to a bot

Google's demo of its Duplex technology looked straight out of a sci-fi movie and the crowd at this year's I/O conference couldn't control its excitement. It did look fascinating, but as the dust settled and excitement levels came down, other voices started getting louder. Voices that criticized the feature, saying it mimics human voice and effectively deceives the person who's on the other end of the call. That the many in Google did not erupt in utter panic and disgust at the first suggestion of this... is incredible to me. What of Google's famed discussion boards? What are you all...

There were plenty of leaks in the past couple of months ranging from FCC leaks and renders to actual photos of the device but this is the first time we see a clear press image revealing every angle of the Moto Z3 Play. As you can see from the image below, the device will stay true to its roots incorporating the same design language as the previous models. It has been previously speculated that the Moto Z3 Play will offer a tall 18:9-inch screen while abolishing the physical home button at the bottom. Well, the new render confirms that and we can clearly see the fingerprint sensor on...

A new YouTube feature is rolling out to the iPhone X: HDR video support. Hundreds of iPhone X users are reporting they can now watch high dynamic range videos on YouTube. With this, the iPhone X has made it to the list that currently includes devices like the Samsung Galaxy S8, Google Pixel, LG V30, and Sony Xperia XZ Premium. It's worth mentioning that reports...
