Just in case you missed it, Google held its annual developer's conference earlier this week. It was jam-packed with interesting announcements, most notably, the announcement of the first public beta of Android P. Xiaomi might be popular with its smartphones, but it also has an in-house IoT ecosystem thanks to the booming startup industry in China. Analysts from DeviceAtlas just published their Q1 2018 report on smartphone usage and the numbers reveal some interesting trends. According to the report, devices with 4 GB RAM increased their presence in 19 of 20 observed markets, while Android lost ground to iOS both in developed markets like the US and in developing ones like Egypt. A big exception is India where Jio Reliance reintroduced feature phones with 4G and KaiOS, and reached 15% market share, beating Apple into third. The week started off with a teaser from the Lenovo VP Chang Cheng who posted a corner of a notch-less Lenovo device. Google's demo of its Duplex technology looked straight out of a sci-fi movie and the crowd at this year's I/O conference couldn't control its excitement. Three new Nokia smartphones have been spotted in a certification listing. Carrying model numbers TA-1075, TA-1105, and TA-1116, the devices have received regulatory approval in Russia.
