Here's which European countries will first get Samsung Galaxy S10 5G

Samsung introduced the Galaxy S10 5G at its Unpacked Event. This is the biggest device of the series with more cameras, and, of course, with full 5G support both for mmWave and sub-6GHz networks. The phone will see gigabit speeds only in select countries, and Samsung announced a short list of the first places in Europe to get the new handset. They are France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Samsung Galaxy S10 5G To have a proper 5G connectivity, your carrier has to play along as well - not all networks will support the full capabilities of the...

Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10+ with Exynos 9820 Octa benchmarked

Samsung's fresh new S10 lineup is once again powered by the best the industry can offer - Snapdragon 855 and Samsung's in-house Exynos 9820 Octa chipset. We already managed to put a Snapdragon 855 phone through its paces in our Xiaomi Mi 9 review, but we were eager to test Samsung's flagship SoC. And as luck would have it we are currently in possession of the Exynos-powered Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+, so we wasted no time and put them through our benchmark gauntlet. Anyway, the Exynos 9820 Octa's CPU configuration has two big Mongoose M4 cores clocked at 2.7 GHz. The other two...

Nokia 2.1 with 1 GB RAM gets Android Pie Go

HMD Global rolled out Android Pie update for Nokia 5 (2017) last month. And yesterday, the company rolled out this latest version of Android to Nokia 6 (2017). Well now, HMD has started rolling out Android Pie (Go Edition) for its Nokia 2.1. Get it while it's hot! Our latest Android 9 Pie update is rolling out now. Nokia 2.1 just keeps getting better. #Nokiamobile pic.twitter.com/SN9uEsqPGZ— Juho Sarvikas (@sarvikas) February 21, 2019 The Nokia 2.1 was launched last year in May with Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition). Now it received the new version of the lightweight plaform. The...

The Galaxy Fold doesn't have a 3.5mm jack, but it does have something on top

The Samsung Galaxy Fold has two screens, two batteries and six cameras, but you know what it doesn't have? A 3.5mm headphone jack. That puts it on a very short list of Samsung smartphone in many years to not have a jack (the others being the Galaxy A8s and exotics like the W2019 clamshell). There's no microSD slot either (it shares this trait with the Galaxy S10 5G). Samsung kept the Fold away from the prying eyes of tech journalists and is very selective about showing the sides of the device. For example, most product shots don't show the side-mounted capacitive fingerprint...

Here are our first Samsung Galaxy S10+ camera samples

Samsung announced the Galaxy S10 family yesterday with updated internals, HDR10+ Infinty-O displays and unltrasonic fingerprint readers. Those are good and all, but the S-series have long been among the best cameraphones on the market, and this year they've become even more versatile. What we're getting on the Galaxy S10 and S10+ is a flagship-grade triple camera setup spearheaded by the tried and tested 12MP primary module with dual pixel autofocus and stabilized dual aperture lens, flanked by telephoto and ultra-wide cameras. The telephoto unit is again carried over from the previous...

Samsung Galaxy Home speaker to go on sale by April

Samsung has revealed that the Galaxy Home smart speaker will go on sale sometime by April. This information was conveyed by co-CEO DJ Koh following the Galaxy S10 launch event yesterday. The Galaxy Home speaker was announced alongside the Galaxy Note 9 back in August. Although no release date or pricing was announced back then, no one really thought it would take this long for it to hit the shelves. Now, six months after the announcement, Samsung is still mum about the exact launch date for the smart home speaker. This could very well have to do with Bixby, the AI assistant...

Telstra offers to upgrade you to Galaxy S10 5G later if you buy a Galaxy S10+ now

Telstra is hyped up for 5G and will be the first carrier in Australia to offer the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, which will be available in the first half of the year. And you don't have to wait, you buy a Galaxy S10+ now and upgrade to the S10 5G when it arrives "at no extra cost". The press release doesn't go into details, presumably this means at no extra cost except the price difference to the Galaxy S10 5G (which will cost more than the S10+). You get more than the next-gen wireless connectivity. Comparing the two, you get a larger screen (6.7" vs. 6.4"), 3D ToF cameras on the front and...

ZTE confirms it will bring 5G smartphone with Snapdragon 855

The Chinese manufacturer ZTE announced on Monday it will bring a 5G phone at MWC in Barcelona on February 25. An event invite promised "New Axon, New 5G flagship" without clarifying if this means one and the same unit or two separate phones. Today a new teaser arrived and it's as cryptic as the previous one. It says "5G speeds" and "bow down to performance" with stylized 855 in the middle, but we are still wondering if it will be a new Axon or a completely new series of devices. ZTE Technology has started investing heavily in 5G connectivity after saving itself from bankruptcy...

You can remap the Bixby button on the Samsung Galaxy S10 phones

The Samsung Galaxy S10 phones will let you remap the Bixby button, well, sort of. You can't completely evict the Samsung digital assistant, but what you can do is assign an app of your choice to the button. Here's how it works. The button can be single and double pressed. You can assign your app to one of those options, Bixby will move to the other option. Note that a long-press always launches Bixby in voice command mode. The Bixby button supports single, double and long presses So, it's not perfect, but those of you who hate the maligned digital assistant can at least get...

Three days until Huawei unveils its 5G-connected foldable phone at the MWC

The Huawei P30 and P30 Pro will be unveiled on in late March, but between now and then an even more premium device will make its debut - Huawei's 5G-connected foldable phone. In fact, the countdown has reached "3 days" as you can see in the teaser video below. The shows essentially the same thing as the teaser image from three weeks ago - the hinge of the phone. While we don't know much about the foldable screen part of the phone, the 5G part is pretty clear - the Balong 5000 5G modem will pair with the Kirin 980 chipset. The countdown is on. Just 3 days to go before we are...

Gartner: Smartphone shipments fail to impress in Q4 2018

2018 wasn't a great year for smartphone sales. According to the latest research by Gartner, the total number of devices sold rose from 407.845 million to 408.358 million, which is a tiny 0.1% growth. The biggest loser was Apple, selling 11.8% fewer units in the last holiday period compared with the same quarter in 2017. Facebook for Android update allows you to opt out of background location tracking

Facebook is rolling out a new change in the Android version of the app, which will allow users to opt out of background location tracking. Previously, the Facebook app for Android either let you keep location services off or on. The latter also allowed the app to track and save your location constantly, even if the app was not in use, especially when using features such as Nearby Friends. With this new feature, if you choose to enable location services, you will now get another option that will let you disable background location tracking. This basically restricts the location...

Verizon will be first to bring Galaxy S10 5G to the US, T-Mobile and AT&T to carry the Galaxy Fold

Verizon claims it will be the first US carrier to offer the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, which will be available in the first half of this year (the global launch is in the Spring). Sprint will also offer the 5G model, but in the Summer. T-Mobile has announced plans to carry the Galaxy 5G and Galaxy Fold, but without giving a time frame. Same for AT&T, the 5G and Fold are coming "later this year". However, AT&T will offer a second 5G phone from Samsung in the second half of this year. Starting today, the 4G models can be pre-ordered from the four major carriers. Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint...

Samsung Galaxy M20 arrives to Europe, Ukraine gets it first

Just last week we learned of Samsung's plans to bring the Galaxy M20 to Europe and it's already happening. Samsung's Ukrainian branch has already announced the arrival of the new midranger with humongous 5,000 mAh battery although and the phone is already available to order. The Ukrainian online retailer, which got local exclusivity of the phone, asks UAH 6,199 ($229/€200) for it. Delivery date is yet to be confirmed though units should arrive any moment now. You can follow the source link to sign up and be notified when that happens. And it probably won't be long before it...

Realme 3 will have Helio P70, CEO confirms

Yesterday Realme revealed its new smartphone will have vertical dual cameras and diamond design on the back. Later the company CEO went even further with the teasers and confirmed the Realme 3 will have Helio P70 chipset. The Realme 3 will be the second smartphone by the company with the MediaTek SoC, following the Realme U1. It is supposed to have lower power consumption in heavy games, faster CPU and downloads, compared with Snapdragon 660, seen in the Realme 2 Pro. It shouldn't be surprising though - the Helio P70 is built on the slightly more efficient 12nm process compared to...

Oppo F11 Pro appears in hands-on video

Oppo was on a teaser spree for the F11 Pro last week, revealing the 48 MP main snapper, its massive screen, and the raising selfie camera. While we are waiting for an official announcement, a Twitter user from Vietnam posted a four-second video of the device, showcasing the big display and cool colors on the back. For some unknown reason, the leakster does not reveal the biggest talking point - the elevating selfie shooter. oppo F11 Pro pic.twitter.com/W6k1Er9uDF— Boby Đỗ (杜成忠) (@Boby25846908) February 20, 2019 The short clip reveals the...
