Samsung trademarks “Z Slide” smartphone name with European IP Office

Recently, we learned that Samsung trademarked the name “Z Roll”, hinting that the company was working towards a device with an extendable display. Samsung has more recently trademarked the name “Z Slide” with the European Intellectual Property Office, indicating yet another entry into Samsung’s “Z” lineup of devices. The trademark is listed under Class 9, indicating a smartphone, mobile, telecommunication apparatus, or tablet computer. There’s no telling what the ‘Z Slide’ would look like. LetsGoDigital provided the following mockup render and speculates that the Z Slide may be a...

Xiaomi Mi 11, Mi 11 Pro, and Mi 11 Ultra reach 3 million cumulative sales worldwide

Xiaomi is proudly announcing that its Mi 11, Mi 11 Pro, and Mi 11 Ultra have reached over 3 million cumulative sales worldwide. Undoubtedly, if we would add in the other members of the Mi 11 family, the number would be even bigger. Furthermore, Xiaomi boasts that the aforementioned trio took up the most market share for Android phones in China in their respective price bracket of CNY 4,000 - 6,000. This statistic allegedly comes from third party agencies and it's valid for the first quarter of the year. Although Xiaomi isn't saying it, we're assuming a lot of those 3 million units...

Clubhouse now available globally on Android

Clubhouse has arrived on Android. The company, who had initially started a slow rollout, has announced that it is now available globally. Dear everyone, everywhere: @Android is officially live across the globe! ❤️👋— Clubhouse (@Clubhouse) May 21, 2021 The app works pretty much exactly the same as it does on iOS. This means you still need an invite from someone to be able to start using the service but the good thing is that all existing users get multiple invites to give out so there's plenty of those going around at the moment. Clubhouse is a social networking service that allows...

Asus Zenfone 8 Flip disassembly video shows few changes from last year’s model

There’s a pair of new Zenfones from Asus and PBKreviews decided to give us a look at the larger Flip model’s insides. There are hardly any hardware differences (check out the Zenfone 7 Pro teardown here) from last year’s model which isn’t surprising. It’s still cool to see just how Asus managed to cram the flip-up camera module among all the other components. Once the glass back and protective cover are removed, we can see the flip up camera surrounded by the motherboard. The 5,000mAh battery is held in place with several connectors while the loudspeaker assembly occupies the bottom...

WhatsApp will soon let you migrate chat history to another phone number

As of now, WhatsApp is quite restrictive when it comes to chat history syncing, only supporting a single phone number rather than an account. Well, according to a reputable source, Facebook is working on making your life easier when changing phones. Screenshots of the supposed features WhatsApp's developers' team will soon let you migrate chat history from one phone number to another, which is pretty useful for people owning two phones or who plan on changing their phone number. They also seem to be working on cross-platform sync because right now, you can't transfer your chat...

Microsoft Office for Android gains dark mode

Most paper is white, so naturally digital document editors show black text on a white background. But paper reflects light and screens emit light – many phone users find it easier on the eyes if they read white text on a black background instead. And many of them have apparently been asking Microsoft to enable Dark mode in the Office app for Android. Today their wish is granted, they can now view and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents without bright light blasting their eyes. The update is rolling out today. Once you install it, you can tap on the Profile icon in the Home...

Coolpad is coming back, will unveil the Cool 20 next week

Remember Coolpad? The company has been pretty quiet, releasing only a handful of phones over the last twelve months. But according to its Weibo account it is ready to wake up from slumber – it will unveil a new phone on May 25 (Tuesday). That phone will be called the Cool 20 and you can check out an image of its back below. Coolpad rejects plastic builds that are quick to scratch up and promises a more premium and durable glass sandwich design (presumably with a metal frame in between, though it doesn’t specify). Coolpad is coming back and says "no" to plastic • New phone coming...

Android 12 will prevent screenshots being automatically uploaded on Google Photos

Google Photos users with Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo smartphones have been struggling with a niggling issue since forever - their phones have been backing up their screenshots along with their camera shots with no option to switch it off. According to people from XDA Developers, who dug around the Android 12 beta, Google will finally require that all devices that want to run Android 12 must save the screengrabs in a different folder so they don’t mix with the actual photos. Up until now, major manufacturers pushed the screenshots into the DCIM subfolder (which stands for Digital Camera...

Spotify is finally making a long-awaited feature a reality - the option to download songs to your Apple Watch and stream directly to your headset. Both phones are expected to launch in July which would leave roughly 5 months for them to reach the aforementioned milestones. For comparison, Samsung managed 2.5 million...

The iPhone 12 was the best-selling phone in Q1 by number of units sold, the iPhone 12 Pro Max came in second. However, looking at the revenue they generated the two Apple devices switch places. This comes from the latest report by Counterpoint Research, which notes that this Q1 was a record-setting quarter with over $100 billion in revenue generated by smartphones. As expected high end devices made the most money – models costing $400 and up account for 65% of the global revenue. The unit in the test boasts 8GB RAM and managed a 1,021-point single-core performance and 3,427 points on the multi-core test. Here's our detailed video review of the Xiaomi Mi 11i

Welcome to our full video review of the Xiaomi Mi 11i, aka the Mi 11X Pro in India. We liked the phone in a vacuum - it has an excellent display, the very best chipset around in the Snapdragon 888, a dependable battery life with solid charging speed and very capable cameras. There are some cut corners like the plastic frame, side-mounted fingerprint sensor and only IP53 splash resistance. But the Xiaomi Mi 11i is only marginally cheaper than some sough-after flagships like the Galaxy S21 5G, which puts it in a tough spot, market-wise. Indian Mi 11X Pro units have a better going,...

Asus Zenfone 8 and 8 Flip are officially coming to India

We knew it was likely, now it is official – the Asus Zenfone 8 is headed to India. Asus has launched a landing page for the phone and while the page just calls it “new phone”, we think it will trade under the “8z” name. The reason previous Zenfones adopted the “z” naming is that an Indian company owns the Zen and ZenMobile trademarks, which lead a local court to bar Asus from using the Zenfone name as it could confuse consumers. Aside from the new name tag, however, the phone is as we’ve seen it in Europe and Taiwan – a petite Snapdragon 888 flagship with high end features. The Sony...

Google Pixel 6 appears in new renders, more specs revealed

Last week we saw leaked images of the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which revealed the new Google purebreads will come with a refreshed design. And yesterday we saw the Pro model appear in new renders with some specs. Now the vanilla Pixel 6 has also appeared in a new set of images, giving us a better look at its design. The new Google Pixel 6 images corroborate last week's leak - the smartphone packs a punch hole display and has two cameras on the rear placed on the horizontal island. However, the screen in the latest pictures is surrounded by slightly thicker bezels, while the rear...
