It made its debut in Taiwan and so far hasn't been announced for any other markets, but that's going to change real soon. Apple finally releases a case for the iPhone XR

The company definitely took its time on this one, but Apple has now finally made the first official case for the iPhone XR available through its online store. Apple usually has an assortment of cases ready at the moment of any of its new smartphones' release, but for some reason this hasn't happened for the XR. Don't get too excited, though - it's just one option at the moment, a clear case. It lets you show off the XR's design while also protecting it against drops and scratches, if ever so slightly. The case, in Apple's words, is "thin, light, and easy to grip", "crafted with a...

Xiaomi builds DeepExposure AI to restore detail in over/under exposed photos

Modern smartphone photography is as much a product of what the image sensor captures as it is of what an image processor does with the information afterwards. Xiaomi has presented a paper that aims to solve a common issue of small pixels - limited dynamic range - by employing an AI to fix the exposure of the photo. But not the whole photo, instead the image is segmented into sub-images and their exposure is adjusted separately. Then the different parts are merged to form the final image. Take this image for example. The buildings are white, the clouds are white and the overexposed sky...

This previously only worked...

Samsung Galaxy M20's screen glass leaks, check out the teardrop notch

Now that assembly of Galaxy M phones has started, we're bound to see more leaks of the hardware. Today a photo of the screen glass for the Galaxy M20 has surfaced, showing a teardrop notch - a first for Samsung, which was one of the few remaining makers without a notch in their lineup. That screen measures 5.6" and will reportedly feature a Super AMOLED panel with 1080p+ resolution. Galaxy On phones (which the M-series aims to replace) usually sported LCDs in the lower levels and even the higher standing Galaxy A8s may go with LCD. Samsung Galaxy M20's screen glass with a teardrop...

vivo NEX2 poses for photos, shows off the back screen

While we are waiting for something official from vivo about the NEX S2 (assuming it's going to be called the NEX S2), the handset continues to pop up on various corners of the web. This time the pictures focus mostly on the back side and the camera setup. vivo NEX S2's back side The NEX S2 doesn't need a front camera - it just uses its secondary screen as a viewfinder and takes selfies with the vastly more capable rear shooter. The ring in the middle houses two camera sensors and one more on each side. It is called Lunar Ring and doubles as a display scale with which you can...

The phone is expected to have 10GB of RAM and 256GB storage and will most likely feature McLaren branding. With a name like that, we expect a splash of the trademark orange color too. Yandex introduces its first Telephone with a voice assistant called Alissa

When your direct competitor Google launches the Pixel smartphone, you can't just stay silent - you have to counter-attack and protect your domestic market. That's exactly what the Russian search engine Yandex did - it launched Yandex Telephone with its own voice assistant Alissa which sounds like a Slavic Alexa knock-off. The specs of the Yandex Telephone are mostly midrange affair - Snapdragon 630 chipset with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage. The phone supports two SIM cards in a hybrid slot, meaning you can replace one of them with a microSD for up to 128 more gigs of storage. There...

Huawei nova 4 photographed in the wild with screen hole, P20 Pro-like rear camera

It's getting closer - the Huawei nova 4 will be unveiled on December 17, but has been spotted in the wild several times already. This is the first time we're seeing its back, however, and the design is very much in line with the Huawei P20 Pro. Just like the concept renders from earlier. Huawei managed to keep three of the bezels fairly small, though there's a bit of a chin at the bottom. Also, the status bar hs been aligned to the right, to keep it away from the selfie camera. There's no in-display fingerprint reader, instead there's a classic reader on the back. Also here is a triple...

Xiaomi teases phone with 48MP camera, coming in January

Earlier this year Xiaomi opened an in-house camera division and committed to delivering premium image quality. Now company co-founder and President Lin Bin is teasing a photography monster. And he does so with modesty. He posted a close up of an upcoming Xiaomi phone - to be released in January, he says - and the "48MP camera" label can't escape the attention. Bin has used this phone for a few weeks and describes it as "not bad". We guess you don't need to brag when you have the highest resolution mobile sensor ever. The mighty Nokia 808 PureView had a 41MP sensor, the latest Huawei...

Honor with in-display selfie camera coming on January 22, is it the Honor View 20

Huawei's sub-brand Honor will show off the first flagship with an in-display selfie camera on January 22 in Paris. The outline of the upcoming phone is featured in an invite for the unveiling that prompts us to See the Unseen. Our best guess is that the outline is of the Honor View 20, successor to the flagship Honor View 10, which was released in January this year. It will be the first flagship phone with a pinhole selfie camera and will feature the Kirin 980 chipset from the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. Samsung will be the first maker to show off a phone with an in-display...

Samsung Galaxy S10+ renders revised: now with four rear cameras, thinner bezels

The Galaxy S10+ renders had a mistake, which has now been corrected. No, not the dual selfie camera in a hole, it's the rear camera that was the issue. Revised Samsung Galaxy S10+ renders (unofficial) The S10+ will have four cams instead of three like originally shown. There's still no solid info on the functions of those cameras, but we'd be surprised if it deviates from the Galaxy A9 (2018) formula: wide, ultra-wide, tele and depth sensor (potentially a Time-of-Flight module instead of a simple B&W camera). Here are some more of the new renders: Four cameras on...

Epic Games announces launch of game store for PC and Mac, Android version coming later

Epic Games, developers of titles such as Unreal Tournament, Gears of War and more recently, Fortnite, has announced that it's launching its own online game store where other developers can sell their games. The store will initially launch on PC and Mac and will eventually also be available on Android and other "open platforms" in 2019. The concept of this store is similar to Valve's Steam and EA's Origin - the Epic Games Store will feature a list of curated titles from different developers. The difference here is the cut that Epic takes. Other platforms have become somewhat...

Sony Xperia XZ4 rumored specs suggest 21:9 screen, 3.5 mm audio jack

Last week CAD renders of the Sony Xperia XZ4 appeared, suggesting triple camera on the back and extra tall 6.5" screen. It is not going to feature a notch and will instead come with an super tall 21:9 display, made by LG. This bold claim, along with the return of a 3.5 mm audio jack, were now backed by the leakster Ice Universe on his Weibo profile. Even if the specs look fishy, given that no company has brought back the jack so far and a CAD render of a case suggested lack of any audio-only port, they are indeed intriguing given the decent track record of the...

Meizu C9 launches with modest specs and great price

It forgoes a notch with a 5.45-inch 1400x720px LCD and features an Unisoc SC9832E chipset with a quad-core 1.3GHz processor and 2GB of RAM to paint an entry-level picture. The 16GB of storage can be expanded with a microSD card. The Meizu C9 features a single snapper on each side - a 13MP f/2.2 rear camera and an 8MP f/2.2 selfie one. The battery has 3,000mAh capacity, which should last plenty long with the modest chipset and screen. Official Meizu C9 images The Meizu C9 runs Android 8.0...

Meizu 16th and Meizu M6T make their way in India

Meizu India had a massive event today, bringing the Meizu 16th and Meizu M6T to the Indian market. Meizu 16 The Meizu 16th is actually a new name for the Meizu 16 China, while the company is trying to position the less powerful Meizu 16X as Meizu 16 on the global scene. And yes, it's really confusing, but the 16X is not coming to India at this point so it should be easier to make sense of it all. Either way, the Meizu 16th has a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage and fancy 12 MP + 20 MP rear camera setup. It also arrives with in-display fingerprint...

New vivo NEX 2 leaked images reveal the secondary screen

The Chinese company vivo is planning to launch the NEX 2 in the following days, and even though we don't have an official confirmation, all signs lead to the date December 11. That's when we expect to see the dual screen device officially, but as usual in the smartphone business, live photos were leaked ahead of schedule, leaving nothing to the imagination. The user and tech blogger in China ophone8 posted plenty of photos of the vivo NEX 2 in two colors, showing its two sides, and there's even a shot where the back is compared to the vivo NEX S. vivo NEX 2 Although the...
