Another nubia Z18 camera sample appears online

The nubia Z18 is finally arriving tomorrow after a turbulent period for the parent company ZTE. The phone should have a new generation of the borderless display, called Full Screen 3.0. The phone is expected to bring the latest nubia UI 6.0 version that will have 30s long exposure setting in the Camera Menu. The suggestion comes from a leaked camera sample on Weibo that was later reposted by Ni Fei, nubia CEO. ZTE nubia Z18 camera sample The image reveals a lot of noise and blur, meaning the device either wasn't properly mounted or nubia will use a mediocre sensor for the...

iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) leaks in CAD-based renders and video, lacks 3.5mm headphone jack

Apple is holding its annual fall launch event on September 12 this year. It's expected to unveil three new iPhones on that occasion, but some new iPads may join them too. One of these, the 2018 version of the iPad Pro 12.9, has been leaked today through CAD-based renders and a video. The renders show a tablet with symmetrical screen bezels on all four sides, rounded display corners, and no Home button anywhere. The removal has to do with the fact that this iPad will employ Face ID technology for unlocking, just like the iPhone X (and all three 2018 iPhones). iPad Pro 12.9...

Sony Xperia XZ3 has 6GB of RAM in Taiwan

Sony's latest high-end Android smartphone is the Xperia XZ3, officially introduced at IFA last week. The model announced there comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage, but things will be different in one particular market. We're talking about Taiwan. Sony's official Taiwanese spec page for the XZ3 clearly states it has 6GB of RAM, confirming various reports from local media. For now it's unclear if this 6GB version of the XZ3 is headed anywhere else. Also a mystery is why the company didn't mention the two separate memory tiers at the phone's unveiling. That said, this...

Samsung may let you disable the Galaxy Note9's Bixby button by the end of the month

The Galaxy Note9 ships with Samsung's Bixby 2.0, and this newest version of the virtual assistant doesn't let you fully disable the very controversial Bixby button that sits on the left side of the device underneath the volume keys. That may however change, and pretty soon - by the end of this month, in fact. Through a Twitter exchange between a concerned Note9 user and Samsung's arm in Germany we find out that the company is apparently preparing a software update that will let you fully disable the Bixby key. This is said to be released (at least in Germany) by the end of September. If...

Huawei's very cheap Honor 7s launches in India today

At 2 PM today, on September 4, the Honor 7s will officially make its debut in India. This smartphone from Huawei's sub-brand was first released in Pakistan back in May. In the meantime we've also seen it in the UK. It's an entry-level smartphone so it's expected to be very cheap in India, like it is in the other markets where it's available. Rumor has it that you'll need to pay INR 8,399 for a unit (that's about $117 or €101). The Honor 7s has a 5.45-inch 720x1440 18:9 touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera, a 5 MP selfie snapper, and a 3,020 mAh battery. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo with...

Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 possibly benchmarked, matches Apple's A11 Bionic

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 chipset powers pretty much every flagship Android device that isn't made by Huawei or Samsung this year, but it is pretty old at this point, launching on the Galaxy S9 this spring. Its successor, tentatively called Snapdragon 855, may have just been benchmarked inside a development board. The Geekbench listing doesn't give us the chipset's name, only its codename - "msmnile". It was paired with 6GB of RAM on the test device, which ran Android 9 Pie. Its multi-core result of 10,469 matches what Apple's A11 Bionic SoC usually manages to accomplish. That's what...

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3's slide-out camera allegedly shown on video (but there's a catch)

After Honor teased the Magic 2 with a pop-up camera, Xiaomi's co-founder was quick to reveal that the Mi Mix 3 will have a similar design, both taking after the Oppo Find X. That may not be the whole story, however. A short video that shows a Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 being handled reveals that the mechanism is manual. It appears to be a slider design with the bottom "half" sliding up to reveal the earpiece, selfie camera and other gadgetry. That's not how the Find X camera works, that one is motorized. But this could be the more reliable design in the long run. Of course, we're still not...

Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL pass through NCC a month before launch

The Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL cleared the FCC a few days ago and have now have passed through the NCC as well. This is a formality a device needs to go through before going on sale and the fact that Google's already going through it suggests that the market launch will come very shortly after its announcement. At this point there are few things that haven't leaked about the pair of Pixel 3 phones. A Pixel 3 XL goes on camera every day now. The purported date for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL's announcement has been set for October 9 by which time we expect a heap of other...

Android 9.0 Pie open beta now available for the OnePlus 6

The Android 9.0 Pie open beta for the OnePlus 6 is now live. You can manually download and install the update, although it's not quite ready yet. Here's what works. The update revamps the interface to match Pie, including enabling the new gesture navigation. The original Oreo software had gestures already, but they were different from the Android Pie gestures. Anyway, Do Not Disturb now has adjustable settings and Game Mode has been updated to version 3.0 (with text notification mode). Now, here's what doesn't work. You can't use Google Pay and the Play Store may complain that the...

Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) is first in its family to get Oreo

It's no secret that Samsung's mid-range devices don't get a ton of love when it comes to after-sales support. The Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) may break that mold by becoming the first of the J-series to get not one but two major OS updates after its release. The phone originally launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, was later updated to 7.0 Nougat and should get 8.0 Oreo in December. This is months earlier than early information suggested. The Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) (also originally with Marshmallow) is also set to receive Oreo in December (but the 7.0" model will die on 5.1...

Nubia Red Magic 2 rumored to come with shoulder buttons

According to leakster Roland Quandt, nubia is working on a new gaming smartphone to succeed the current nubia Red Magic. The new device will reportedly run a Snapdragon 845 CPU and will feature shoulder buttons to improve the gameplay experience. Nubia Redmagic actually seems pretty nice for 449 Euro with SDM835, 8/128GB and all the other fancy stuff. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 will support 5G networks

Xiaomi co-founder and president Lin Bin has been taunting other brands (and teasing consumers) with how awesome the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is going to be. First the Oppo Find X-like pop-up camera now 5G support. His latest photo shows the phone with its status bar reading "5G". The phone is in front of what appears to be a 5G testing station, "NR5G" refers to to the 5G New Radio standard, which encompass the sub-6GHz and mmWave technologies. The N257 band specifically is in the 28GHz band, so it's mmWave tech (the faster, but shorter range of the two technologies). Qualcomm already has two...

Razer is working on a second phone

Razer's financial report for the first half of 2018 attributes $16.5 million in revenue to the Razer Phone. That's apparently enough to start development on the sequel. Not just a phone, the company will focus on bringing more of its software offerings from PC to mobile. Razer has optimization software (Cortex), 7.1 channel surround sound virtualization and, of course, a couple of apps to tune its RGB-laden accessories. But Razer also runs an online game store and offers virtual currency (zGold and zSilver) that can be used to buy full games or as in-game currency. The company also...

Samsung smartphone with four cameras coming this year

Samsung may be readying a device with four cameras on the back and it won't be a Galaxy Note nor a Galaxy S (nor the foldable Galaxy F) phone. The information comes from Twitter user and popular leakster Ice universe. In his tweet Ice universe makes clear we're talking about a device that will launch in 2018 with four cameras, although no details were provided. SamsungCamera Camera Camera Camera— Ice universe (@UniverseIce) September 2, 2018 So, what could it be? If we had to guess we would take a pick among Samsung's A series and say that it could be a Galaxy A9 device for 2019...

Four days ahead of the event we already knew the phone is going to be a Flipkart Exclusive, and now the time has come for its actual market launch. Tomorrow at noon the Realme 2 will be available for purchase in Diamond Red and Diamond Black at the online retailer. Announced with a Snapdragon 450 chipset, the Oppo Realme 2 is aiming to disrupt the affordable market. It comes with 3/32 GB or 4/64 GB memory combo and a basic 13 MP + 2 MP main camera setup. The selfie snapper is 8...

The vivo X23's dual camera will have a wide-angle lens

The vivo X23 announcement draws near (it will be on September 6) and each day we get more and more details, often from an official source. The latest is for the dual camera. The secondary cam will have a wide-angle lens, meaning that unlike the similar Oppo F9, the X23 will actually have a useful dual camera setup. A 13MP sensor will sit behind that lens. The vivo X23's dual camera will have a wide-angle lens The primary cam will use a 12MP Sony IMX363 according to a leaked slide, a module we've seen in premium phones like the Xiaomi Mi 8 and vivo NEX S. So, the dual camera...

Honor 8X appears on TENAA with 6.5" screen

Honor 8X is arriving alongside its bigger sibling Honor 8X Max. While we already saw leaked promo images of the big device with its humongous 7.12" screen, the vanilla 8X was yet to be seen in an official listing. Back in the middle of August we thought it was already on TENAA, but that turned out to be the Honor 8X Max, and only now is the regular 8X making it to the Chinese regulatory with smaller screen and battery.
