New HTC U11 variant spotted on GFXBench with 6-inch 18:9 display

Just as the device appeared on popular benchmarking app - GeekBench, HTC's unannounced device has also appeared on GFXBench, complete with some new information about the display. Rumors point to an HTC U11 ‘Plus' model running the latest version of Android - 8.0 Oreo. There's also going to be a 6-inch display with a 1440 x 2880 px resolution, which calculates to a taller 18:9 display. This could be HTC's re-release of the HTC U11 with a display that fills out body and reduces the size of the bezels. Considering that the LG V30 shares an identically-sized footprint to the HTC...

Sony Xperia XZ Premium gets Oreo in December, red version launches in Japan

Sony's Xperia XZ Premium will receive the update to Android 8.0 Oreo in December. That's at least true for units sold in Japan, the company's home country, since that's where the information comes from. In other parts of the globe, the rollout may start sooner than that, or later. This should however give you a very rough estimate of when to expect the first XZ Premiums to run the latest iteration of Google's OS. In other news related to the Xperia XZ Premium, Sony has officially announced the red color version for this smartphone today. This was first spotted back in May, and we haven't...

Microsoft Lumia 640 and 640 XL won't receive the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

Microsoft may not be actively developing new features for Windows 10 Mobile anymore, as recently confirmed by an exec, but the company is still supporting some older Windows phones with bug fixes, security updates, and minor improvements here and there. The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, which started rolling out to PCs yesterday, is one such iterative release for smartphones. However, there are two handsets that will never see this version of the OS making it to them: the Lumia 640 and 640 XL. Microsoft has decided to end software support for the duo with the Fall Creators Update...

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 visits Geekbench with Snapdragon 617

Xiaomi has always offered great bang for the buck, so it's exciting to see hints of the Redmi Note 5, which combines two current flagship trends - 18:9 bezel-less screen and dual cameras. Better yet, rumors hint at a Snapdragon 660 chipset - a "lite" version of the flagship 835 SoC. A Geekbench 4 result potentially sours the inflow of rumors - it lists a Qualcomm MSM8952 chipset, aka Snapdragon 617. Well, eight Cortex-A53 cores at a low clock speed are no match for eight Kryo cores. Not to mention the aging GPU... There's hope, however, it seems that Geekbench messed up the chipset...

BlackBerry Motion arrives for £399 in the UK, €469 rest of Europe

2017 is the year BlackBerry is trying to make a return under new management, and so far we've seen three phones introduced - the Keyone, the Aurora and the latest from last week, called BlackBerry Motion. The Motion costs around $460 in its debut Middle East region, but now we know the price for Europe as well. A UK retailer is offering the phone for £399, while in the Netherlands the initial asking price is €469. UK stock is expected "by the end of October" so very shortly. The BlackBerry Motion comes with 24 months warranty across all EU. It comes in Black, and the memory...

Xiaomi Mi A1 gets another update, still not Oreo

Xiaomi Mi A1 is the lovechild of Xiaomi and Google in the quest for a good Android One smartphone. It comes with stock Android, and both companies promised the phone will get Android Oreo "soon". An update arrived just today, but apparently, it is only an October 2017 security patch. The latest update is said to improve security and fix bugs. It also brings more stability to the device and optimizes the Mi A1's performance. The size of the update is 118 MB, and all Mi A1 owners should already be receiving it. Most manufacturers, including Samsung, Lenovo, and Essential, promised...

HTC U11 Plus makes an appearance on Geekbench with Android 8.0

A mysterious HTC device has just popped up on Geekbench's website with a Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB of RAM and running Android 8.0.0 Oreo. Our best guess is that this is the HTC U11 Plus, which entered the rumor mill a few days ago when a press invite for an HTC event on November 2 was leaked. The score recorded by the unnamed HTC smartphone falls within expectations for a Snapdragon 835 device and is around the same as that of the U11. What stands out the most is the 4GB of RAM - the HTC U11 comes with 4GB as standard with a 6GB model being sold in certain markets like the US....

Huawei Mate 10 Pro vs. Mate 9 camera shootout

Huawei announced its highly anticipated Mate 10 series on Monday and new phablets will launch soon with new design and may upgrades, but the so-called artificial intelligence a.k.a. machine learning got most of the spotlight. Yet, the Mate 10 and 10 Pro have an updated Dual Camera powered by Leica and Huawei. It uses the same sensors as the Mate 9, but those sit behind brighter f/1.6 lenses. The camera app has also learned some new tricks - using the new NPU inside the Kirin 970 chip it can identify up to 14 different scenes and automatically adjust the parameters to produce better...

Serious iOS 11 bug allows unauthorized access to your photos

A new vulnerability has been found on iOS 11 and it appears to affect all iDevices running the latest version of the software. Using a few easy steps anyone can access the photos on a device running the public iOS 11.0.3 or the beta iOS 11.1. The flaw was seemingly discovered by the YouTube channel iDeviceHelp. You need to know the phone number inside of the iPhone (which can be easily found through Siri), call it and then repeat a few steps from the lock screen. Apple will likely release an update shortly to patch this up and while the bug isn't likely to be discovered by...

Interestingly, the listing also reveals two new variants for the Mate 10: one with 4GB/32GB memory, and the other with 6GB/128GB memory. At the unveiling, Huawei said the Mate 10 only comes in 4GB/64GB memory configuration, so it's possible that the...
