Google's Nest division has got a new Director of Security and Privacy in Adrian Ludwig, who has been working as director of Android security until now. The announcement was made by Ludwig himself in a Google+ post. Over the last month, I've taken on a new role at Alphabet as Director of Security and Privacy for Nest. Ludwig has been working with the Android security team for over 6 years now. He has been replaced by Dave Kleidermacher, who has previously been associated with BlackBerry as the Chief Security Officer, but joined Google last year. Source | Via

Google Pixel 2 XL long-term review
This long-term review is going to take a deeper dive into what it's like to actually live with the Pixel 2 XL, as the main and only phone, for a few weeks (three, to be precise). We'll try to answer the questions you might have about the device, regarding things that aren't covered in our proper review. For example, can you actually get used to that screen? Learn to enjoy it even? Is the Pixel 2 XL a huge improvement over its predecessor? Does it really take such amazing pictures? (OK, so you probably know the answer to the last one). We'll also cover how easy it is to set up and let you know about any niggles and issues we've encountered in day to day use. Let's jump in and find out if the Pixel 2 XL really is worth your hard earned cash.
LG V30 drops to $674.99 unlocked, $150 off
Little more than one month - that's how long the price of the unlocked LG V30 in the US managed to stay at or around the recommended level. The carrier-free version of the Korean company's latest flagship smartphone made its debut on December 1, with a recommended sales price of $824.99, yet starting at $819.99 in some places. Today you can purchase an unlocked V30 from B&H for only $674.99. You will have to live with the Cloud Silver color version, because that's the only one on offer for this price. Still, you're saving a cool $150 compared to the normal price, and doing so quite soon...
LG teases 2018 TV range with built-in Google Assistant
LG announced today that its 2018 lineup of OLED and SUPER UHD TVs will include Google Assistant in some regions. With this, customers will be able to interact with some of their smart home devices by speaking into the TVs remote. However, the Google Assistant is more of an accompaniment to the primary voice AI on these TVs, which will be LG's own ThinQ AI. Using a Natural Language Processing (NLP) and LG's own deep learning technology, users will be able to interact with all the other ThinQ enabled LG devices in their homes, connect to peripherals, search for content and more on...
Fake Samsung Galaxy S9+ handled on video
Well, this is ahead of schedule - the Samsung Galaxy S9+ just appeared in a short hands-on video. And it's a fully working unit too... though we have a sneaking suspicion it's a copycat rather than the genuine article. There's not much to say about the front - it's dominated by an Infinity Display as expected. But it's not centered, the bottom bezel is thicker than the top one. And what's with the chunky Power button? The app drawer is even more telling - there's an FM radio app for one, which the original will (sadly) lack. Not to mention that there's no Galaxy Apps shortcut. And S...
Teaser for Sandstone OnePlus 5T lists loving quotes from fans
The Sandstone material is iconic to OnePlus fans - it was one of the unique feature of the original OnePlus One. While the company dropped it in favor of metal since the OnePlus 3, it is making a comeback - in just 2 days! Sure, there have been cases for the OnePlus 3/3T and the 5/5T, but on January 5 fans will get the real deal - a OnePlus 5T with a Sandstone back. The traditional graphite color may give way to white, however. To remind you why Sandstone is so important, the company tweeted this video with quotes by fans sharing their love of the grippy material. Some even go as far...
Samsung Galaxy A8 and A8+ 2018 to allegedly go on sale in India on January 10
According to a report by PhoneRadar, the new 2018 Samsung Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8+ are set to be launched in India on Wednesday, January 10. As of yet, Samsung India has not confirmed any availability or pricing information regarding these two devices, nor have we seen any teasers from any of the online retailers. The 2018 Galaxy A8 and A8+ are the latest in Samsung's range of premium mid-range devices. Slotted just below the Galaxy S series, the A-series devices give their customers some of the premium materials and performance of the more expensive segment without costing a...
OnePlus 5 Oreo update roll out has been cancelled
The OnePlus 3/3T Oreo update was pulled by the company following user complaints, and it's sad to see that Oreo roll out for the OnePlus 5 has also met the same fate. Yes, the Chinese company has provided a heads-up saying the roll out has been canceled. Here's what exactly a OnePlus staff member said on the company's official forums: Because of a bug on Oxygen 5.0, we have cancelled its global release. And we're preparing for Oxygen 5.0.1, the partial release will go alive soon. So yeah, while the company did concede there's a bug that prompted them to cancel the roll out, there's...
Lava Red OnePlus 5T sold out in second flash sale
OnePlus announced the 5T in Lava Red color exclusively for the Chinese market. It got sold out instantly in the first flash sale on December 17 and the same thing happened today at the second one. The company is expected to push another bunch of sexy red OnePlus 5T devices on January 9 at 10:00. The OnePlus 5T in Lava Red does not differ a lot from the original Midnight Black version. It has Snapdragon 835 with octa-core CPU and a dual camera on the back with a 16 MP + 20 MP setup. Since this color of the 5T is currently only offered in China, it comes with Hydrogen OS, instead of...
Samsung Galaxy J2 (2018) spotted on official website
The Samsung Galaxy J2 (2018) isn't official in the traditional sense of the world, but accessories for it are up on Samsung's site - complete with several images of the phone. The page obviously focuses on cases rather than the phone's specs but we have info from earlier leaks. The 2018 edition of the J2 will come in at least Black and Gold colors, which you can liven up with a variety of cases. In terms of specs, we're looking at a 5" SuperAMOLED screen (540 x 960px) and an entry-level Snapdragon 425 chipset (running Android 7.1 Nougat). Keep in mind that this will cost around...
LG will rename the G-series starting with the phone formerly known as LG G7
LG is reportedly planning to rejigger its flagship naming scheme - there will be no "LG G7". Instead, the company will choose a new name for its early 2018 flagship, claims an LG official quoted by Digital Daily. The G-series traces its roots back to 2012's Optimus G, a name that was simplified to LG G2 for the sequel. Four generations later, this is coming to an end. The final name has not been decided yet. "Numbering the phone with a two-digit number and rebranding the phone with a new name are some of the options on the table". What does that mean for the LG V30 successor?...

Huawei P20 schematics show three models, one with a screen notch
Unconfirmed schematics reveal what could be Huawei's plan for the P10 successor. It won't be called P11 for one, it will be the Huawei P20 and it will come in three versions (at least). And the top model of the three will sport a notch, similar to the iPhone X. Its screen bezels are nearly non-existent, all except the bottom one are razor thin. The fingerprint reader is on the back, below the camera (more on that in a second). And the top bezel features a notch to accommodate the earpiece, selfie camera and sensors. Huawei has already demoed its own FaceID-like tech (that will be better...
Spotify facing a $1.6B copyright lawsuit
The music platform Spotify was hit with a copyright lawsuit by Wixen Music, the music publisher of artists such as Tom Petty, Neil Young, and The Doors. According to the plaintiff, the damages are worth at least $1.6 billion along with injunctive relief. Wixen is the current license holder for tracks such as "Light My Fire" by The Doors and "Free Fallin" by Tom Petty. The company alleges that Spotify outsourced its work to a third party licensing and royalty services provider the Harri Fox Agency, which was "ill-equipped to obtain all the necessary mechanical licenses". Later...

First render of HTC U12 reveals full-screen display
The early days of the New Year are typically fruitful for new leaks and 2018 won't make an exception. HTC is expected to launch two devices in the first quarter, with one of them being a new flagship named U12. Its first alleged render surfaced, revealing a massive display, that some rumors even say will have 4K resolution and no bezels from three sides. The image reveals the phone will have a power button and a volume rocker on the right side. The USB port is the only thing on the bottom, while a 3.5 mm audio jack is missing, as is tradition with latest HTC phones. The...
New vivo X20 Plus gets certified, might feature under-screen fingerprint scanner
A vivo X20 Plus variant has recently received 3C certification in China. The listing reveals 'vivo X20 Plus UD' moniker. The 'UD' part in the moniker has triggered speculations that this might be the first phone to feature an under-screen fingerprint scanner. Of course, nothing is confirmed at the moment, meaning 'UD' could turn out to be referring to something completely different. But we already know vivo will be the first to launch a phone with under-display sensor and a new version of its flagship seems like a logical choice. The phone is coming at CES, which is less than a week...
Some Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ users reporting random screen wake-up issue
Recently, Samsung effectively acknowledged a battery issue with its Galaxy Note8 flagship. And now the company might be facing a problem with the Galaxy S8 and S8+ as some users report their units randomly wake up without being touched. Here's how an affected user explained the issue on Samsung's official forums: My new S8+ phone has started waking up from lock screen every 10 sec or so. I did factory reset but it did not fix the issue. This is really annoying. I did google search and it seems that others are also having similar problem. I tried to turn off everything in settings menu...
Samsung aiming to ship 320 million smartphones this year
According to a new report from South Korea, the company is aiming to sell 320 million smartphones this year. Other targets include 40 million feature phones, 20 million tablet units, and 5 million wearables. It's worth mentioning that Samsung's 2018 sales goal for smartphones is similar to what the company achieved in 2017. The report says that's largely due to saturation in the smartphone market. While the figure may not have increased, it's should still allow Samsung to retain its lead in the smartphone market. Apple and Huawei, sold around 200 million and 150 million smartphones,...
