Weighing in at 167MB, the update brings along Android Nougat (version 7.0), and is currently hitting units that were part of the company's Galaxy Beta Program. T-Mobile and AT&T have already rolled out the update. Via
Reliance Jio crosses 100 million subscribers, announces new plan for Prime members
India's Reliance Jio, which deployed the country's largest 4G-only network last year, has announced that it crossed 100 million in the 170 days since its launch. Customers have since then used more than an exabyte (1000 petabytes) of data every month. This is because Jio has had free 4G data since launch, which was initially truly unlimited, then capped to 4GB per day and now down to 1GB per day. This is part of the Jio New Year Offer, which is valid till March 31, 2017, which provided users with free 4G data. Jio has already announced tariff plans that will come into effect from...

It's called Honor V9, and it's the new flagship offering from Huawei's online-only sub-brand. The Honor V9 was unveiled at an event in China today, just as expected. It comes with a 5.7-inch QHD LTPS LCD touchscreen, and dual 12 MP + 12 MP f/2.2 cameras on the back (one sensor is monochrome like in all of Huawei's dual arrangements) with laser autofocus, LED flash, and 4K video capture. For selfies there's an 8 MP f/2.0...
HTC 10 evo review: The sea dragon
Good marketing is vital for a successful product. The HTC Bolt had a winning sales pitch - gold medal winning, that is. With Usain Bolt, the world-famous sprinter, advertising this phone for Sprint, it was an ad exec's dream come true. But what of the HTC 10 evo? It's the same hardware, but without the star power.
Samsung's C-Lab to introduce AR and VR projects at MWC
Samsung's in-house tech incubator C-Lab introduced a smart strap that turns your fingerprint into a phone earpiece. Now there are four new projects that are here to amuse us and they are all about augmented and virtual reality. Relumino is an app for Gear VR that helps the visually impaired to have better experience with video and images with new levels of clarity that tackle all common sight issues. Monitorless is a pair of sunglasses that support augmented reality as well as virtual reality. They connect to your phone and you can use them while you are playing games, drawing or...

You will get to unlock your Windows 10 PC with a Galaxy fingerprint
Samsung introduced the ability to unlock its Windows 10-powered tablet Galaxy TabPro S with the Flow app for Android last year. You just use your fingerprint on your Galaxy smartphone and the tablet unlocks. According to sources Samsung will launch this feature available across all Windows 10 PCs with the Windows 10 Creators Update. There hasn't been an official date, but it should come sometime in April. Samsung are already using the Windows Hello framework so an expansion across devices is widely expected and logical to come next. Via
Gionee confirms "selfie-centric" A1 and A1 Plus reveal at MWC
Gionee has officially confirmed that it will launch the Gionee A1 and Gionee A1 Plus smartphones at the Mobile World Congress in 2017. The devices promises excellent battery life, "a sensational" selfie camera and a dual cameras on the back. The company talks so much about the frontal so we prefer not to name any of them a "main" one. Leaked Gionee A1 photo The Gionee A1 and A1 Plus will offer a few nice selfie features - you will be able to tinker with the lighting effects of the front camera. Gionee also said the duo will come with ultrafast charging via dual charging chips...
Acer will bring several Android phones and a wearable to the MWC
Acer is bringing "a couple of new phones" and "a wearable" to the MWC, but the company has tempered expectations. In an interview, Acer EMEA President Emmanuel Fromon spoke at length about the PC industry (especially gaming), but had little to say about portable devices. The phones will run Android, though Fromon says the company has "no market share ambition." Only the leaders in the phone business make money and Acer would rather focus on other segments. The company is not impressed with how its Windows 10 Mobile phones performed and will take the "wait and see" approach with the...
Huawei nova lite goes official, buts it's quite the familiar face
We're not saying Huawei's naming convention is a complete mess, but Huawei's naming convention is a complete mess. What was announced as the Huawei P8 lite (2017), and is also available in China (and, of all places, in Finland?) as the Honor 8 Lite, has now been launched in Japan as the Huawei nova lite. The nova lite, being practically identical to the P8 lite (2017), is built around a 5.2-inch FullHD IPS display. The in-house Kirin 655 chipset is on the inside, with a octa-core CPU in charge of doing the number crunching in a 4x2.1GHz + 4x1.7GHz Cortex-A53 config. There is 3GB of...

Live images of Samsung Galaxy S8 leak
Samsung Galaxy S8 has one month in rumorland before we see the real device on March 29. Until then we can rely solely on leaks like this one. A Chinese case manufacturer leaked live photos of the next Samsung flagship. From the images we see the device will have dual-curved display. On the top of the front panel there are plenty of sensors and cameras and we even see an iris-scanner. On the bottom we see 3.5mm jack, USB-C and a speaker, possibly by Harman. The most interesting part is the powered display with the contextual Grace UX menu. Looks like Galaxy S8 will not have...
Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa available for pre-order in UK
Amazon launched its voice-activated Fire TV Stick in the US back in October. It costs $39 and has a button for voice control to ask Alexa to do things for you. Now the company has announced that starting April 3 everyone in Great Britain will also be able to get it, although at the substantially higher £40 price. Amazon Fire TV Stick has a quad-core processor which makes the device 30% faster than its predecessor and better interface. Sadly it doesn't support 4K - if you have an UHD TV you have to dig deeper into your pocket for an Amazon Fire TV. The voice-activated service...
Report says refurbished Samsung Galaxy Note7 units will go on sale this June
Back in September, there were reports that Samsung could bring back the ill-fated Galaxy Note7 to the market in refurbished form. Now, a new report from South Korea is confirming that's going to be the case. Refurbished Galaxy Note7 units will hit the market as early as June this year, and will be available in emerging markets such as India and Vietnam. These units will have "a new smaller battery and outer shell," report says, adding that "other key parts are also likely to be replaced." The tech giant announced the outcome of its Note7 investigation last month, blaming the phone's...
JD.com lists Nokia 8, with price and questionable images
File this one under "highly doubtful", but JD.com (the biggest e-tailer in China and Nokia'a exclusive partner for the Nokia 6 launch) put up a listing for the Nokia 8. Fool us once... The 3D-render in particular seems more like a fan-made concept. Still, the price of CNY 3,188 (around $460) seems about right as the Nokia 6 goes for CNY 2,300 or so. Currently, the JD page shows only the most basic specifications - an Android phone with a metal frame and LTE connectivity. Nokia 8 image by JD.com Some hard to verify rumors point to a 5.7" Super AMOLED screen (QHD resolution), 24MP...
LG Display to start shipping LCD panels to Samsung this July
After Foxconn acquired Sharp, the Japanese screen manufacturer notified Samsung that it will stop deliveries of its LCD panels, instead focusing on its own Sharp Aquos TVs. Surprisingly, Samsung Electronics turned to rival LG Display and the two have now worked out a deal - LG will start shipping TV LCD panels to Samsung in July. This was confirmed by LG Display CEO Han Sang-beom. This would be a first - one of the Korean giants using panels manufactured by the other. Samsung makes its own panels, but is in the process of switching over to the new QLED technology. Coincidentally,...

The variant comes in coral blue with extra battery pack and protective case, and costs CNY1,299/$189. Via
