This morning, the Economic Times reports that ZTE has begun trial testing in India for 5G technology. The report cites that India's top telecom companies like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, and Reliance Jio have been working with Chinese telecom equipment and smartphone manufacturer ZTE. India is one of the largest global wireless markets and one that has plenty of room for expansion. Fan Xiaobing, president of global marketing and solutions for ZTE told Economic Times: India is a very important market for us. Telecom industry is all about scale, and India offers scale. Indian telecom...

Google releases October security update for Pixels and Nexuses
If you own a Nexus or Pixel, you know what the first Monday of the month means: a new security update. It's no different this time around: right on schedule, Google has made the October security patches available to the devices it supports directly. The factory images and full OTA zip files are up for grabs from the usual official website, catering to tinkerers. For normal people, the over-the-air rollout of the update is already underway. As usual with Google rollouts, it's probably going to take a couple of weeks for all devices to receive the update notification. If you simply...
Sony Xperia XZ1 lands in Canada on October 26
While it's already received its first price cut in the US, the Sony Xperia XZ1 hasn't gone on sale in Canada yet. That's about to change by the end of this month, however. The XZ1 will officially become available up north on October 26. You'll be able to purchase one from Bell or Freedom Mobile if you're into grabbing your handsets straight from carriers. If you'd rather go the contract-free, unlocked unit route, we assume Amazon will have some in stock too. Pricing hasn't been announced yet unfortunately, but given the fact that it launched in the US costing $699, be prepared to...
Apple iPhone 8 review
This should have been a 7S. That simple. But it's complicated. Too complicated perhaps for Apple as we used to know it.
Facebook Messenger Lite arrives in the US, UK, Canada, and Ireland
The Facebook Messenger Lite app for Android is now available in the US, UK, Canada, and Ireland. This will be very good news for those who are annoyed at the sheer number of features packed into the 'normal' Messenger app, but still need to use this platform for communication. Messenger Lite started off as a project meant to be released in a handful of developing (and mobile data-starved) countries. Hence, it was built with a focus on operating with as few resources as possible, including on the phone hardware side. But it caught on with people from across the world, who started installing...
Google Pixel 2 XL leaks in a case, showing trimmed bezels, stereo front speakers
Google's hardware unveiling event is in just two days, on October 4. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise at all that the Pixel 2 XL which will be introduced on that occasion has been leaked today. What is different this time around is that we get to see its front, even though the handset is shown inside a case. So far, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL leaks have focused more on the backs of the two devices, but today's leak comes to confirm the much-rumored smaller bezels for the bigger Pixel 2 XL. They are still there, but definitely much less noticeable than in its predecessor, the Pixel XL...
Deal: Sony Xperia XZ1 gets its firsts discount in the US
Amazon US has cut the asking price of the Sony Xperia XZ1 from $699 to $649. The discount concerns the Black and Moonlit Blue Xperia XZ1's while the Venus Pink and Warm Silver editions are still at their original $699 level. That starting price was considered steep given the Xperia XZ1's unimpressive on-paper specs - the 5.2-inch 1080p screen that's neither AMOLED nor bezelless, the smallish battery and the lack of a fingerprint scanner for the US market. If those "faults" don't bother you the Xperia XZ1 is still a solid smartphone that's highlighted by a capable high-res camera...
HMD will update the current Nokia phones to Android P
HMD will update the current Nokia roster to Android 8.0 Oreo but the company has committed to do more than that - it will update these phones to Android P as well (the next major Android version). All the current Nokias launched on Nougat and will live to see two major OS updates. That's better than many Androids get, especially on the lower rungs of the ladder where the Nokia 3 lives. We guess those are the advantages of running near-stock Android - HMD doesn't have to do as much to push out the update. Anyway, HMD's Chief Technology Officer has commented that the company is open...
You can now buy the colorful OnePlus 5 JCC+ in Europe
The limited edition OnePlus 5 JCC+ is now on sale in Europe. The phone has a custom inscription on the back as well as a blue power button, yellow sound switch and red volume rocker, made in collaboration with famous designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. Underneath the fresher uniform this is a top of the line 8GB + 128GB OnePlus 5 and is priced the same - not a penny over the "regular" OnePlus 5 - 559 / £499. OnePlus 5 JCC+ If you want the limited OnePlus 5 JCC+ you'd better hurry as stock will be much lower than the regular unit. Source | Via
Huawei Mate 10 may cost over 900
According to a report from France, the Huawei Mate 10 will have a DeX-like feature - a mode that turns the new Kirin 970-powered flagship into a full-blown desktop. Allegedly, this will be done via a DisplayPort connection coming out of the USB-C port and being relayed by a dock. Curiously, this may support any DisplayPort dock, not just the Huawei-made one. A recent promo was promising that the Mate 10 is not a smartphone but an "intelligent machine" instead. Anyway, such goodness will not come cheap, we hear. Early (perhaps inaccurate) indications are that the Mate 10 Pro will cost...
Sony announces updated PlayStation VR headset
Just a year after its launch, Sony has launched an updated version of the PlayStation VR system with a couple of small but important changes. First the headphone cable is now integrated within the headset itself, and runs cleanly along the back of the headset so it doesn't dangle around you as with the previous design. Next, the Processor Unit has been redesigned. This is the box that connects the PlayStation 4 to the VR headset and the TV. The updated version supports HDR pass through so you no longer have to unplug your console from the box and plug directly into the TV anymore...
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Prime certified in the US
A Xiaomi device that looks like the Redmi Note 5A Prime and carrying the model number MDG6S, made an appearance in the United States' Federal Communications Commission, which could signal Xiaomi's official arrival in the States. So far the only way to have a Xiaomi smartphone in the States is to import it. US Mobile used to offer Xiaomi phones unofficially but it doesn't anymore. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Prime at the FCC The phone in the FCC listing is likely the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Prime, which is official outside of the US. It has a 5.5-inch 720p IPS LCD, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of...
Promo video shows how cool iPhone's Portrait Mode would have looked for videos
Apple posted a video dubbed "Portraits of Her", which promotes the new and improved Portrait mode of the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X, specifically the cool Portrait Lighting feature. But the video shows the effect done on video - something the actual iPhones can't pull off. It does look quite cool though, maybe we'll see something similar in future iPhones. At any rate, it was cool to see what this feature could do in motion. Source
Deal: iPhone 7 prices drop in the US
Not impressed with the iPhone 8? Then how about a good deal on an iPhone 7 - a 256GB model for $600. Apple no longer offers those, but it would charge you $650 for the 128GB model. This deal comes courtesy of T-Mobile USA. If you prefer to get the phone on a 24-month credit, then you can pay $25 a month (assuming a good credit rating). Note that only Jet Black units are available. Still too expensive? Virgin Mobile drops the 7 to $450 and the iPhone 6s to $350. It goes without saying that the phones are locked to their respective carriers, so that's something to consider. Check the...
Huawei Mate 10 Pro shows its colors, cameras
Welcome to your first real look at the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, courtesy of Evan Blass. We can see the near bezel-free front, the two Leica-branded snappers on the back as well as the phone's design and color scheme. Mind you, the Mate 10 Pro is only one of the upcoming versions - along with Lite, regular and Porsche edition. Image courtesy of Evan Blass If you zoom in on the image you can spot the f/1.6 aperture of the main camera. As for the strip that contains the camera equipment on the back, it has a lined pattern and could be glass. The brown color option is unique too. A...
Xiaomi celebrates 10 million phones shipped in September
Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun celebrated an important milestone - the company shipped over 10 million phones in September. This is the first time the company has shipped so many units in a single month. One in ten phones shipped last month were sold over the course of two days in India - the venerable Redmi Note 4 leading the charge. Both Flipkart and Amazon saw strong sales (boosted, undoubtedly, by Diwali). Xiaomi celebrates 10 million phones shipped in September This shows that the company is getting back on track after shipping 70 million phones in 2015 but dropping to 58 million in...
OnePlus 5T allegedly cancelled, OnePlus 6 to launch in early 2018
If you were holding out for a OnePlus 5T, perhaps you shouldn't - the rumor mill thinks that it's not happening. Instead, the launch of the OnePlus 6 has been pulled up to early 2018. Last year, the company launched the 3T as a way to switch to the +1 version of the chipset (Snapdragon 820 to 821) and to raise the price a bit. Well, they did upgrade the selfie cam too. This year, there will be no +1 for the Snapdragon 835 this year and OnePlus already played the dual camera card. Plus, it offers generous storage and RAM, so there's not much for a T version to upgrade. What will...
