The new phones and tablets of the week

We are sending away another exciting week where smartphone makers gave us plenty of intriguing new hardware. Some of the launches you've certainly followed, but here's the recap in case you've missed any. Xiaomi gave us the Mi 10T lineup, which consists of a Pro, vanilla and Lite versions. The first two only differ by their primary camera (108MP vs 64MP) and storage, while the Lite cuts a bunch more corners to achieve what is certainly a very attractive price. Then it was Google's turn to introduce its Fall lineup with the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5. There were hardly any surprises left...

Redmi Smart Band review

The Redmi Smart Band is the most affordable fitness tracker in Xiaomi's lineup. It makes a few compromises in terms of design and functionality but still offers a color touchscreen LCD, heart rate monitor, water-resistance, and customizable watch faces. The design of the Redmi Smart Band is extremely basic. The band has two matte silicone straps attached to the squared-off main module. Despite the blocky body, the band wraps around fairly well around your wrist with only some gap between your arm and the joints of the straps. The appearance of the band is rather pedestrian,...

Week 40 in review: Xiaomi Mi 10T line and Pixel 4a 5G and 5 are here

Welcome to another week's recap, let's get started. Google's fall lineup is now official and it's exactly what the rumors suggestsed. Google unveiled the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5, both with Snapdragon 765G chipsets, 128GB storage and three cameras - the stalwart 12.2MP main camera, a new 16MP ultrawide and an 8MP selfie camera. The Pixel 5 has a 6.0-inch OLED display, 4,080mAh battery, wireless charging and an IP68 rating for $700/€630/£599, while the Pixel 4a has a 3,885mAh battery and a larger 6.2-inch OLED display for $500/€500/£500. Both will go on sale on October 15. Xiaomi's Mi...

Huawei MateBook 14 2020 AMD review

Introduction Huawei has a quickly growing lineup of laptops that span its own brand as well as its sister brand Honor. Covering sizes from 13 to 16 inches, most of those laptops have 16:9 screens with the exception of the 3:2 aspect MateBook X and X Pro, and the star of this review - the MateBook 14 2020 AMD. You could have had a Huawei MateBook 14 2020 with a 10th gen quad-core Intel Core-i5 or Core-i7 for a while now, but the unit we have here is the new Ryzen-powered model, which is decidedly more exciting. The choice is between a six-core Ryzen 5 4600H, which we saw on the...

Top 10 trending phones of week 40

A couple of major events took place this week and unsurprisingly our trending chart felt the effect. The Pixel 5 emerged on top, while the Xiaomi Mi 10T and 10T Lite make up the other two podium positions in that order. Surprisingly enough, the 10T Pro didn't even crack the top 10. In fourth we have the iPhone 12 Pro Max, as you guys are clearly hotly anticipating its official debut. Two more upcoming phones follow - the Samsung Galaxy A72 and Poco C3 with the last one clearly picking up speed ahead of its launch next week. The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is shaping like a new crowd...

Realme Smart TV Review

Realme debuted as a smartphone brand back in May 2018, but it quickly expanded its ecosystem since, launching TWS earphones, wireless charger, power banks, fitness band, and even a smartwatch. The company also launched its first smart TV, simply called the Realme Smart TV, as it aims to bring more and more AIoT products to the market going forward as a part of its 1+4+N product strategy. The Realme Smart TV runs Android TV and comes in two sizes - 32" and 43" - having a resolution of 1366x768 and 1920x1080 pixels, respectively. Aside from the differences in screen size, resolution and...

Weekly poll: is the Pixel 5 or Pixel 4a 5G your next phone?

At $350, the Pixel 4a is a decently affordable phone – far from the best value-for-money, but competitive with the iPhone SE (2020). But will you really shell out $500/€500/£500 for the Pixel 4a 5G? Despite what the name makes it sound like, 5G is only one of the upgrades – the new model has a more powerful chipset (Snapdragon 765G vs. 730G), a larger screen (6.2” vs. 5.81”), an extra camera (16 MP ultra wide) and a larger battery (3,885 mAh vs. 3,140 mAh). Does the $150 surcharge feel worth it now? And what if we told you that in some (not all, but some) countries you will get a free...

Hot Take: Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G

After a lengthy courtship with leakers, the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G were finally officially announced by Google earlier this week. To say there was almost nothing that we didn't know already would be an understatement. However, despite our familiarity with what was going to be announced, there was still plenty to ponder over, and Google officially putting its seal of approval on top of it all makes it hard not to discuss it all. Simply put, the Pixel 4a 5G and especially the Pixel 5 aren't straightforward flagships that we have come to expect from Google. That may have something to...
