The 6.1-inch Apple iPhone renders leak - notched design and a single camera

A new leak gives us an early look at the rumored 6.1-inch iPhone that's going to be announced this September alongside a smaller 5.8-inch variant and a bigger 6.5-inch model. At first it was thought that all three will come with OLED panels, but the latest reports indicate that only two of them will feature OLED screens. The 6.1-inch model, which we will be discussing, will settle for the regular IPS LCD panel. 6.1-inch iPhone If the renders are to be believed, we see a very small change in the design compared to the current iPhone X. We've got a pronounced notched design,...

PNY unveils 512 GB microSD, will show it off at Computex

Integral unveiled a 512 GB microSD earlier this year, but some competition will be good. PNY has sent out invites for Computex 2018 and it will be showing a 512 GB card of its own. The card is UHS-I U1 and V10 rated, promising write speeds up to 90 MB/s. The PNY 512 GB microSD will cost $350, so it should be competitive with Integral's offering (available in the UK for £330). With such a capacity, you can store up to 100,000 18 MP photos or record up to 80 hours of 1080p video. PNY will also show off the Elite-X portable SSD, which will offer sequential speeds of 800 MB/s write and...

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 1000 chip may fight Intel in the ultrabook market

Yesterday we heard that Qualcomm is building a Snapdragon 850 chipset for ARM-powered Windows 10 laptops, but it won't stop there. The company is looking to hire people to work on Snapdragon 1000 chips, which will directly take on Intel's Core processors. As with the 850, they will use the larger physical size of laptops to push their TDP higher. A Snapdragon 845 tops out at around 5 W while the CPU of the 1000 chip alone will use 6.5 W. Taking the GPU into account, the final number will be higher. For comparison, a dual-core (quad thread) Pentium 4410Y is rated at 6 W and runs at...

Meanwhile, Chang Cheng, Lenovo's VP, shared some more teasers of the bezel-less phone on his Weibo profile. The metal rim of the phone is lined up similar to the digits 5 and 4,...

vivo NEX S is a toned-down version with Snapdragon 710, TENAA report confirms

Just the other day, the vivo NEX appeared on Geekbench with Snapdragon 710 contradicting the early reports and specs by vivo that listed the device with Snapdragon 845. This means only one thing, the vivo NEX will actually be a family of two devices - with SD845 and SD710. Thanks to the latest report from TENAA, we now know that the Snapdragon 710-powered variant will be named NEX S and will support dual-SIM. This would be a great compromise for people, who want to own the nearly bezel-free smartphone with super-cool selfie periscope, yet don't want to spend more than $1,000 on...

Information about the upcoming Motorola-branded smartphone is scarce up until now and we've only seen the phone in a leaked press image. Well, we've now got a few bigger pieces of the puzzle - sum specs and real life photo of a prototype. We haven't seen the device going through any kind of certification - FCC, TENAA, 3C have all been pretty silent for now. This means that the device won't launch very soon and won't be made available alongside the Moto Z3 Play on June 6. Meanwhile, a Twitter leakster with good track record with Motorola intel revealed most of the specs along with...

ARM unveils Cortex-A76 and Mali-G76 - higher performance, better power efficiency

Each year new flagships come out with new chipsets, which in turn require new cores. To that end, ARM unveiled a new big core - the Cortex-A76. And there's a new GPU too, the Mali-G76, along with a new video processor for the 8K future. Compared to a current Cortex-A75 (10 nm) running at 2.8 GHz, an A76 (7 nm) running at 3.0 GHz promises 35% higher performance and 40% better power efficiency. And since AI is trendy, the new CPU has nearly 4x improvement in speed when it comes to machine learning. Memory bandwidth is nearly double too.+ ARM is calling these "laptop-class" cores...

Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) plagued by loudspeaker cutouts

A troubling amount of reports have surfaced about an apparent issue with the Galaxy A8 (2018). Users in the Samsung forum are complaining about a strange loudspeaker sound cutout after the February update. The issue can be observed mostly when the phone is being charged, but not only. The cutoffs happen when listening on the loudspeaker only - be it a phone call, video, music or a ringtone. There are no cutoffs when using the earpiece, headphones or a Bluetooth speaker. Hardware resets and factory rests don't seem to help. Also, a user on the forum has concluded that the problem occurs...

Vivo is announcing NEX phone on June 12

Back in February at MWC, vivo showcased the APEX Concept Phone. Last week the manufacturer told us to mark June 12 on our calendars, and now we know why. The concept is turning into a mass-production smartphone, called vivo NEX. In a series of posts on the Chinese social media Weibo, vivo said the "pursuit of excellence never stops" and it is "creating a futuristic experience". The phone is likely to have no bezels and nearly 100% screen-to-body ratio. It will most likely have a fingerprint scanner under the display, and we also expect a selfie camera coming out of the top like a...

Oppo teases its future flagship Find X

We haven't seen an Oppo Find flagship since the spring of 2014, but after numerous leaks throughout the last four years, a new device is finally coming. The company confirmed on Weibo its future flagship will come as the Find X, and later the Indian Oppo division backed the info with a Twitter post. Although it is way too early to guess any specs or features, it is clear that Oppo will revive the Find series. Back in the day rumors suggested a bezel-less front, most powerful Snapdragon chipset and QHD screen. The last we heard of an Oppo Find smartphone was last year. The Find X...
