Google has confirmed that the Huawei-made Nexus 6P and LG-made Nexus 5X don't offer support for aptX Bluetooth streaming, a new feature that the company's upcoming mobile OS - Android O - offers. The confirmation came in the form a reply from a Google developer to a question put up by a user on the company's Issue Tracker website. Here's what the developer said: "Unfortunately, aptX and aptX HD are not supported on Nexus 6p and Nexus 5X - only on newer devices." For those who aren't aware, aptX is a proprietary streaming protocol currently owned by Qualcomm. In layman's terms, it...

Amazon Echo Speakers can now control your Fire TV
This is a feature first introduced with the Google Home. Asking Google to stream cat videos on your Chromecast is a pretty nifty feature. Amazon has caught up and will now let you do the same with any Fire TV devices you use to watch movies or stream TV shows. Amazon's Fire TV and TV Stick both have mic buttons that summon Alexa. Though, only these devices let you ask Alexa to open Fire TV apps or control the playback. Thanks to a software update, you'll be able to control your Fire TV the same way you can with the Alexa remote by asking your Alexa speaker to do it. You'll be able to...

But before looking at Samsung's phablet, we are trying to figure out what the latest Samsung leak could be. A Samsung device with the model number "SM-G9600" has been spotted on GeekBench with some intriguing specifications. First off, the device ran Android 7.1.2, which has yet to make it to many devices outside of the Pixel and late-Nexus family of smartphones. Otherwise, the benched smartphone has 4GB of RAM, and runs a CPU: "Qualcomm @ 1.77 GHz. 4 cores". Samsung SM-G9600 with Snapdragon...

Google Pixel XL 2 rumored to sport always-on display, squeeze gestures even with the screen off
A couple of days ago the first render depicting the upcoming Google Pixel XL 2 got leaked, and today a new report comes to tell us a few things about the unique software features it will sport. The next Pixel XL is going to have always-on display functionality, something that's made possible by its OLED screen. This will be an optional setting, of course. This feature will show useful information and notifications while the phone is locked and idle. Many other smartphones come with similar functions, and it's good to hear that Google will be joining the club. This information reportedly...
Samsung may have just teased the Galaxy Note8 as new report says it will ship in September
Would Samsung resort to teasing the upcoming Galaxy Note8 at this stage in the game? That's the question. Today, the Korean conglomerate's arm in charge of the Exynos chipsets has tweeted out the image you can see below. It's obviously a small commercial for the Exynos 8895 SoC, which powers some versions of the Galaxy S8 and S8+, and is also widely expected to be inside the Note8. But what about that device render? Is it just a generic mockup of a handset that would be at home, design-wise, in Samsung's lineup for 2017? Or is it the first actual official image showing off the looks of the...
Meizu Pro 7 leaks again, this time on video
The Meizu Pro 7 is one of the most interesting devices of 2017 already, despite it not being official yet. That's due to its quirky second display on the back, which we've already seen in various pictures in the wild. But today we get to see said second screen on video. The 10s clip doesn't reveal anything new about the Meizu Pro 7's party trick, but it's still better than a still image. What we can know so far is that the Meizu Pro 7 will have a 5.2" 1080p display to go with 2.0" screen molded into the back. The Pro 7 will tick along thanks to a Mediatek Helio X30 chipset with...

Apple is working on 3D laser for the next iPhone
Apple engineers are reportedly working tirelessly to implement a 3D laser sensor to the back of the iPhone 8 that will help improve autofocus and be used for Augmented Reality. It's reportedly a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser and will bring a huge improvement to depth detection. The new laser sensor will be vital for Apple's newly announced ARKit, which developers will use to develop AR experiences for the iPhone. Currently devs can only use the iPhone's main camera to develop AR apps. A laser system on the back of the next iPhone will also greatly improve autofocus....
Vertu forced to close UK manufacturing arm, 200 lose their jobs
Vertu will be forced to liquidate its UK-based manufacturing arm after the luxury phone maker has failed to cover its £128m deficit, of which Vertu owner Murat Hakan Uzan intended to pay £1.9m. The liquidation will result in some 200 people losing their jobs and seems to spell the inevitable doom of Vertu as a whole. Turkish owner Uzan reportedly plans to rescue Vertu, though it seems unlikely that the maker can be successful again using its old strategy of building outdated phones with quality materials such as ostrich leather and jewels. Vertu was founded in 1998 and has...
ZTE Nubia Z17 review: Driven by ambition
Getting a new Nubia device is always a different experience for us. It's never been an overwhelmingly delightful or agonizingly poor first encounter, but always a pretty daunting one to wrap your head around. Bold and distinct design, high-end hardware at a bargain price, original screen gestures - these have always been a prominent part of the package ever since the Nubia Z9.

Motorola teases shutter-proof Moto Z2 Force ahead of July 25 event
Last week, when Motorola sent out a save-the-date to the press, there was no hints on what device will be unveiled. That changes now, as the company has begun sending out the actual invites, which clearly indicate that a shatter-proof phone will be the star of the event. So this makes it pretty clear that the Moto Z2 Force will be made official by the company during the event. The handset is said to sport a 5.5-inch QHD Shatter Shield display, and powered by Snapdragon 835 SoC. Other key specs include 4GB RAM, dual rear cameras, 1Gbps LTE, and Moto Mods support.
