Late last year, Facebook launched Marketplace, a Craigslist-like platform that people can use to buy and sell things. So far, Marketplace was only available in a handful of countries, including the US, Australia, Canada, Chile, Mexico, New Zealand and the UK. But that changes now, as the service is being expanded to Europe. Specifically, roll out has begun in as many as 17 countries across the continent. The complete list of countries includes Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal,...

Essential now valued at over $1 billion, before phone goes on sale
We are still on the verge of knowing when the Essential PH-1 will actually becoming available to the public. Even so, Foxconn's filing for a $3 million investment into Essential has brought the company's valuation to about $1.2 billion, breaking past the $1 billion barrier and pegging it as a "unicorn" in the tech industry. This is according to Bloomberg columnist Tim Culpan via Twitter. Essential was previously valued at $997 million in June following a short period of large investment backing. This was also around the time that executives were leaving the company. Essential PH-1...
HiSilicon's Kirin 970 reported to have begun mass production
Huawei has debuted every major (and recent) CPUs with the Mate series. Under Huawei's HiSilicon branding, the Mate 8 debuted the Kirin 950, the Mate 9 debuted the Kirin 960, and we have no doubt the Huawei Mate 10 will debut the Kirin 970. A report from Taiwan claims that commercial production of the Kirin 970 has begun. In a previous post, we reported that the Kirin 970 might be produced by TSMC, the same Taiwanese-based chip manufacturer that pumped out the Kirin 960. However, that same report said that mass production of the Kirin 970 would begin in September. The Kirin 970 might...

BlackBerry KEYone Limited Edition Black hands-on
The BlackBerry KEYone was launched back in February and has been available for some time now. We also reviewed the device back in May and found it to be acceptable but also somewhat unremarkable, despite the presence of a physical keyboard. BlackBerry recently launched the phone in India. Manufactured locally by Optiemus, one of the three licensees of the KEYone across the world, the device comes with a unique trait that isn't available in KEYone units sold elsewhere. And that's the limited edition all black color. Since the smartphone is otherwise nearly identical to the unit we tested...
Google Contacts app can now be installed on any Android device running Lollipop or newer
Today Google has made an app that was previously exclusive to its Nexus, Pixel, Android One, and Google Play Edition devices available for all Android phones and tablets running version 5.0 Lollipop or newer. We're talking about the Google Contacts app, which is now downloadable from the Play Store even if you're not part of the Nexus, Pixel, Android One, or Google Play edition clubs. It comes with Material Design and represents Google's vision of what a Contacts app should be. Once you've installed it, you can use it instead of your phone's built-in Contacts or People app if you find...
Sony Xperia XZs is now just $599.99 unlocked, $100 less than before
Last week Sony's Xperia XZ Premium got $100 cheaper in the US in its unlocked form. Initially priced at $799.99, it then arrived at a more palatable price level - $699.99, to be precise. Today the exact same thing has happened to the Xperia XZs. This can now be bought from Amazon or Best Buy for just $599.99. That is - you guessed it - exactly $100 less than its recommended retail pricing. We've seen deals on the XZs before, mind you, but so far it hasn't been offered for this low of a price. So if you're in the US and are interested in Sony's latest and greatest, the company's two...
Telus starts taking pre-orders for the Essential Phone
In the US, Sprint is the only carrier that will sell the Essential Phone directly. In Canada, Telus is in the same position, as revealed back in June. The first handset created by Android co-founder Andy Rubin's new company should receive an actual, firm release date within days. As we wait for that to happen, perhaps you're in Canada and want to be among the first people to purchase the handset from Telus? Good news, then - the carrier has started taking pre-orders today. An Essential Phone will cost you a whopping CAD 1,050 outright. Alternatively, you can pay CAD 290 for it if...
Galaxy Note8's dual rear camera setup detailed in new report
Earlier today, Samsung posted a teaser video for its upcoming Galaxy Note8, because we're now less than ten days away from its unveiling. As we get closer to that point, the rumors regarding the device should become more and more reliable - which we hope this is. A new report from Samsung's home country of Korea gives us some details about the handset's dual rear camera setup, a first for the company's flagships. It will allegedly consist of a 12 MP main unit with dual-pixel autofocus and a 13 MP telephoto camera which will enable 2x fixed optical zoom. Both sensors will have optical image...
Asus Zenfone 4 Pro specs spotted in GFXBench: Snapdragon 835, 6GB RAM
Here's one phone that didn't leak on the Asus e-shop: the Zenfone 4 Pro. Good thing GFXBench covered all its specs in detail! The base Zenfone 4 is expected to cost 500 with a Snapdragon 630 chipset, so what could a Pro model offer? A Snapdragon 835 chipset, for starters. The Adreno 540 GPU is going to fly on the 1080p resolution of the 5.5" screen. Having 6GB of RAM will help with the more demanding games and apps as well (storage, however, is unchanged from the base model - 64GB). There will be a dual camera on the back that shoots 12MP photos. An earlier leak suggested 2x optical...
Samsung outs Galaxy Note8 teaser video
We are now exactly nine days away from the grand unveiling of Samsung's Galaxy Note8, so the Korean company is amping up the volume on its pre-announcement promotional campaign. Today it's released a video teaser that should whet your appetite for the upcoming phablet. It's all about replacing certain words with others - "closed" with "open", for example, or "follow" with "lead". And in the end, it invites you to "do bigger things" starting on August 23. So yes, the Note8 will be bigger than the S8 duo, but if past rumors are true, not by much. It's been said to arrive with a...
Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro leaked training materials reveal swim tracking, a better clasp
Following the confirmation of its existence on Samsung's own website, the upcoming Gear Fit2 Pro just keeps on leaking. Today some promotional materials showing it have been outed, as you can see below. Alongside these we get a few details about the wearable's main differentiating features. It will come with 5 ATM water resistance, which means you'll be able to swim with it worry-free. Naturally, that means it will track your swimming workouts, and it will even sync with the Speedo On app for swimmers. The Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro will also have support for offline music playback,...

Truecaller adds Request Money feature to Truecaller Pay
Truecaller has introduced a new feature as part of its Truecaller Pay service. Users can now nudge their contacts to pay them using a direct payment request, which shows up in the recipient's notifications and the person can then tap on the notification and pay instantly after entering the MPIN. Truecaller believes the feature will be useful to avoid "awkward situations of asking for money from someone". Apart from this, users can now also create shareable payment links, which can then be sent overing messaging apps or posted on a website, allowing those who click on it to pay you...

The LG V20 will welcome a successor at the end of the month, but it's still a pretty solid phone. And it can be yours for $350 under the right conditions. First, you need to be in the US. Second, you need to grab one from NewEgg before Wednesday. It's listed at $375, but you can knock $25 off the price by paying with Masterpass and applying the MPBTS17 code. Google invests a lot in its voice neural machine learning and now announced that it added support for 30 new languages. It has a thousand-year old Georgian, two of the biggest African languages and plethora of Indian languages. To incorporate all languages, Google worked with natives and collected speech samples. Using the specific sounds and words, the machines trained themselves to understand and improve accuracy when exposed to more examples over time. The new languages are available in Cloud Speech API. Soon they will start appearing across Google apps like Google Translate...
Support page confirms that Galaxy Note8 will have a dual-SIM version
The Samsung Galaxy Note8 is going to have a dual-SIM version. Not unexpected, but still nice to get some confirmation, which in this case comes from a support page on Samsung.com that went up too early. The page lists model number SM-N950F/DS, which should be the Exynos-powered version of the Note8 (F models usually are). The page was on the Austrian sub-site, so this model is for Europe. The card slot arrangement is not yet clear, though the Galaxy S8+ uses a hybrid slot exclusively. The US version of the Galaxy Note8 could launch as soon as 10 days from now. That will likely be...
Opera discontinues Opera Max service
Opera has announced that it is discontinuing its Opera Max service. The company clarified in a blog post that Opera Max had a "substantially different value proposition than our browser products, and represented a different focus for Opera." The company said that it will henceforth be focusing on its browsers and upcoming products. Opera Max was an app for Android that would route all the consumed data on your device, whether it was over Wi-Fi or cellular network, through Opera's VPN server. It did this primarily to compress the size of all media files on all the apps, including...

Rumors have it he 8 will launch with a new design alongside a slightly refreshed iPhone 7s and a bigger iPhone 7s Plus. The 8 will have an AMOLED screen with tiny bezels and likely be no Touch ID sensor on the front, relying on infrared...
