A new app from LG has been released on the Google Play Store. It's a mobile payments application, but confusingly, it carriers not one, but two monikers: LG Wallet and LG Pay. As you can see in the screenshot above, for me, the listing says the app isn't compatible with any of my devices. That's because the app description on Google Play says you need to have a G7 to install it. Yes, a G7, which - for first - is an unreleased device, and secondly, from what we've heard recently, it's reasonable to say there'll not be an LG phone with that name at-least for a foreseeable...

Meizu M6s gets certified by TENAA with 18:9 screen and side-mounted fingerprint scanner
On January 17, Meizu will unveil its latest smartphone, the M6s. Incidentally, this will be the first model to bear the new mblu brand, at least in China, where the Blue Charm line got spun off into its own division. The same phone will thus also be called mblu S6, depending on market. The M6s has just received the full certification treatment from TENAA, the relevant Chinese authority. As usual, this means we have some pictures of it to look at, and its specs have been outed as well - though we already knew those from a past benchmark run. Meizu's first handset to sport an 18:9...
Photo of alcatel 5 flagship leaks
At IFA 2017 we saw alcatel unveiling four new phones, all of them falling in the affordable or midrange brackets. We haven't seen a flagship since the Idol 4s with Windows Phone which was launched 18 months ago. Yet, evleaks posted a photo that clearly indicates we will soon see another premium device dubbed alcatel 5. The image reveals the new phone will have one camera on the back with dual-tone dual-LED flash, accompanied by a fingerprint scanner. The front panel will have an 18:9 display that has no side or bottom bezels. The top is occupied by two selfie cameras, the proximity...
OnePlus fixes issue that suspended OnePlus 5T beta update
Earlier this week, Oreo arrived on the OnePlus 5T with OxygenOS Open Beta 1. However, the update was pulled shortly after due to a bug. Well, the good news is that the company has issued a fix for the bug and the rollout has resumed. A moderator at the company's official forums made this announcement a couple of days back. He also revealed the bug in question was causing third-party camera apps to capture green pictures with the front camera. Here's what they exactly said: Following the announcement, several users shared screenshots of the update, which weighs in at around 35MB....
Motorola Moto G4 Play finally gets Nougat update
Motorola launched a trio of G4-branded phones last year, including the G4, G4 Plus, and G4 Play. While the first two got Nougat last year, the G4 Play wasn't lucky enough. Initially, the company said the update will arrive in June, but it's only now starting its rollout. The update brings along Android Nougat version 7.1.1 and also bumps the Android security level to November. There's no information on the reason behind such a huge delay, but it's good to see the update arriving nonetheless. Via
Nokia 2 Review
Nokia 1 to 10 - a Nokia for everyone. The portfolio's expansion continues into the the entry-level segment with the Nokia 2 - a budget model if there ever was one, priced around the $100 mark.
HTC updates Edge Launcher with additional options and customizability
The HTC Edge Launcher is a feature that debuted with the HTC U11+ and lets users access a host of applications and functions by squeezing their phone and getting a carousel of icons. It is an expansion of the Edge Sense feature launched earlier last year that only let you trigger one function at a time. In the latest update, now rolling out over the Google Play Store, users can edit the position of the icons on the carousel by pressing and holding on them. Another addition is that users can now add shortcuts to battery saver, auto rotate, and Wi-Fi hotspot, among...
The Energizer Bunny is now an Android: meet the Energizer Power Max 600s
Energizer is famous for making batteries, but the company dabbles in phones as well. Mostly feature phones, but a few Androids as well and the new Energizer Power Max P600s is its best effort so far. The phone is built around a 4,500mAh battery, which promises "over 12 hours of use" and 16 days of standby. You can stretch that with the power saving mode and quickly fill up the battery with fast charging over USB-C. Energizer Power Max 600s The phone itself is 9.8mm thick, which is more than we expected for comparison a Mate10 Pro with a 4,000mAh is 7.9mm thick. And the...
Macs and iOS devices also affected by Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities
Yesterday it was revealed that the large majority of the devices that we use powered by Intel, AMD and ARM processors are vulnerable to attacks via two security flaws - named Meltdown and Spectre. These are serious vulnerabilities and the whole industry is responding accordingly. Today Apple confirmed that all Mac systems and iOS devices are also affected by the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities: All Mac systems and iOS devices are affected, but there are no known exploits impacting customers at this time. It then went on to reassure customers by confirming that it had started to...
Huawei Honor 8 Pro starts getting Oreo beta
Back in September this year, Huawei confirmed Oreo is coming to the Honor 8 Pro and promised a December release. That didn't quite happen, but at least now Oreo beta has started hitting Honor 8 Pro units. The Chinese company has been accepting registrations for the beta version of the Honor 8 Pro Oreo update. We hope everything goes fine in this phase, and the public roll out begins sooner than later. Source 1 2 | Via
January update for Google's Pixel phones also includes anti-aging display improvements
Google has already started rolling out the January update to Pixels and Nexuses, and we know it includes security patches for a lot of vulnerabilities ranging from high to critical. What we didn't know so far that there are some anti-aging improvements included as well. That was revealed by Canadian carrier Telus, which published a changelog for the update. On their software update schedule page, they say the January update for all Pixel phones includes these improvements. It's difficult to say what exactly are anti-aging improvements. If we were to speculate, this could be related...
Screen protector show Galaxy S9+ bezels will be only slightly thinner than S8+'s
What do you do when the bezels on your phone are already very slim? Well, not much. This side-by-side comparison of screen protectors meant for the Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy S9+ shows barely any difference. Okay, the bottom bezel appears slightly smaller so the new phone could be a millimeter or two shorter (hard to tell from this angle). But height is the less important direction - the 18.5:9 screen already made the phone pretty tall, a millimeter more or less doesn't matter all that much. Screen protector for the Galaxy S8+ (left) and Galaxy S9+ (right) And there's not much to do...
These are the most durable and easiest to repair smartphones of 2017
Teardown and durability test expert Zack from JerryRigEverything, decided to hand out awards to the phones that impressed him the most with their durability and ease of repair. JerryRig gives the Most Durable Smartphone of 2017 award to the Nokia 6. On the other end of the spectrum is the HTC U11 that was had a surprisingly easy to crack display. Since it has pressure-sensitive frame that acts as one big button, it is in direct contact with the screen and therefore more ephemeral. Other categories include most repairable phone of 2017. The title goes to the Google Pixel 2 due to its...
Samsung Galaxy S8 Oreo Beta test ending on January 15
Samsung issued the latest Galaxy S8 Oreo Beta version on December 14, where updates featured Bluetooth improvements and plenty of bug fixes. Most recent information on the upcoming upgrade is that Samsung is ending registrations for new users today. The whole program will wrap up in ten days, on January 15. Ending the beta updates for the new OS means Samsung is ready for a public rollout of Android Oreo 8.0. The manufacturer will most likely copy match the timing of last year's Galaxy S7 Nougat update in the middle of January. The new OS is coming along with a new version of...
Razer provides list of games optimized for 120Hz refresh rate
Back when Razer launched the Razer Phone with its 120Hz 'UltraMotion' display, there were hardly any games that supported the higher refresh rate. Truth be told, there aren't even many Android games that hit 60fps on a good day, so 120fps was out of the question. List of supported games by genre Since then, Razer has worked with some developers to release optimized versions of their games for the 120Hz display. Unfortunately, I don't have a Razer Phone at hand to test these games but it's likely they won't exactly hit 120fps all the time to match the 120Hz refresh rate of...
Snapdragon 670 performance will split the difference between the 660 and the 845
The Geekbench 4 has some results which claim to be from Snapdragon 670 chipset - the exciting new chip that uses the same Kryo cores as the flagship Snapdragon 845. There's no official word from Qualcomm yet so details like the 10nm process are yet to be confirmed. The performance is on the level we'd expect - right between the Snapdragon 660 chip it is meant to replace and the 845 top dog. Of course this shows only the speed of the processor, which is clocked down slightly, and tells us nothing on the GPU. Also note that there are no phones with either of these chipsets so the tests were...

Spotify might be having some legal trouble, but its userbase is growing handsomely. Earlier today the music platform updated its About page with more recent paying subscribers count - 70 million, as of January 2018. Hello 70 million subscribers 👏 Spotify (@Spotify) January 4, 2018 Currently available in 61 markets and expanding, Spotify offers 30 million songs and has over 2 billion playlists which form a unique algorithm that provides relevant music to all the paying users. Samsung Galaxy Note8 Oreo update starts seeding
The Samsung Galaxy Note8 has apparently started getting the final Oreo update even before the Galaxy S8 series (which has been testing an Oreo beta for a while now). The tech giant hasn't officially announced the roll out yet, someone over at Reddit posted screenshots of their Android 8-powered Note8. This suggests that this is probably a soak test and only if that goes smoothly Samsung will begin wider rollout. The unit that got the update is Exynos-powered. The update carries a build number of R16NW.N950FXXU2CRA1.DM, and bumps the Android security level to January. We also got a...
Second generation Nokia 6 debuts with Snapdragon 630
Today HMD officially took the wraps off its second generation Nokia 6 smartphone. It comes with a more capable chipset and a reduced footprint, but otherwise shares most of its hardware with the original Nokia 6. The second gen Nokia 6 or Nokia 6 (2018), if you will, is built around a 5.5" IPS LCD of 16:9 aspect and FullHD resolution and sport a Snapdragon 630 with 2.2GHz octa-core CPU and 4GB of RAM. The screen is protected by a sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The operating system version is still Android 7.1 Nougat, but a quick update to 8.0 Oreo is promised to bring the new...
OnePlus 5T Sandstone White is finally official
After a video teaser on YouTube, followed by another on Twitter, OnePlus has finally announced the OnePlus 5T Sandstone White edition. It will be available for purchase on January 9 in only one configuration. The Sandstone finish resembles the older OnePlus One and OnePlus Two phones. The phone is also the same as the Star Wars Limited Edition we showed you last month, minus the logo on the back and the fancy retail box contents. The OnePlus 5T Sandstone White Edition will be available only in the 8GB/128GB memory flavor. The more affordable version with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage...
