Phone with in-screen selfie camera appears in the wild

Yesterday Huawei teased its own iteration of the Infinity-O screens that Samsung is planning to implement in 2019 - a selfie camera, tucked into a cutout of the screen. Today an image of a similar device popped up in one person's hands in a subway carriage in China. Looking further into the image, we can see the camera lens is positioned in the upper left corner where the notifications appear. There aren't any notches on the screen, but the pre-production body could be hiding some of them. While the camera seems to be an eye sore, we have to wait until a more clear image...

Microsoft shortly passed Apple as the most valuable American company

For a while this Monday, Microsoft surpassed Apple as the most valuable United States-based company. The software company hit a valuation point of $813 billion today, which was just $1 billion ahead of Apple. Considering that not long ago Apple (and Amazon not too long after) broke $1 trillion valuation, it has come a long way down since then, due in part to Apple's latest (and most expensive) smartphones (XR, XS, XS Max) not selling as well as anticipated. It isn't to say that Microsoft hasn't faced any challenges lately, but Apple has been just been barely able to get by with...

Moto G7 Play shows up at the FCC, images and specs outed

Although past rumors convinced us that there wouldn't be a Moto G7 Play next year, the FCC begs to differ. The phone has been spotted in the agency's documents today, and unlike most of its listings which don't reveal much about the devices that are certified, this one's a got quite a lot of information. We assume this might have been a mistake, either on the FCC's part, or Motorola's, but regardless of who's to blame, we can only be happy to present you the G7 Play in all its glory. The handset will have the model number XT1952, and you'll be able to get it in black or...

Lenovo Z5s gets certified with three cameras on the rear, might sport the Snapdragon 8150 SoC

Lenovo seems to be working on another member of its ever-expanding Z5 family. Following the original Z5 and the Z5 Pro which was announced at the beginning of this month, it looks like a Z5s is in the pipeline. What's more, past rumors said this might be the first smartphone to be powered by the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 chipset. The Z5s, model number L78071, has already been certified by TENAA, 3C, and MIIT in China, so its release may only be a matter of weeks now. The phone has three rear cameras, a 6.3-inch display, a 3,210 mAh battery, and probably a water drop...

Samsung Galaxy A and M-series details emerge: storage and color options

The upcoming shake up of Samsung's product lines is slowly being revealed through rumors. The latest is a summary of storage options and colors for the entry level Galaxy A and Galaxy M phones. Samsung is reportedly seriously thinking about bringing White back as a launch day color option. But it seems that is reserved for the A-series, the cheaper M models will have a more limited palette. It's not clear if any of these are gradient colors or not. The naming will change as well, moving to with double-digit numbers - so SM-M205F will be Galaxy M20 not M2. Interestingly, storage is...

Samsung Galaxy A8s to have LCD Infinity-O display, made by BOE

According to an unconfirmed industry report, Samsung could turn to Chinese display maker BOE to produce the Infinity-O panel for the upcoming Galaxy A8s. What's more interesting is that the panel could be of the LCD variety, instead of OLED, as a cost-saving measure. BOE is currently tasked with making the 6.39-inch OLED display on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Speaking of Huawei, we know it will try and beat Samsung to the first smartphone with a hole in the display, so can we guess that its smartphone will also use a BOE-made LCD. Producing an LCD with a hole is no doubt harder than...

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite review

With the Mi 8 Lite, Xiaomi marked the completion of the Mi 8 lineup, or so it seems. Google Pixel 3 lite photographed next to original Pixel, several iPhones

Here's how it compares with the current Pixel 3 duo as well as a selection of iPhones. Pixel 3 lite and original Pixel It's about same size as the original Pixel (the new Pixel 3 too) and the iPhone XR. Case for Nokia 9 appears on Amazon, has enough holes for 5 cameras and a flash

UniqueMe jumped the gun and published a Nokia 9 case on Amazon UK. This isn't the first case for the upcoming flagship, but it's the first one to appear in a store. It has enough holes for the 5 camera array (plus flash). Notably, there's a hole missing - one for the fingerprint reader. The Nokia 9 will reportedly have an in-display reader, so that makes sense. Unfortunately, the only image available doesn't offer a good look at the bottom. That's certainly a USB-C port in the middle, but what about the holes on each side? The renders we've seen previously didn't show a 3.5mm...

It packs an ample 6.39-inch AMOLED of 1440px resolution, a 7nm Kirin 980...

Analysts predict the 5G Galaxy S10 will have 12GB of RAM, 1TB storage

The 5G-enabled version of the Galaxy S10 is shaping up to be an apex predator. Analysts at GF Securities are predicting that the fully-loaded version of the phone will pack 12GB of RAM and 1TB storage. That's in addition to the expansive 6.7" screen and quad camera on the back (plus dual selfie cam for a total of six). Earlier rumors suggested that the top S10 will have 512GB of built in storage. It's possible that the 1TB figure includes a 512GB microSD card in the slot, that's how the Galaxy Note9 was advertised. The 12GB of RAM will be quite something, though. Some phones with...

Polaris Blue Samsung Galaxy S9 will go on sale in time for the holidays

Samsung's Polaris Blue Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will make it out of China and South Korea after all. The new color will go on sale in Germany (to start) in early December, priced at €849 and €949, respectively. The new gradient paint job was originally announced as Ice Blue for China and subsequently South Korea. Samsung Galaxy S9 in Polaris Blue The only difference we can see between the Ice Blue models for China and South Korea, and the Polaris Blue models destined for the German market are the storage options. Ice Blue was announced in a configuration with 128GB of memory,...

LG patents a phone with 16 cameras and the software to use them

LG has filed a patent that describes potential features of future smartphones, including an array of 16 cameras. What's interesting about them (other than the number) is that they will not lie flat on the back. The company envisions a 4 x 4 array of cameras arranged at an angle (making the array concave or convex). This way each camera sees the scene from a different angle. A photo can then be stitched from the image taken by several cameras. A mirror below the camera for selfies • The 4 x 4 camera array will be concave or convex An example given in the patent is...

Nokia teases new phone for India - probably the Nokia 7.1 Plus

Nokia is prepping to launch a new phone in India soon and the company took it to Twitter to tease it. The promo shows a backdrop of roses, which is illuminated to show the outline of a notched screen with the tagline "Expect More". The likeliest protagonist of the teaser is the Nokia 7.1 Plus, the global variant of the Nokia X7, announced last month in China. However the phone could end up being named Nokia 8.1. The teaser could be referencing the Nokia 7.1 Plus' HDR-compliant display and/or the Night Red variant of the Nokia X7. The picture's about to get rosy with an epic viewing...

vivo NEX 2 leaks with secondary screen and three cameras on the back

First it was the vivo NEX with a slider selfie shooter, then in a week, Oppo Find X arrived with all cameras tucked in the pop-up mechanism. ZTE's subsidiary nubia got rid of any moving parts and just slapped a secondary display on the back of the nubia X in the quest to have both bezel-less display and good quality selfies. vivo NEX 2 front and back It appears vivo really liked this idea, because a photo leaked on Weibo, suggesting a NEX 2 is on its way with one screen on each side. And on top of that, it is also likely to have three cameras on the back. By adding a second...

Nokia and Oppo sign multi-year patent agreement

The company did not reveal details about the agreement, but it looks like the Guangdong-based maker will rely on the biggest license holder in the mobile world for connectivity patents. Maria Varsellona, Nokia CLO and President of Nokia Technologies, stated simply that "Oppo is one of the leaders in the smartphone industry and [Nokia] is pleased to welcome them as a licensee. This agreement further validates [Nokia's] global licensing program. With this deal...
