New US FCC proposal to close loopholes and prohibit caller ID spoofing for text and calls

On Monday, the FCC released a new proposal that would finally close a loophole that keeps authorities from pursuing scammers that target US callers. As we all know, Robocalling and call spoofing has increasingly become a huge issue. Scammers will even spoof the number of a trusted organization in order to steal from unsuspecting victims. The Truth in Caller ID Act prohibits anyone from transmitting misleading or inaccurate caller ID information ("spoofing") with the intent to defraud, cause harm, or wrongly obtain anything of value. The FCC has been working hard to battle the countless...

Apple outs second public beta of iOS 13 and iPadOS

Apple has made the second public beta of iOS 13 and iPadOS available today to those who are enrolled in its public beta program. If you have already been running the first public beta on your iPhone or iPad, this release should arrive as an over-the-air software update very soon, if it hasn't already. If you want to manually check for it, go to Settings > About > Software Update. If you are on a stable iOS release but want to try the beta, head over to Apple's dedicated site for the beta program to enroll your device. Just keep in mind that bugs are inevitable, so it's probably not a great...

Samsung Galaxy Tab S5 and Galaxy Watch 2 to launch in the third quarter

Samsung is announcing the Galaxy Note10 and Galaxy Note10+ at an event on August 7, but it may have other products ready for unveiling on that occasion as well - namely, its next flagship tablet and wearable. According to a purportedly leaked Samsung release timeline, the Galaxy Tab S5 will be in stores at some point during the third quarter of this year. That runs July through September, so an announcement in early August would very much fit. As its name implies, the Galaxy Tab S5 will be the successor to the Galaxy Tab S4 revealed last year in early August. It's so far been...

Samsung patent reveals body composition feature may come to future Galaxy Watch Active

On Monday, the US Patent and Trademark Office released a patent for Samsung originally filed back in 2015. The patent outlines a feature integrated into a smartwatch's strap that would be able to measure body composition. With this, a user could measure body fat percentage. A body composition device uses bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) which calculates a ratio between fat and moisture by using a low-power AC current and analyze the electrical resistance between adipose tissues and non-adipose tissues. According to the drawings in the patent. There are two electrodes on the inside...

OxygenOS 9.5.9 for the OnePlus 7 Pro now rolling out with more smoothness, better photo quality

The OnePlus 7 Pro is receiving yet another software update, with the Chinese company keeping its breakneck pace of issuing these. This one is OxygenOS 9.5.9, and its changelog is pretty long, but primarily focused on making the experience of using the phone a better one. Touch sensitivity has been further improved for greater performance, the visual effects are smoother, the haptic feedback for the keyboard, sensitivity of the auto brightness, the speed and accuracy of GPS when the screen is off, and the auto-switching of the display resolution have all been optimized. There's also...

Samsung posts short teaser video for the Galaxy Note10

Samsung Indonesia just tweeted a short video clip about the Galaxy Note10 Unpacked event on August 7. The date has been known officially for a while, but the video hints at how Samsung will market its new flagship. In short, the theme of the video is that instead of using multiple devices, you can use just one - the Note10. It can be a desktop (with DeX) and it can replace a laptop outside the office. Short as it is, the video still finds enough time to take a jab at the iPhone. Say goodbye to hassle, and hello to powerful! Register now on https://t.co/ZwHvMZlCpg & get a chance to win...

Alleged Huawei Mate 30 case shows a rectangular camera, not circular

There are contradicting rumors about the shape of Huawei Mate 30's camera. A week ago, there was a photo of a glass back showing a circular hole for the camera module. Today, a case has leaked showing a rectangular hole. The latter does line up with these renders in an official patent document for phone cases (the document doesn't explicitly name the Mate 30, however). For a better look at this design, check out these non-official renders. There's not much consistency in the number of cameras either. Some rumors suggest 4 cameras, other say 5. Unfortunately, neither this leaked case...

Samsung Galaxy M30s images show dual-camera cutout, not much else

We know that Samsung is working on a refinement for its popular Galaxy M30 and thanks to a run on Geekbench, we know that it will be called the Galaxy M30s and that it will carry a 10nm Exynos 9610 with 4GB of RAM. But now we can get an idea of what the Galaxy M30s will look like thanks to live photos of what appears to be its rear panel. When compared to the existing Galaxy M30, the Galaxy M30s looks to have a different camera cutout on the rear - a wider but shorter one. This could indicate a dual camera setup, instead of the triple solution on the Galaxy M30. Samsung Galaxy...

Google and Dish may form a new carrier in the US

As part of their attempts to convince the DoJ to allow the T-Mobile and Sprint merger, the carriers are in talks with satellite TV provider Dish Network to offload some assets, including wireless spectrum and the Boost Mobile brand. This could lead to the formation of a new wireless carrier in the US. The New York Post reports that Google is looking to partner up with Dish to create a new carrier. A Google spokesperson denied those claims. However, sources claim that Dish is the only viable buyer for the T-Mobile and Sprint assets (valued at $6 billion) and this deal needs to happen....

Honor 9X Pro (left) and Honor 9X (right) According to previous spec leak, the Honor 9X Pro is rumored to feature a 48MP Sony IMX582 primary camera with an 8MP wide-angle sensor and 2MP depth helper. Rumor has it that Sony is working on a dream phone with a rollable display and 10x zoom camera. This is a so-called "nautilus design" and reportedly uses an LG Display panel. LG demoed a 65" rollable OLED TV at CES 2018, this could be a smaller version of the same tech. That was just a prototype, but the company will start selling it as the Signature Series R later this year. Here's the redesigned logic board of the Apple iPhone XI

It looks like Apple is moving away from the L-shaped logic board design for the iPhone XI and back to a standard, rectangular one. The proof is in a few images of the logic board of the iPhone XI from a few different sources. Logic boards, meant for the iPhone XI The iPhone X/XS had a stacked L-shaped logic board which pushed the battery to also be L-shaped. With the iPhone XI Apple will move to a rectangular logic board and a large rectangular battery to the side of it. We expect the iPhone XI and XI Max to have bigger batteries as a result of the new logic board...

HTC doubled its revenue in June, posts a seven-month best result

HTC reported its financial results for June and it brings some rare good news for the struggling manufacturer. Yes, the company is still in decline on the YoY scale, but in June 2019 it recorded TWD1.4 billion in revenue ($44 million), which is the highest in the past seven months. Since June marks the end of the first half of 2019, HTC also announced its revenue for the six-month period - it is TWD5.75 billion ($1.84 billion), revealing that quarter of it was made in the last month alone. The increase on a monthly basis is quite impressive - 94.07% more than the TWD753 million,...

Google Pixel 4 XL renders show a classic top bezel, no notch or punch hole

Google posted an image of the back of the Pixel 4, but the front is still largely unknown. The reliable @OnLeaks has posted 3D renders of the Pixel 4 XL, which show that the oversized notch is gone. No notch, no punch hole, no pop-up, just a regular top bezel with a dual selfie camera, earpiece and sensors. Even if you're not sold on the design of the back, the front is bound to have fans. Google Pixel 4 XL renders By the way, @OnLeaks and PriceBaba published renders of the smaller Pixel 4 a month ago. It's the same design, except smaller. The XL model will have a 6.25"...

Compared to the current 10W-15W output of Samsung's wireless charger this will be able a notable increase. The new wireless coil will supposedly come with the EP-N5200 model number as detailed previously in the FCC listing, succeeding the EP-P5200 that came with the S10 line. An image from a Samsung booth also popped up, detailing that reverse wireless...

Sony Xperia 20 specs leak

About a week ago solid evidence surfaced confirming that Sony is preparing an Xperia 1 sequel for this year's IFA. And according to some new info, the Xperia 2 won't be coming alone - the successor to the Xperia 10 is tagging along too. The leaked specs sheet clearly states that this hardware is for the Japan version of the Xperia 20, but chances are the global variant won't be much different. Different RAM and storage combo is usually all there's to that. Anyway, we see the Snapdragon 710 replacing the Snapdragon 630, while the display remains at 6.0" with FHD+ resolution and a...

Apple mocks Google's privacy issues with a new billboard

When CES 2019 was taking place in Las Vegas, Apple posted a banner near the entrance of the conference saying "What happens on your iPhone, stays on your iPhone". It was a tongue-in-cheek response to the privacy issues companies like Google and Amazon were having, and it appears Cupertino is back at it. This time a billboard saying "We're in the business of staying out of yours" is seen right next to Sidewalk Labs' new HQ in Toronto. The company is a subsidiary of Alphabet, just like Google. Sidewalk Labs is a company aiming to rethink urban planning. It has published a...

HTC U11+ is getting Android 9.0 Pie

HTC's 2017 flagship, the U11+, is finally receiving Android 9.0 Pie - perhaps a bit too late to the party given that Android Q is right around the corner but it's good to have it anyway. Reportedly, HTC is seeding the update in Taiwan at first and it's a hefty one - 1.45GB. The changelog isn't very descriptive but we are pretty sure visual changes and intrinsic Android 9.0 Pie features are at hand. There's no word on when the rest of the HTC U11+ owners around the globe will get it, but if no major issues are found in this extended soak test it should only be a few days. Source

All major UK carriers rely on Huawei for 5G equipment

A report by The Observer from the weekend revealed that major UK carriers built their 5G networks with the help from Huawei. The Chinese company is involved in building the 5G stations in six of the seven cities in the UK where Vodafone has launched its next-generation connectivity. It is also building "hundreds of 5G sites for EE" and already has won contracts with Three and O2. The British government is yet to decide whether Huawei is a threat to national security. Telecoms decided to work with the Shenzhen-based manufacturer for "non-core" parts of their systems despite the whole...
