Hands-free “Hey Spotify” wake word rolls out

Last month, reports surfaced that Spotify was working on enabling a hands-free wake word: “Hey Spotify”. Today, I received a notification in the Spotify app on my personal Galaxy S21 device that walked through the feature and how to enable it. Let’s look at what it is and what it does. A notification was received by the Spotify app. It brought us to a screen that prompted us to turn on “Hey Spotify”. Saying the wake phrase will prompt Spotify’s built-in voice search while the screen is on and the Spotify app is open. This means that the app is continuously listening for the wake phrase....

Redmi 20X promo poster leaks showing colors, hinting at specs

Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi is getting ready to launch yet another smartphone, not that anyone is surprised anymore. This one may be confined to the company's home market of China, though, as its predecessor was. That model arrived in China in June, so we may be looking at a similar release timeline again. The promo poster you can see above got outed on Weibo, and it shows us the phone's design, tells us to expect four colorways (black, white/silver, blue, and green), and...

Realme Narzo 30 cruises through Geekbench with Helio G95 on board

It achieved a single-core score of 517 and a multi-core score of 1,682 in Geekbench 5. The prototype in question was running Android 11, which is what the Narzo 30 should have from day one when it finally becomes official. Realme CEO Madhav Sheth teased two versions for...

In memoriam: LG's great smartphone inventions

Today we got the bad news that LG will exit the mobile business, so we wanted to look back at all the innovations that the company brought over the years as a thank you for all its hard work. LG didn’t always get the recognition it deserved. For example, the LG KE850 Prada was announced in December of 2006 – it was the first phone with a capacitive touchscreen and an all-touch UI. Of course, in January Apple unveiled its first iPhone, which stole the spotlight from the Prada. Today everyone points to the iPhone as the start of the touchscreen revolution, while LG’s contribution lays...
