The Chinese manufacturer vivo introduced three-cam smartphones back in December with the NEX Dual Display, but made the tech more affordable when the V15 Pro was announced. Starting today, even the really affordable Y series have a member with three shooters on the back, after the vivo Y17 was finally made official. The phone arrives with a tall 6.35" LCD panel with HD+ resolution and the not so popular tall aspect ratio of 19.3:9. For now, the phone has only 4 GB RAM and 128 gigs of storage, but the company might launch more options in the future. The chipset is Helio P35, built...

LG V35 ThinQ receives Android Pie update in South Korea

Earlier this month, LG revealed plans to update four flagship smartphones to the latest version of Android all before June hits, but that's as specific as it got. We've just gotten word that the LG V35 ThinQ is currently being updated to Android Pie in LG's home market of South Korea. This means the global rollout shouldn't be too far behind. The LG V40, LG V30, and LG V30S are still due for updates. We'll let you know when we hear more about those. The LG V35 was a refresh of the LG V30 with an updated Snapdragon 845 CPU and more 50% more RAM. If you are in a market outside of...

The new Powerbeats Pro is on schedule for a May launch but if you were looking to get any of the more colorful version, you'll have a wait a while. 9to5Mac reports that the Powerbeats Pro will only be available in black when they officially go on sale sometime next month for $249.95 in retail stores across several markets. There are a total of four color options: Ivory, Moss, Navy, and black. It's worth noting that no matter which color option you decide on,...

Xiaomi Mi 6 receives its first Android Pie beta

Last month Xiaomi issued an official timeline for rolling out Android 9 Pie to some of its devices, and the Mi 6 was on the list, with a planned release of a beta Pie build in the second quarter of this year. Well, here we are in the second quarter, and unsurprisingly it's now out. Note that this is a beta, and as such is only a good idea to install on a phone that isn't your daily driver. You also need to be okay with the possible presence of bugs, things being broken, that sort of thing. For the general public, while this isn't useful per se, it's good as a confirmation that...

Qualcomm and Samsung will supply Apple with 5G modems in 2020

Shortly after news broke about Intel exiting the 5G modem business, Apple was forced to settle with Qualcomm and use its chips for its future iPhones. But no one said anything about Samsung being the second supplier for the Cupertino-based company. According to a report from Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, the company will look for a second supplier and it will most likely be Samsung. This will give the company some leverage when negotiating prices and also lower its dependence on a single supplier. So in 2020, we can expect iPhones to ship with Qualcomm and Samsung chips. This also...

nubia Red Magic 3 will have a 90Hz screen, built-in fan to cool the S855 chipset

The nubia Red Magic 3 will have a 90Hz screen (those are becoming popular, huh?). The brand teased a refresh rate "higher than most gaming PCs", which is technically true - most people still have 60Hz monitors. As you can see in the screenshot below, you can switch the phone to 60Hz mode, which will prolong battery life. The top option is "automatic", so presumably it will switch to 90Hz only when needed (keep in mind that few games support high refresh rates, Fortnite getting a 60fps mode was big news). The nubia Red Magic 3 will have active cooling - an actual fan inside the...

Samsung Galaxy S10+ beats Huawei P30 Pro in a speed test

It's very hard to perform a perfect speed test where a single unresponsive app or a random stutter doesn't foil the entire test. But as speed tests go, the PhoneBuff-styled one is the most trustworthy around the web - it's done with mechanical arms and the test is ran multiple times to secure as fair a result as can be. In the latest PhoneBuff speed test the Huawei P30 Pro goes against the Snapdragon 855-powered Samsung Galaxy S10+, both using 8GB of RAM and both running UFS 2.1 storage. Looking at the chipsets we have a 7nm architecture on both (while the Exynos 9820 is 8nm). The...

Lenovo Z6 Pro is official with four cameras and a big battery with 27W charging

Lenovo finally introduced its new flagship, called Z6 Pro. The screen of the phone is 6.39" OLED panel with a tiny waterdrop notch on the top. It is equipped with a fingerprint scanner underneath the display and impressively small bezel, although we would suggest not trusting Lenovo with their renders and instead wait for the first real-life photos to come in. The Qualcomm chipset is coupled with 6/8 GB RAM and 128...

However, there will be a third model of the Pro variant coming with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Needless to say,...

Samsung is starting to recall Galaxy Fold review units

A day after issuing an official statement and delaying the launch of its first foldable phone, Samsung has apparently begun a global recall of the Galaxy Fold devices sent out to tech reviewers and members of the press. According to Reuters, Samsung is asking testers to return the devices so it can conduct a thorough analysis of the screen issues. We have not been contacted about our review unit yet so we can't fully back up the story. The whole fiasco was caused by certain users pealing the protective layer of the display causing the display to malfunction. Others reported screen...

Realme is expanding to China

Realme was announced last year as an affordable series of Oppo, just to separate later into an independent brand that still uses the infrastructure of its parent company. Interestingly enough, the company is present in plenty of Asia-Pacific markets, but none of them are the homeland of China. Now, it appears this is bound to change, since Realme established a Weibo account, a first step that many other companies have done, before starting their campaigns in the country. Yesterday the verified account asked "Did you hear I am back?" and today it doubled on the announcement with...
