LG Q9 hands-on image leaks

We first heard about LG's upcoming Q9 smartphone a few hours ago, when a purported list of its most important specs got outed. And now a hands-on image is out, allegedly showing the device in all its glory. The LG Q9 has an 18:9 display with no notch and rounded corners. There's a pretty significant chin and none of the bezels are really very slim for today's standards. Then again, depending on its price at launch, that may be tolerable. LG Q9 The source of the image speculates that we may be looking at an FHD+ panel, while the phone should arrive in India for a price of around...

Samsung's Bixby to support third-party apps by the end of this year

A good portion of Samsung users disable Bixby the second they turn on their device and for obvious reasons - the virtual assistant doesn't offer enough to justify the nuisance that is the accidental trigger when you hit the key by mistake. But since Samsung's mobile division's CEO, DJ Koh, promised to open Bixby for third-party app developers, Bixby fans numbers might rapidly go up. Bixby is a useful voice assistant as long as you are using it for adjusting system settings like screen brightness, volume and calendar entries, but rather limited otherwise. Its reach might expand rapidly...

Honor 8X Max camera samples teased

The tablet-sized Honor 8X Max will be unveiled tomorrow and with its 7.12" screen and Honor president Zhao Ming built up the hype by sharing some samples from the dual camera on Weibo. He posted three photos taken with the phone (though they are not at full resolution). As you can tell by the watermark, the phone's AI was involved in taking the shots. Honor 8X Max camera samples The Max's smaller sibling, the Honor 8X, went through TENAA, which reported a 20+2MP dual camera on the back and a 16MP selfie camera (inside the teardrop notch). A benchmark suggested a different...

Apple Watch patent points to incoming always-on display

Ever since Apple released its first smartwatch, we have been begging for an always-on display feature so we can see the time without turning on the screen. Everyone was wondering why the company won't bring that feature since the watch has an OLED screen that supports it. Well, the latest patent from the Cupertino-based firm gives us some hope. According to a new patent that Apple has filed, engineers were reluctant to include the always-on display functionality because of OLED burn-in issues and battery drain. The second one can be easily solved by switching to a dimmer grayscale mode...

OnePlus 6T retail box leak reveals waterdrop notch and in-screen fingerprint sensor

If you are following the smartphone market in recent years, you would have probably noticed that each OnePlus smartphone is strikingly similar to one of Oppo's R flagship offerings. We are talking design, features and hardware to some extent. So that's why the latest leak seems pretty solid. OP6T retail box Five photos have been posted on Weibo of what seems to be the retail box of OnePlus' still unreleased 6T. On the underside of the box lid, we see the outlines of the smartphone roughly giving away the design. Unsurprisingly, it resembles the recently announced Oppo R17 Pro...

Xiaomi will announce a high-end smartphone with a €250 price tag

Xiaomi will hold an event in mid-September to unveil a new high-end smartphone. What's special about it is the price, CNY 2,000 ($292/€253). That's how much the original Xiaomi phone cost. Also, it's about the same as the Pocophone, which (strangely) isn't available in China. So instead of a new "flagship killer" this event may be about the Poco coming home. And we're sure it's not about the Mi Mix 3 as that should cost more than the Mi 8 (CNY 2,700). Actually, the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE is CNY 1,800, which is pretty close. Via

Samsung Galaxy View 2 certified by Bluetooth and Wi-Fi organizations

Remember the Galaxy View - Samsung's enormous 18.4" tablet? Certifications from the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi organizations reveal that three years later there's a sequel on the way. The original View was essentially a portable All-in-One as it weighed a hefty 2.65kg (5.84 lbs) and had a built-in kickstand. The original Samsung Galaxy View The Samsung Galaxy View 2 may be a bit smaller than its predecessor, though still huge at 17.5" with 1080p resolution (according to rumors). An S Pen is a possibility, but it's not certain at this point. The T927A model name suggests that this unit is...

Top 10 best-performing phones in August ranked by AnTuTu

Even though there weren't many new releases this Summer, AnTuTu's top 10 fastest smartphone list has two brand new additions. However, the first place is still occupied by the Xiaomi Black Shark gaming smartphone. Interestingly, the second place is now taken by the newly released Meizu 16 Plus, which also boasts some kind of a heat spreader that appears to be doing its job pretty well. Back in June, the third place was taken by the OnePlus 6 but now it goes to the Smartisan Nut R1 followed by the vivo NEX, Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer and the Oppo Find X. The Galaxy Note9 has also joined...

Samsung Galaxy J7 Nxt/J7 Core receiving Android 8.1 Oreo

Yesterday we reported which Samsung Galaxy smartphones from the J series will get Android Oreo, starting with the Galaxy J7 (2016). The phone started receiving an OTA update to some Asian countries including the Philippines, Cambodia, and Thailand. Reportedly, the firm made a survey asking consumers if they want a foldable smartphone and the answers were positive. So here's another reason.
