Xiaomi Mi A1 available for $225 in US

The Xiaomi Mi A1 may not be officially available in the US, but those interested can still purchase the Android One smartphone at a decent rate thanks to an eBay retailer who is offering the device for $225. In other regions - especially Asia and Europe - where the handset is officially available, its price ranges from $245 to $365. So $225 for the same phone does seem to be a good deal. The seller is Top Rated Plus, and currently only the gold color option is available - rest all are out of stock. For more information on the deal, head to the Source link below. Source | Via

Weekly poll: What makes a great chipset?

They are called "system on a chip" for a reason - mobile phones don't have discrete components but CPU, GPU, ISP, etc. are all packed into one. There's not much choice, if you want to go from an AT tower PC to a pocketable super gadget. Sometimes you can have your cake and eat it too. The big.LITTLE type processors give you the performance of big cores and the power efficiency of small ones. Basically all mobile chipsets use this multi-tiered setup (usually two clusters, but sometimes more). Specialized processors have done some great things - Google's Visual Core in the Pixel 2 sped up...

Top 10 trending phones of week 3

The third week of 2018 saw devices from only three makers among the 10 most popular on our website. Samsung got five phones, followed by Xiaomi with four, while Oppo took the final remaining spot. And even if it had the most devices on the chart Samsung missed on the first two positions, which are still held by the unofficial Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and the Xioami Mi A1. The rumors that the Redmi Note line is coming to an end better be unfounded or Xiaomi risks angering quite a few people. The Galaxy A8 (2018) gets third to become the highest placed Samsung handset as the Oppo F5 rose a...

Sunday debate: Is removing the headphone jack the way forward?

In this episode of the Sunday debate we discuss if the trend of removing the headphone jack is the future or are companies just trying to rip us off. Paul: "It's the way forward" The reality is this. Removing the 3.5mm headphone jack from our smartphones changes nothing! This is the realization that I came to when upgrading my phone and for you it may also be true. Removing the 3.5mm jack gives phone manufactures greater flexibility with their form factors and internal placement of components while making it easier for them to make their devices waterproof and robust and...
