Week 18 in review: LG G7 ThinQ and Galaxy A6 duo go official

LG finally took the wraps off the G7 ThinQ this week. At that point we already had a good idea what to expect from LG's latest but it was nice to have the remaining blanks filled. Samsung also unveiled a much anticipated duo - the Galaxy A6 (2018) and Galaxy A6+ (2018) were better protected from leaks but not completely immune. After the two announcements there were the usual rumor mill-focused articles. The HTC U12+ and Xiaomi Mi 7 were confirmed for announcement on May 23 - separate events, obviously. Finally, in a move to counter increased import tax, Xiaomi raised the Indian...

Weekly poll: LG G7 ThinQ, hot or not?

LG wanted to get it right with the LG G7 ThinQ and decided not to follow the schedule of others. Still, it has been two months after the MWC ended and its primary competition is already chalking up sales records while the G-flagship won't be available until later this month. Here's what the G7 has going for it that could potentially make it worth the wait. The 6.1" screen has a rare RGBW configuration, which pushes its max brightness to an impressive 1,000 nits. And keep in mind that this display native supports Dolby Vision/HDR10 and has 100% DCI-P3 coverage. Not many of those...

Motorola Moto G6 Play in for review

While the Moto G6 Play is the most member of the newly announced trio, spanning the Moto G6 and Moto G6 Plus, it still has a lot to offer, especially for a price tag of around €200. In fact, the whole feel of the device doesn't seem all that different compared to the other two versions - it feels just as sturdy and solid in the hand despite its downgraded housing. While the Moto G6 and G6 Plus come with Gorilla Glass 3 on the back, the G6 Play features plastic on its rear panel. Thanks to its rounded back panel, the handset rests comfortably in the hand while the power button is...

Top 10 trending phones of week 18

It's been a while since we saw a change in the lead of our weekly popularity chart, but week 18 finally delivered it. The Xiaomi Mi 6X, which should hit international markets as A2 has overtaken the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Huawei P20 Pro to grab the gold. Oppo F7 was another to lose a position to the Mi A2 rise taking fourth this time around. Behind it is another handset on an upwards trajectory - the Huawei P20 Lite. The most affordable member of the new P20 trio entered the chart in ninth last week, but it's already fifth now. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro has slid a couple of spots to...

Weekly poll results: the Xiaomi Mi A2 gets the thumbs up and some suggestions

The Xiaomi Mi A2 has a solid fan base that voted 2-to-1 in its favor. Not bad results for the second-generation Android One phone from Xiaomi, which will be available in MIUI flavor in China under the name Mi 6X. In fact, it's mostly available in China right now, Xiaomi's expanding European stores have no A2 units to offer. Not yet, anyway. Which is a shame since this Android One mid-ranger offers plenty of bang for your buck. Predictably, many were unhappy about Xiaomi dropping the 3.5 mm headphone jack. Other criticisms included knocking the Snapdragon 660 chipset, though...

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S review

Halfway into the Mi Mix 2's product cycle, Xiaomi releases the Mi Mix 2S, an incremental update to the Mix 2, or a successor and a half to the original Mi Mix. The Mix was the first smartphone to push Android's limits by incorporating a display that was taller than 16:9, thus calling for Android to change its design rules and introducing OEMs with a new hardware dimension to play around with.
