We already know that refurbished Samsung Galaxy Note7 is coming. There have also been reports that the device will called Galaxy Note7R ('R' for refurbished). However, a new report from the tech giant's home country is suggesting the device will carry a different moniker. The report in question says the phone will be called Galaxy Note FE instead. 'FE' here stands for Fan Edition, suggesting that the company is targeting hardcore Note7 fans. The device has already received FCC, WiFi, and Bluetooth certification, indicating an imminent launch. However, the report notes that the...

May security update starts hitting Samsung Galaxy S7
Samsung has started pushing out a new update to its Galaxy S7 smartphone. Arriving as version G930FXXU1DQE7 and weighing in at around 345MB, it's a security update that brings Android fixes for the month of May. Aside from the latest security patch, the update - which is currently hitting unlocked units in Europe (the Netherlands to be specific) - also includes some stability and performance related improvements as well as usual bug fixes. There's currently no information on when the 'edge' variant will get the update, although we expect that to happen sooner than later. Via 1 2
YouTube now allows anyone to live stream using its mobile app
Looks like the ability to live stream using YouTube's mobile app has been made more accessible. According to latest reports, the company has dropped the 1k subscriber limit altogether. This means that now you can live stream even if you don't have a single subscriber. However, there are still a couple of requirements: the channel should be verified and should not have faced any live stream restrictions in the last 90 days. The change has already started rolling out, although Google/YouTube is yet to officially confirm it. Via

Here's a recap of what's coming in Android O, as the OS reaches 2 billion active devices
During its IO keynote today, Google reiterated the main new features coming in the Android O release later this year, but also unveiled a couple of new things. Do note that most of what follows has initially been announced back in March when the first Developer Preview of Android O became available. Speaking of pre-release software, the Android O Beta Program is now live if you're interested in giving the new version a spin (and happen to own one of six supported Nexus and Pixel devices). Android O comes with the recently detailed Project Treble, which means some of its base has been...
Google Home learns to make phone calls and show you things on your phone or TV
While Google Assistant got a lot of love at Google IO today, the Google Home smart speaker that is in fact one of the ways in which you can use the Assistant hasn't been forgotten either. Not only that, but many new features are headed to the device in the coming months. Google Home will support all the things we've already discussed in our post about the Assistant's newfound powers. You should also expect it to become available in more countries, finally. The new markets it will enter are Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and Japan. As of now, you can only buy one in the US and UK, so...
LG V30 will have Daydream VR support when it launches, Galaxy S8 to get it this summer
Among many announcements, Google took the time to do something out of the ordinary at its IO developer conference today too. Namely, spoil one spec detail about an upcoming smartphone. We're talking about the LG V30 and its rumored OLED touchscreen, which is now pretty much a given. That's because Google unveiled the fact that "LG's next flagship smartphone" will have support for Daydream VR. And while the Daydream VR spec says nothing about display technology directly, the maximum latency it allows basically means that no phone with an LCD panel can be certified as Daydream...
Google Assistant gains more features as it marks availability on 100M devices
Google I/O keynote had a plethora of announcements about its in-house Google Assistant. We already told you the platform would be available with limited functionality on iOS, but on Android, it will bloom in all its glory - you will be able to buy stuff, and you can talk to it in other languages. This summer Google Assistant will be able to detect and respond in French, German, Portuguese and Japanese and by the end of the year Italian, Spanish and Korean would also be available. This update will come to over 100 million devices, Google said. The number represents the currently active...
Google announces Android Go for devices with 1GB of RAM or less
At its IO developer conference today, Google has unveiled Android Go. This is an initiative that seems to have been created in order to fill the void left by the Android One program, which hasn't resulted in a new phone in a long while. Nevertheless, Google isn't calling this Android One 2.0, so there will be quite a few differences between One and Go. Google said it's been inspired a lot by the YouTube Go app when developing Android Go. Every single device launching with Android O and later OS versions which has 1GB of RAM or less will get Android in the Go configuration (and you can even...
Android O Beta Program debuts
Today Google has officially unveiled the Android O Beta Program. Like the Android N Beta Program from last year, this will let anyone with a supported device test the next release of the operating system before its development is finalized. A Developer Preview of Android O has been out since March, but Google has advised non-developers not to risk running that, especially on essential handsets, because it was an early release so bugs are to be expected almost everywhere. The situation should be different with the beta builds, the first of which is expected to go out very soon. If...
Google Assistant is now available on iOS
Google announced at its I/O today that Google Assistant is arriving on iOS devices, as rumors suggested. The company is launching an app that should appear on the App Store soon. Sadly, Assistant will have limited functionality and will not work so flawlessly as it does on Android phones. Because of API restrictions, the Assistant will be able to do only basic stuff such as sending messages and playing music on Spotify, Google says. This means that when the screen is off, "OK Google" will not activate the device and have the Google app open. Also, Apple is not allowing remap of the Home...
Google puts Smart Reply in Gmail for Android and iOS
You probably remember the Smart Reply feature that devices with Android Wear have. Google announced at its I/O keynote that the machine-learning process for replying emails will be implemented in Gmail for Android and iOS. Smart Reply scans the text of the incoming message and offers you three basic responses in English. According to Google, Spanish will also be available "in the coming weeks" and other languages should follow soon. The company says Smart Reply will learn over time and will adapt to your vocabulary, so the responses should become more and more personalized with...

The iPhone 8 design allegedly leaked
A mock-up of the wide-rumored iPhone 8 appeared and it allegedly reveals the final design of the phone. The phone will have no home button at all, and the fingerprint scanner is going to be implemented under the screen. The leaked images show a dummy of the iPhone 8 that is reportedly built with the original materials and components that the actual device will sport. We see a vertically-positioned dual camera setup on the back in the upper left corner; the volume rocker is on the left, and the power button is on the right, as is a tradition with Apple. The front is now a 2.5D...
Amazon refreshes Kindle Fire line with Alexa smarts
The Amazon tribe has new members - the Fire tablets got a minor refresh and a promo to go with it. The basic Kindle Fire 7 is still staggeringly cheap - $50/£50/70 - but it now promises longer battery life (up to 8 hours). It's also thinner and lighter and Amazon claims it's "more durable than the latest iPad". As usual, this price is with Special offers (aka ads). Getting rid of them will cost you $15/£10/15. Naturally, Alexa is supported, you can read Kindle eBooks (complete with X-Ray), watch Amazon Video (or Netflix) and other niceties. The Kindle Fire HD 8 goes up to...
Xiaomi Mi 6 teardown shows us it's almost waterproof
The Xiaomi Mi 6 is splash resistant, but what gives it that resistance? And why isn't it rated for full water resistance? The best way to find that out is to take the phone apart. And while he was at it, JerryRigEverything also stripped the back glass of paint to show off the internals of the phone. It seems that Xiaomi got 90% of the way there to waterproofing the Mi 6. The SIM slot has a rubber seal, there's no headphone jack and every speaker and mic grille have special mesh screens that keep water out. The one hole that's left wide open is the USB-C port - there's no waterproofing on...
Samsung Galaxy S8 scores 88 in DxOMark
Samsung released the Galaxy S8 in March. Now the camera professionals from DxOMark rated the device 88/100, positioning it behind the HTC U11 and Google Pixel and on par with its predecessor, the Galaxy S7 edge. The Galaxy S8 has excellent autofocus, accurate white balance, and very effective noise reduction, according to DxOMark. In fact, it's auto focus is one of the fastest there is. The main issue with Samsung's phone are the generally softer output from the camera. The analysts point out the Galaxy S8 has no trouble with exposure or color. When the high-contrast scene is...
Latest Apple ads paint a heart warming picture
Apple's YouTube channel has been on fire as of late, posting 7 new videos just today, a 'Today at Apple' video yesterday, a 'Barbers' ad focused on the iPhone 7 Plus' camera the day before and a box set of 9 How To videos 5 days ago. Apple's latest videos are a 7-piece feature on how Apple products can help people with disabilities. Every video is a story of how an Apple product can make a person's life better and each one is worth a look.
Google I/O 2017 starts today, here's what to expect
The annual Google I/O begins on May 17 at 1 PM ET and will take place in Mountain View, California. Many things will be announced, but some of the most interesting are the details about new Android OS, more info about the Google Assistant and improved tech in the field of VR and AR. The most interesting announcements for all smartphone geeks will surely be the details surrounding new mobile OS, which we all expect later this year. It was last May that Google showed a preview of Nougat at the developers conference and we now expect the same will happen with Android O. We might also...
New security update hitting the Asus ZenWatch and ZenWatch 2
Asus has started pushing out a new update to the ZenWatch (WI500Q) and ZenWatch 2 (WI502Q) smartwatches. Arriving as version M1D65P and M1D65B, the update brings along Android security fixes for the month of April and March, respectively. Nothing else is included in the update, as release notes only say: "Fix security vulnerabilities." Given the fact that it's an OTA rollout, it might take time for the update to hit your device. Meanwhile, if you feel impatient, you can manually check for the update by heading to your handset's Settings menu. Source 1 2 | Via
OnePlus 5 prototype photographed: peer into its dual camera eyes
Much has been said about the rumored dual camera of the OnePlus 5, but this design (with the two lenses positioned vertically) seems to be the most popular (with rare exceptions). Now an alleged prototype has been photographed with just that design, however there's a twist to this story - apparently, this isn't the final design. Still, notice the lack of a rear or side-mounted fingerprint reader. This leaves the front as the only possible placement, which, in turn, means no "bezel-less" design. Again, this image doesn't represent the final design, but unless OnePlus makes a drastic change,...
Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ to arrive in China on May 25
While Samsung has already confirmed that China is in the list of countries where the Galaxy S8/S8+ will land this month, now we have the exact date. According to a new report out of the company's home country of South Korea, the flagship device(s) will be launched in China on May 25, following a showcase event which is set for this week (May 18). The report also notes that the tech giant's Bixby artificial intelligence assistant will start offering Chinese language support starting next month. There's, however, currently no information on exactly how much the device(s) will cost in...
Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ and Galaxy C7 Pro getting latest security patch in India
Samsung has started pushing out a new update to its Galaxy S8/S8+ flagship phones in India. Weighing in at around 615MB (613.35MB to be precise), the update brings Android security fixes for the month of May. At 600+ MB, it's no doubt a big update. Sadly, there's currently no information on what other changes (if any) it brings along. Aside from these flagships, the Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro has also started receiving the May security update. It weighs in at around 185MB. As is usually the case with OTA roll outs, it may take sometime for the update to hit your device. Via...
