Our OnePlus 7T Pro video review is up

OnePlus' lineup has grown exponentially this year, while at the same time becoming rather confusing. The Chinese company's latest phones are the 7T and the 7T Pro, and while the former packs a big number of upgrades compared to its predecessor, the 7T Pro is very similar to the 7 Pro that came out months ago. With that in mind, you might be wondering whether it's worth it. Luckily, our video review of the OnePlus 7T Pro is now out for your viewing pleasure, aiming to give you all of the essentials of the phone in a quick and informative fashion. After watching it, we're hoping you'll be...

The rapid development sounds promising and we hope the stable release will come around by the end of this year. Source

Moto G8 Plus spotted in the Geekbench database with Snapdragon 665 chipset

Earlier this month renders of the Moto G8 Plus surfaced, along with some specs. Now Geekbench 5 provides the first tangible evidence of the phone - a result published earlier today. Moto G8 Plus in the Geekbench 5 database The phone was powered by a Snapdragon 665 chipset (aka "trinket"). It ran Android 9 Pie and packed 4GB of RAM. This confirms what the rumors claimed. The Moto G8 Plus is expected to come with a 6.3" 1080p LCD with a notch, a 4,000mAh battery and fast charging. The rear shooting setup will feature a 48MP main sensor, 16MP ultrawide "Action Cam" and a 5MP depth...

Huawei Mate Xs coming with Kirin 990 5G in March 2020

Earlier today Huawei held an event in Shenzhen where it unveiled the Mate 30 5G and Mate 30 Pro 5G for the Chinese market. Alongside those two handsets, the company set the date for the retail start of the Mate X - November 15. If you want a Kirin 990 version of the Mate X though you'll have to wait some more as Huawei will introduce the Mate Xs in March 2020. Design-wise, the Mate Xs seems to be identical to the regular Mate X. On the inside though, the phone will pack the newer and more powerful Kirin 990 5G chipset. The Kirin 990 5G is built on the 7nm+ EUV process and comes with...

OnePlus 7T teardown shows what's behind the round camera and plenty of rubber gaskets

Zack from JerryRigEverything set out to find out what's behind the circular camera island on the OnePlus 7T. It turns out that the answer is "aesthetics" as there's nothing inherently circular about the hardware inside. The triple camera module is laid out horizontally with the dual LED flash placed on a separate daughter board (which also houses the NFC antenna). The more interesting finding is that there are numerous rubber gaskets around all openings of the phone as well as around the connections of the ribbon cables. The gaskets are OnePlus red, a nice touch. However, OnePlus...

Twitter finally rolling out OLED-friendly dark mode to all its Android users

Twitter rolled out an OLED-friendly dark mode called "Lights out" for its iOS app back in March this year. And last week, it was activated for those who were using the alpha version of the Android app. Now, the company has announced that lights out is finally rolling out to all the users of its Android app. Unlike the old dark mode, which is now called "Dim", lights out turns the UI of the app to true black, which does a better job at power consumption on devices that sport an OLED display. The images below show the difference between both modes. 'Dim' mode (left) vs 'Lights out'...

vivo teases a smartphone with diamond-shaped camera

Another week, another new vivo smartphone is on its way. This time the company celebrity ambassador and influencer Cai Xukun spoke in an interview for Esquire Fine, holding a new phone with unusual diamond-shaped camera setup and at least three shooters. Sources from China claim the name will be vivo S5 despite the lack of phones in the S lineup since S1 and S1 pro. The leader of the Nine Percent k-pop boy band, better known as Kun actually interviewed himself. In his role as an interviewer, Kun appears to be reading fashion-related questions from the alleged vivo...

Realme phones are getting custom ColorOS branch, v7.0 will be close to stock Android

The latest episode of AskMadhav was an exciting one - especially for fans of stock Android and ultra wide-angle video. Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth answered questions from fans concerning software, hardware, release dates and prices. The major takeaway from this Q&A session is that Realme phones will jump straight to Color OS 7.0, there will not be a v6.0.1. There are no plans to move away from Color OS, but instead an exclusive branch will be developed for Realme phones. According to Madhav, Color OS 7.0 will be much closer to stock. You can see this question at 3:30. Another...

Pixel 4's screen scales down to 60Hz when brightness is set below 75%

One of the biggest additions to Google's new Pixel 4 line is the new 90Hz refresh rate screen. This is a key trend in 2019 flagship phones but now it seems that both Pixel 4 and 4 XL automatically switch to 60Hz when their brightness is set to lower than 75%. The discovery was made by a group of Reddit users and has since been confirmed by many early adopters. Apparently, there is a workaround to this issue through the developer setting where you can lock the 90Hz refresh rate in all scenarios. In addition, Twitter user Jeff Springer noticed that the 90Hz mode stays locked at lower...

OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Edition announced, is exclusive to T-Mobile USA

Surprise! The OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Edition is the extra long name of the company's second 5G phone. However, it's not the missing 5G version of the 7T Pro. At least not for anyone not on T-Mobile US as this is an exclusive for the North American carrier. There's no word on pricing yet or when the phone will be released. This is also the only way to get the 7T Pro in the US, by the way. The OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Edition (boy, this gets tiring) is essentially the same hardware as the 4G version of McLaren Edition other than the new modem. This means that compared to the OnePlus 7...

Huawei is having an eventful day - the company launched the 5G-enabled Mate 30 lineup, celebrated 200 million sales globally, and now has finally started the sales of its first foldable phone - the Mate X. The smartphone is already listed at Vmall, Huawei's official online store, for the CNY16,999 (that's about $2,400 or €2,150). The Huawei Mate X arrives with Kirin 980 chipset, as initially announced - rumors that the company was going to upgrade it to the Kirin 990 turned out false. At least it will ship with an integrated Balong 5000 modem for 5G speeds. Other specs...

Samsung teases new Exynos chipset, promises cutting-edge processor

Samsung tweeted a teaser for the next Exynos chipset. It didn't reveal too much, but those "new frontier" and "cutting-edge processor" labels hint at a new flagship chip. Earlier this year, Samsung Foundry completed development of 5nm EUV chips, which are expected in 2020. According to the company, those promise 25% better silicone density, 20% lower power consumption or 10% higher performance at the same power draw. The next #Exynos is coming. The mobile intelligence will take another leap forward. #NextGenPower pic.twitter.com/giCF0wPH8C— Samsung Exynos (@SamsungExynos) October 22,...

Huawei sells 200 million smartphones in 2019, two months faster than 2018

Huawei might have had a tough year and uncertain future ahead, but the company today reported some good news - it sold 200 million smartphones since the beginning of 2019. The impressive milestone was reached 64 days faster than in 2018, despite being a hostage in the negotiations between the United States and China. The Chinese company already reported that the P30 lineup, announced in March, and the Mate 20 series that debuted last year have been outsold their predecessors. Another reason the 200 million mark shouldn't be a surprise is how steady Huawei is on the top position...

Today, the company unveiled a mid-range part based on the same architecture. Also, ARM unveiled a new lineup of NPUs under the Ethos brand name. Those will power the computational photography, on-device translation and much more AI-based work in future devices. Mali-G57 The ARM Mali-G57 GPU targets mid-range chipset and promises a 30% boost in performance, energy efficiency and silicon density compared to a...

The handset is built around a 6.5-inch OLED screen with no notches or cutouts. The upper bezel is a tad thicker and it's enough to house the front-facing camera, the earpiece and the usual set of sensors. The screen is also TÜV-certified for low blue light emissions. The resolution is 1080 x 2232px with 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The fingerprint reader sits beneath. A Snapdragon 855 chipset with Adreno 640 GPU drives all the pixels...

Chinese phone maker Realme unveiled the Realme 5 back in August, and it appears the company will soon follow it up with the Realme 5s. The Realme 5s, bearing model number RMX1925, received certification from Thailand's NBTC and India's BIS, hinting at an imminent launch. Details are scarce about the Realme 5s and there's no word from the company about this phone. However, Realme is launching the X2 Pro in India on November 20 and said that it'll have some "surprises" for us at the event. Could this be one of those surprises? We'll have to wait until more details surface. Via

Sony Xperia 1 Professional Edition launched in Japan

The Sony Xperia 1 has been out since June but Sony decided to offer a revised version dubbed the Xperia 1 Professional Edition. It brings tweaks to the display, camera and the added support for LAN connection via the Type-C port. Starting with the display, you still get a 4K OLED panel with the tall 21:9 aspect ratio but now there's also support for 10-bit signal and a better-calibrated display based on the viewing setting for the company's Master series reference monitor line with an Illuminant D65 color profile. On the camera front, Sony is bringing the Imaging Edge Mobile app...

The Huawei Mate 30 5G and Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G have finally gone on sale. The devices will be up for purchase at 18:08 Chinese time, and will be available only on the domestic scene, which is hardly a surprise. Price of the Mate 30 5G will begin from CNY4,999 (that's around $705), while the Pro variant will start from CNY6,899 ($975). Both the Mate 30 and the Mate 30 Pro have the Kirin 990 5G chipset, which is clocked at 2.86 GHz. The SoC is slightly different from the basic Kirin 990, running in the non-5G variants of the phones. It has slightly faster CPU clusters and two big...
