Bixby key remapping works again, despite Samsung's continued efforts

Samsung's story with Bixby is a long and complicated one. To make it short: Bixby was not ready in the US when Samsung launched the S8, so developers began devising ways to repurpose the dedicated Bixby key to perform more useful actions. Since then, Samsung's efforts to prevent developers from remapping the key have failed to do so every time. T-Mobile's latest firmware update for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ (released on July 8 blocked the last known remapping method and an updated one is already out. Apparently, all that needed to be done was to enable a "compatibility mode" for the app...

The world's first wireless charging laptop is now available from Dell

Dell's new 2-in-1 laptop just went on sale. But what's most interesting about it is that it's the first 2-in-1 computer to support wireless charging. That is, if you shell out the extra $550 it costs to get the 7285's wireless charging keyboard accessory and the charging mat that goes along with it (keyboard only will set you back $380, the charging mat is $200). Mind you, the tablet computer is already pretty steep starting at $1200. While the tablet itself doesn't actually charge wirelessly, you'll need to have the 2-in-1 docked to the wireless-compatible keyboard. In addition,...

Ads are coming to Facebook Messenger, brace yourselves

As you may know, there are ads on Facebook. Quite a lot actually. So with that in mind, the following really shouldn't be all that surprising. The social network is working on bringing ads into its own-brand chat app, Facebook Messenger. These will show up inside the home screen of Messenger, where you currently see your most recent chats. The look of the ads will be tightly integrated into the design of the app so that they don't stand out too much, but the amount of vertical space they take up (which is roughly equivalent to three chats) will definitely not go unnoticed, as you can see...

Google Pixel 2 XL design revealed in an early render

Android Police has an early render of the upcoming Google Pixel 2, which will be manufactured by LG. The render in question is of the bigger or "XL" model and all details mentioned pertain only to this particular variant. At first glance the phone looks similar to the current Google Pixel XL but there are many differences to consider. On the front is an 18:9 aspect ratio AMOLED display. It is expected the display will be 6.0-inch in size. The glass has curved edges but this is not a curved display. Like the G6 and the S8, the phone has very narrow bezels on the front but isn't...

Weekly poll: What makes a great camera?

We already found out what you guys think is the best use of dual camera, but now we'll gauge your opinion on a more fundamental photography issue. This time around we'd like to know what matters to you guys the most when evaluating the quality of a camera. Tuning the output of any smartphone's camera is all about finding the right balance. What makes this so hard is that everyone's priorities are different, so there's no universal solution. For example some people love their colors more saturated so the images appear punchier, but boosting saturation inevitably leads to an increase...

Samsung Galaxy S8 sales slowing down, analyst claims

According to an security researcher from Korea the Galaxy S8 and S8+ sales are starting to slow down. The duo has reportedly sold close to 10 million units in the first two months while the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge saw 12 million units sold in their first two months. This report has a huge question mark attached to it as Samsung has boasted of overachieving sales of the Galaxy S8 series. The slowing sales reportedly made Samsung ramp up Galaxy Note 8 production so that it can launch the anticipated phablet earlier, namely on September 10, after announcing it in August. Yet, that's...

Copper and Blue versions are currently available for pre-order, but the latter is coming only with the ad-free...

Motorola Moto X4 specs leak on GFXBench

An unofficial Motorola smartphone has just appeared on GFXBench sporting the model number XT1789. The logical guess is that this is the Motorola Moto X4 (otherwise known as Moto X 2017) but some of the specs suggest otherwise. We've heard that the Moto X4 will have a 5.2" 1080p screen while the model listed on GFXBench has a 5-incher. Then again, we've seen benchmarks get size wrong on plenty of occasions, so maybe we are reading too much into that. The chipset is a Snapdragon 630 with 3GB of RAM though the Moto X4 is rumored to feature 4GB. Otherwise there's an 12MP camera on the...

All the other specs of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 stay the same - the chipset is the still capable Snapdragon 821. The power cell has a 4,070 mAh capacity and can get you a long way if you are into watching videos. The price of the phone is CNY2,899 or about $426. The only color option is Black. Nextbit Robin currently going for $110 in the US

Around a month ago, the cloud-focused Nextbit Robin smartphone was going for $120 in the US. And now, the price has dropped even further. An eBay retailer (buyspry) is currently offering the phone for $109.99. The unit on offer is unlocked and available in mint and midnight colors. As is usually the case, the listing says limited quantities are available, but doesn't reveal when the deal ends. Keep in mind that Nextbit has been acquired by Razor, and official sales of the phone and its accessories have stopped. The company doesn't even honor warranties anymore. For those...

Apple iPhone 8 back panel leaks

Apple is expected to unveil the anniversary iPhone, also dubbed iPhone 8, in September. There are around two months until the announcement, but the phone is already being revealed bit by bits by leaksters. Latest photo gives us a look at the iPhone 8's back with a single vertical oval cutout for the camera setup. The new iPhone will have a glass back cover. The Apple logo is at its usual place, so a fingerprint scanner on the back is not happening, despite what some sources claimed. Having a glass back will be a throwback to older series of iPhones. The last time Apple used such...

Verizon offering $290 discount on Google Pixel and Pixel XL

If you are a Google fan in the US here's a deal for you: Verizon is offering the standard Pixel for $360, while the XL variant is being offered for $480. And secondly, the discount will be applied over the course of 24 months - yes, you'll have to purchase the unit on its financing plan. Available color options...

Xiaomi sends out media invites for Mi Max 2 India launch

Xiaomi has sent out invites to the India media regarding the launch of the Mi Max 2 early next week. We expect the Mi Max 2 to launch...

The LG G6 has started getting a new update in the United States. It's a large update that weighs in at around 640MB and is currently hitting unlocked units (US997). The changelog doesn't reveal any details, except saying that the update improves the handset's usability and functionality. Reportedly, Android security fixes for June are also included in the update. As is usually the case with OTA roll outs, it might take time for the update notification to pop up on your phone's screen. Via
