For what it's worth, the M5 Note is also said to have passed what's known as China Compulsory Certification (3C). Via

Sony Xperia XZ and X Compact start receiving November security updates

Sony has started rolling out new updates to its Xperia XZ and X Compact smartphones. Arriving as build number 39.0.A.3.30 for the former and 34.1.A.3.49 for the latter, the updates bring Android security fixes for the month of November. It isn't yet known what else (if at all) is included in the updates. As is usually the case with OTA roll-outs, it may take time for the update to hit your device. Meanwhile, if you feel impatient, you can manually check for the update by heading to your handset's Settings menu. Via

Leak suggests T-Mobile might start offering Blue Coral Samsung Galaxy S7 edge soon

While AT&T has already confirmed the pricing and availability details for the Blue Coral color variant of the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge smartphone, looks like T-Mobile will also start offering the new model soon. A leaked image, allegedly from T-Mobile's inventory system, clearly shows the recently-launched Galaxy S7 edge color variant listed as a new product (see item #3 in the image below). There's currently no information on exactly when the magenta carrier will start selling the device, but given that the model has already entered the carrier's systems, it'd be reasonable to assume...

Development of Nougat firmware for Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 edge has begun

For Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge owners who are eagerly waiting for the Nougat update, here's some good news: the tech giant has started Nougat firmware development for the devices, according to a new report. The report reveals that the initial Nougat firmware for the devices carries a build number of XXS5DPK7, but that's likely to change as the firmware gets finalized. As for the roll-out, the report says that the process won't begin until next year, adding that even the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, for which an official Nougat beta program is already underway, will also not...

Weekly poll: Is HTC Bolt what the company needed?

HTC unveiled "the fastest phone" for Sprint's LTE Plus network - aptly named the HTC Bolt after the man himself, the fastest human on Earth. The analogy here is made with Qualcomm's X10 model, which uses 3x20MHz carrier aggregation (3CA) for up to 450Mbps downlink speeds (that's Cat. 9). Not to rain on HTC's parade, but Samsung already demoed the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge doing 3CA and achieved peak real world download speeds of over 300Mbps. That's because those phones use the newer X12 modem. The Bolt could have had the X12 modem too, had HTC chosen a newer Qualcomm chipset, but instead...

Top 10 trending phones of week 45

It has finally happened - the Galaxy J7 Prime has beaten the J7 (2016) at its own game and claimed the number 1 spot in our weekly chart. The regular J7 is still on the podium, albeit in 3rd. In between the two Galaxies is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, last week's crown holder. Xiaomi's presence in the top 10 chart is not over, on the contrary - the Mi Mix has inched ahead and is now in 4th. Announced last week, the Redmi 4 Prime joins the race in 5th, while the Redmi 3s Prime is in 6th for the third week in a row. But wait, there's more - the Redmi Note 4 is the other new entry, joining...

Weekly poll results: Huawei Mate 9 gets the love, Porsche Design too

Huawei unveiled two Mate 9 flagships - one with a 5.9" screen and a special edition Porsche Design with a 5.5" screen. Surprisingly, both models got a positive response. "Surprisingly" because the Porsche Design costs double what the base edition does - a steep price, but it it is a beautiful phone. The dual-curved screen definitely helps, even more so because it's an AMOLED with QHD resolution (compared to the 5.9" LCD with 1080p resolution). There was a strong contingent of fans of other brands, but the 5.9" Huawei Mate 9 won and the limited edition followed closely...

Week 45 in review: Galaxy S8 rumors, cancelled and upcoming Nokia phones

Samsung Galaxy S8 rumors have been all over the place, and some of them are pretty fascinating. No, we're not talking about the one where the internal model designations might be skipping a number. No, we're thinking more along the lines of bigger displays - 5.7" and 6.2" in the S-series. Now, where does that leave the Note (as there will be another Note according to that same model naming rumor), we can't know, but we'll find out in due time. A Samsung Assistant is in the works as well - you can't not have one, it seems, now that Apple and Google are fighting over which will offer the...
