Huawei Honor View 10 hands-on review

Huawei Mate 10 Pro at a little more than half the price - that would be the Honor View 10. Gone official in China last week, the View 10 was just announced for the world, and we were there for some hands-on action.

Galaxy A5 (2016) is the first Samsung to receive the December security update

Google has just started sending out the December security update for the Nexus and Pixel devices that it supports directly, but Samsung wants to quickly get in on that action too. Perhaps surprisingly, the Korean company's first handset to receive the latest patches isn't the S8 or the Note8. Instead, for the third time in a row, Samsung has chosen the mid-range (and quite old by mobile world standards) Galaxy A5 (2016) for that role. The December update is already out for this device in the Netherlands - if you bought yours unlocked and unbranded. It should make its way to additional...

You can win one of 60 Honor 7X phones with Amazon Music Unlimited

Don't have €300 to spend on an Honor 7X? Well, Amazon France is running a promo that gives you a chance to win one of 60 units. You need to be an Amazon Music Unlimited subscriber (the free 30-day trial works too), then you need to go to the contest page by December 10 (this Sunday). You can follow the instructions there (basically it's as simple as playing one song on the Amazon Music app). You can find out more about the Honor 7X from our hands-on review. A similar promo for the Honor V10 (coming to Europe next month) would be nice too. Source | Via (in French)

Buy an Honor 7X soon, get a price reduction or free stuff

Today Honor made the 7X official for international markets, and it's already available in many countries (the main exception at the moment seems to be the US, where it's only up for pre-order). The Huawei owned online-only brand has prepared some interesting launch promotions, which see you either saving some cash compared to the handset's official price, or net you freebies - but in every case you need to act fast. Don't put off purchasing the Honor 7X if you want in on these. UK Until stocks last, if you buy the 7X you will receive a free Honor Band 3 fitness tracker. That's a...

Current Nokia phones will not support Project Treble

New Nokia phones come with clean Android and a promise of fast updates, but it turns out they are still not equals to the Pixels - at least not as far as Project Treble is concerned. Here's the deal: all current Nokia models (which launched with Android 7.x Nougat) will not get Treble. While it is mandatory for devices launching with Oreo, it requires extra work for devices that came to life with an older version. It's not impossible - the original Pixels got Treble (of course), but so did the Essential Phone along with the Huawei Honor 9 and Honor 8 Pro. Others - like OnePlus and HMD -...

Xiaomi is looking for Mi A1 Android 8.0 Oreo update beta testers

Xiaomi launched the Mi A1 running stock Android 7.1.2 Nougat (and the stock part makes perfect sense considering that it's part of the Android One program). It's received a couple of updates since, but it still hasn't tasted Oreo. That's about to change real soon, however. Xiaomi has announced that it's currently looking for eager Mi A1 owners to beta test its upcoming Android 8.0 Oreo software release. You have until December 11 at 11:59 PM Beijing time to enter, which you do by following the steps outlined at the Source linked below. Long story short: you need to use the MIUI...

Samsung Galaxy A5 (2018) will actually be called A8 (2018), Bluetooth filing reveals

For whatever reason, it looks like Samsung is ready to change the branding for its A series smartphones. The successors to the Galaxy A5 (2017) and A7 (2017) will not be called A5 (2018) and A7 (2018), as you'd expect. A few days ago we found out that the latter of those two is actually going to go by the name A8+ (2018), and now it's time to see what its sibling will be named. It turns out that the device we've so far been referring to as the Galaxy A5 (2018) will be sold by Samsung as the Galaxy A8 (2018). It has the model number SM-A530, which means it's definitely supposed to be next...

Offered in Silver or Space Gray, the bezel-less Apple phone costs $999 for the 64GB version and $1,149 for the 256 GB one. If you can't wait for a December 12 shipment, there is always the pick-up option where you get it straight from an Apple...

Huawei Honor 7X hands-on

Honor 7X launching internationally The Honor 7X has already been announced in China back in October, but of course - Honor and Huawei often leave a gap between its Chinese and Worldwide launch events. Today, the Honor 7X has been announced in London for Europe the US alongside the Honor V10. While the Honor V10 will get the most attention for its specs, we got a chance to take a look at the Honor 7X before the event and get a good first impression of the device's hardware. There is plenty to say about the Honor 7X's hardware considering how much Honor's "#X" series has evolved over the...

Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus pricing appears on Aliexpress

Xiaomi is launching the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus on December 7, but the devices were already listed on the retailer's website AliExpress. The seller named "Xiaomi Online Store" offers the regular version for $199 in Black or Gold and $209 in Blue or Pink. The Plus variant is listed for $249 and once again the Blue and Pink versions are $10 more expensive. Although the seller's connection with the actual company Xiaomi looks sketchy, the prices are in the ballpark of the expected ones. There is a disclaimer that the phone is still in "pre-sale" stage, meaning not all specs are...

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Black Ceramic goes on sale today

While it was supposed to go on sale on November 28, the Black Ceramic version of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is finally launching today. The Black Ceramic model comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage at a price of CNY 4,700 (that's $710/€600). The White Ceramic model (which was on sale on 11/11) remains available at the same price. The Black and White Ceramic models go all in on the ceramic. Source

Watch the Honor V10 and Honor 7X livestream here

Huawei is setting up for the Honor event in London. The poster puts the Honor 7X on display, but according to Huawei's schedule the Honor V10 should be at the event as well. Those two are already official, today is all about their European (and perhaps North American) launch and price. The event starts at 14:15 GMT - we'll be there and you can join us virtually through the livestream. Both the Huawei Honor V10 and Honor 7X sport 18:9 screens and dual cameras on the back. The V10 is the more premium model with Mate 10's Kirin 970 chipset while the 7X competes with the Mate 10...

Google Files Go app now available publicly on the Play Store

The Google Files Go app is now out of beta and available to everyone on the Play Store. Files Go is primarily a file manager app designed with Go Edition devices in mind. Instead of showing your file directory it instead has categories like images, videos, audio, documents, apps, etc. The app also lets you send files to another Files Go user. It creates a local hotspot, which it then uses to send the file over on Wi-Fi. Depending upon your device, you can get some pretty fast transfer speeds without ever using any data. The app also gives suggestions on deleting unused apps,...

HTC Ocean Harmony gets 3C certification

Several months ago we reported that HTC is planning to launch three more phones by the end of 2017. We already saw the U11+ and the U11 Life, so now it's time for the last one, codenamed HTC Ocean Harmony. The device was listed by CCC, meaning that at this point a launch is inevitable. According to the listed specs, the chipset will be Snapdragon 652, coupled with 4 gigs of RAM and 64 GB storage. The phone, codenamed HTC 2Q4R400, is expected to have 5.99" bezel-less screen like the one in HTC U11+. This looks like a toned down device and most likely will be a budget option of the...

Honor V10 sold out in its first flash sale

Yesterday we told you about the massive interest in the new Honor V10. Today the phone was launched in its first flash sale in China and all units got sold out in minutes, the company bragged on Weibo. There will be another round of sales next Tuesday on December 12, but according to the numbers, units might go out as fast as the first time. Honor sold the phone in its three RAM/storage combinations - 4GB/64GB for CNY2,699 ($410), 6GB/64GB for CNY2,999 ($450) or 6GB/128GB for CNY3,499 ($529). They will be available again in seven days, but this time the company is adding an...

Samsung now mass producing 512GB storage for phones

In this week's poll we asked you how much storage is enough. Currently, most popular phones come with 32GB-64GB and the most you can get is 256GB. Samsung intends to change that as it started mass production of 512GB eUFS storage. The new storage has the same physical dimensions as the current 256GB storage, good news since internal space in phones is at a premium. Samsung built it out of 64-layer 512 gigabit chips, eight of them, while the older eUFS storage used 48-layer chips. The new storage promises 860MB/s sequential reads and 255MB/s sequential writes. It takes 6 seconds to copy...

Android Go renamed to Android Oreo (Go Edition), is finally ready to roll out

For the second time, Google has officially announced Android Oreo (Go Edition). Previously known as Android Go, this new variant of Android is designed specifically for low-end Android devices with low memory and data usage in mind. Android Oreo (Go Edition) (horribly clunky name, I know) has three main differences from the standard edition of Android Oreo, streamlined operating system, optimized default apps and an optimized version of Play Store that highlights lightweight apps. The Go Edition has improved speed and reliability on low-end hardware, with 15% faster app performance....

BLU rolls out new update to fix 'permanently locked devices' issue caused by previous one

BLU recently pushed out an update to its Life One X2 smartphones that effectively resulted in units getting bricked. Specifically, the update process asked for a password to unlock/login, but users said the password they entered was being rejected. Now, the Miami-based company has confirmed that they have fixed the issue. A new software update has started rolling out containing the fix. Sadly, there are no details on exactly what caused the problem, but what really matters at this moment is to give back users access to their devices, and that's what the company claims the latest update...
