Android 7.1.1 for Nexus 6 rolling out again
If you remember, back in March, Google pushed a downgrade OTA to Android 7.1.1-powered Nexus 6 units (forcing them back on to version 7.0.) following reports that the March update broke Android Pay. Now, several months after that, the device has started receiving the update again. Keep in mind that you need to be on the most recent Android 7.0 build in order to successfully install the latest 7.1.1 update being rolled out by the company. The new update weighs in at around 370MB. Via
Glass back to make iPhone 7s thicker than the iPhone 7, rumor says
As you may already know, Apple is expected to introduce three new smartphones at a special event taking place at some point in September. Aside from the new iPhone 8 (with a near-bezelless OLED screen), the company will also unveil the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus. These are to be similar to their predecessors in looks, but come with glass backs instead of aluminum (and no antenna bands in sight). That will make them (and the iPhone 8) capable of wireless charging, a first for Apple's mobile portfolio. Now a new report claims that the iPhone 7s will be slightly thicker than the iPhone 7 because...
Facebook's News Feed gets a slight redesign on mobile
Facebook constantly tweaks the content it shows in its News Feed, but today the social network has announced a different type of change coming - a redesign. It's not going to be a radical departure from what the News Feed used to look like, mind you - just added polish here and there. All of the following certainly applies to Facebook's app for Android, since all of the screenshots the company shared are from that platform. The same redesign is probably headed to iOS as well, but there's no telling whether (or when) News Feed will look this way on your desktop. On mobile, expect these...
Google Pixel 2 shows up at the FCC with Android 8.0.1, Active Edge squeeze feature
Following a barrage of leaks about it, Google's upcoming Pixel 2 has decided to stop by the FCC. The certification process has thankfully resulted in a few screenshots from the phone's UI, which reveal a few (more) details about it. First off, the Pixel 2 is made by HTC, as previously revealed by countless rumors (the Pixel XL2, on the other hand, will be LG's doing). Its frame will be squeezable like that of the HTC U11, though in the Pixel the feature will be called Active Edge. By default this will let you invoke the Google Assistant by giving the handset's frame a squeeze. The...
Google Allo finally has a web client, only pairs with Android phones at the moment
Allo, one of what feels like dozens of different messaging apps from Google, finally has a web version starting today. This was by far one of the most requested features since the service debuted last year, and it's still unclear why it took so many months for it to arrive. Anyway, it's here. However, right now you can only use Allo on the web if you have an Android phone. This is because the Allo app on your phone has to pair to the web client in order for the latter to work. You accomplish this by scanning a QR code, which makes Allo's web client identical to WhatsApp Web in this...
Galaxy Note9 may have a breathalyzer built into the S Pen, patent reveals
Now that the Galaxy Note8 is almost official, it's time to turn our attention to its successor, which we're going to call Note9 because it just makes the most sense. According to a newly unearthed patent application by Samsung, this model (or any other future Note-branded phablet) could sport a very interesting new feature. We're talking about the S Pen stylus having a breathalyzer built-in. Oh, and also a microphone. The patent was filed accompanied by the drawings you can see below, which aim to portray how such a setup would work. The stylus will be bendable. When used as a...
Instagram adds threading to comments
Instagram has lately been known to add a lot of features to its photo sharing service, and today is no different. Unlike other occasions, however, this time around it's only a small thing that's been changed. Small, but important. Starting with version 24 of Instagram for Android and iOS (which should be available now in the Google Play Store and iTunes App Store, respectively), comment threads are a thing. This makes Instagram more like Facebook, its parent company, as that social network has had comment threading from time immemorial. So, from this point on, when you hit Reply...
Nokia 6 review: International flavor
We finally got round to it and it's quite like we remember the Nokia 6. This time around though, it's repackaged for worldwide action and, hopefully, not a déjà vu all over again. We'll obviously revisit the old review of the China-bound variant, only here we'll focus on the bits that are different. And those are by no means insignificant, who knew.

Meizu M6 Note back panel leaks with horizontal dual cameras
We already know that Meizu is launching the M6 Note on August 23. Three days ago we reported a leak, revealing the front of the device and now we get a look at the back. The camera setup will be horizontal with a quad LED integrated into the antenna band on the top. An earlier specs leak suggested the Meizu M6 Note will be powered by the Helio P25 chipset. It will have 5.5" LCD panel with Full HD resolution and 4,000 mAh battery. There will be two versions - one with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage and another 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage combo. The lite option should have a price...
HomePod will launch in Q4 this year in limited quantity
Apple is expected to launch its smart home speaker HomePod this holiday season in the US, the UK, and Australia, but it will likely be in low supply initially. According to analysts there will be only around 500,000 units available. Industry sources say HomePod is being manufactured by Taiwan-based Inventec with local rival Foxconn likely to start producing the smart speaker sometime next year. This means that if the $349 Siri speaker generates large demand there might be shortages until next year. Source | Via

Canalys: Huawei overtakes Apple in CEE in Q2 2017
Canalys posted its report on the smartphone shipments in Central and Eastern Europe in Q2. Between April and June 15.6 million units were shipped, with Samsung snatching a third of the market. At second comes Huawei with 12% and 1% more than Apple. Xiaomi jumps in fourth elbowing Lenovo, which settles for fifth with 5%. Boosted by high demand for Galaxy A and Galaxy J smartphones and their 2017 versions, Samsung shipped 4.9 million units, which is an increase of 14% year-on-year. Even though Galaxy S8 is a massive hit across Eastern European countries, some vendors may have...
EISA awards: Galaxy S8 is best smartphone, Huawei got 3 titles
The EISA Awards were handed out and Hauwei had its hands full. However, it was the Galaxy S8 and S8+ that took home the coveted Best Smartphone award. The judges called it a "do-it-all" device and commended it for the Infinity Display, "excellent" camera and even the maligned Bixby assistant. Samsung Galaxy S8 / S8+: Best Smartphone Huawei received the Best Consumer Smartphone award for the Honor 8 Pro, for its looks, VR capabilities and powerful battery. The Huawei P10 was awarded Best Smartphone camera for its Leica-branded module and its portrait mode. The Huawei Watch 2 was...
Sony Xperia XZ1 rear panels show extra large hole for the flash
The XZs was a stopgap measure, the Xperia XZ1 is Sony's actual next-gen maistream flagship. It will be smaller than the XZ Premium (a 5.2" screen is expected), but will share the Snapdragon 835 chipset, awesome camera and squarish design. The latter you can see in these photos, which show the rear panel of the XZ1. They are metal, of course, and once all the seals are in, they should be waterproof too - the things we expect from Xperia flagships. But what's with the extra large flash hole? It's bigger than the one on the XZ Premium. Perhaps the Xperia XZ1 will have additional focus...
Lenovo teases IFA lineup in video
"Showcase all the things" appears to be the Lenovo motto (excuse the pun) at IFA 2017 in Berlin. The conference is scheduled in two weeks, and the company posted a video on YouTube, giving a sneak peek of the devices it will reveal to the audience. One smartphone, featured in the video, is the Moto Z2 Force, attached to a Moto Mod with a 360-degree camera. We also see a kid being genuinely impressed by the Phab2 Pro with Tango AR by Google. There is also an appearance by the Hasselblad Moto mod. We are yet to decipher if Lenovo is also planning new devices...
Sharp Aquos S2 taken apart, a bezel-less phone that's well put together
It may look like the Essential phone, but the Sharp Aquos S2 is its own thing. The company has been making bezel-less phones before everyone else jumped on that bandwagon and it shows in how skillfully the S2 is put together. The rear panel is held together with just glue, but many components on the inside are screwed down. Everything comes apart fairly easily, once you get past the back panel (you'll need a heat gun and suction cups for that). Taking apart the Sharp Aquos S2 That selfie camera that cuts into the screen did require some acrobatics by the engineers. It...
Galaxy Note8 shines on GFXBench and AnTuTu, 6.4" display confirmed
Samsung Galaxy Note8 will be unveiled next week but a lot of specs are already known, like the dual camera or the Infinity Display. Now the phone leaked on GFXBench and AnTuTu, giving us a glimpse of its specs. This device will be the first Galaxy Note with 6 GB RAM. AnTuTu GFXBench Looking at the AnTuTu listing, we see the model number SM-N9500, hinting that this might be the Chinese version of the Galaxy Note8. The chipset is Snapdragon 835 with the Adreno 540 GPU. The dual camera setup will be 12 MP + 8 MP, and the Android will be the latest Nougat 7.1.1. The SM-N9500...
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A found on TENAA: 720p screen, no Snapdragon 625 chipset
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A has resurfaced, this time from a highly reliable source - TENAA. And we have some bad news, it's not going to have a 1080p screen nor a Snapdragon 625 chipset. There are four models in total, but really only two major versions. Both have a 5.5" 720p screen (an LCD) and a 3,000mAh battery inside a metal body that's 7.3mm thick. A variety of color options will be available: Black, Gray, Silver, White, Blue, Pink, Red and Gold. Where the models differ is chipset and camera. TENAA doesn't specify, but we think the available chipsets are the Snapdragon 425 (quad-core...
Huawei Mate 10 renders leak
While we already know a few things about the Huawei Mate 10, its design has largely been a mystery. Well, that changes now, as renders alleged to be of the phone have leaked, showing both front and back. The image above reveals a bezelless display, which was already confirmed by the company CEO. In addition to design, the leak also reveals some of the key specs for the device, including Kirin 970 SoC, 6.1-inch QHD display, and 6GB/64GB memory config. The handset is also said to come with Lecia-branded dual rear-camera setup, and run Android 7.0 Nougat. Battery capacity is said...
