Thunder Purple OnePlus 6T appears in official promo images

Last Thursday we saw a Thunder Purple version of the OnePlus 6T appear on the company support page and briefly listed on Amazon Germany. During the weekend, official promo images surfaced, revealing the phone's color. OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple The Thunder Purple OnePlus 6T appears to have a gradient hue that goes all the way from violet to lilac to amaranth shade of pink, depending on how the back panel is reflecting the light. All previous gradient backgrounds arrived with a glass panel or another transparent solution, meaning the Thunder Purple version will be closer to the...

First nubia X flash sale ends with 100,000 devices sold in 57 seconds

One way to remove the front-facing camera but still have selfies is to have a secondary screen on the back. That's what the ZTE subsidiary nubia did with their latest flagship Nubia X that was introduced last week. The phone was announced for sale in three colors and with three memory configurations and all 100,000 units were gone in under a minute. With a post on Weibo, nubia boasted about ending the first flash sale in just 57 seconds. It is planning to do a second one, scheduled for exactly at midnight on November 11, also known as Global Shopping Festival Day in China. The...

Top 10 trending phones of week 44

The super busy October is now over, but the effects of all the new launches are still felt in our popularity chart. Not a single phone has managed to stay on top for two weeks in a row for nine straight weeks now. The OnePlus 6T debuted on Monday and immediately captured everybody's attention and ended up leading the chart. Meanwhile the Galaxy A7 (2018) leveraged on its expanding market presence and powerful marketing campaign to wrestle the second place away from the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Last week's leader Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is now down to fourth, just ahead of its stablemates Redmi Note...

New devices of the week - the attack of the sliders

October is over and November is upon us, but new smartphone releases don't seem to be slowing down. And we had some pretty interesting devices thrown our way this week. The week kicked off with the OnePlus 6T with its under-display fingerprint reader that seems to be the best one around. The notch and the bezels are also slimmed significantly and with the new and improved camera software, the phone won many Android fan's hearts, at least according to our daily interest ranking. On the next day, Apple dropped two new iPads with all new design, chipsets, Face ID and a multi-functional...

Why I won't be buying the new OnePlus 6T even though it's a great phone

Let me get this straight. I'm a OnePlus fan ever since the OnePlus One came to be four years ago. Note that I'm a fan of the phones, not the company as in my eyes, those are two different things. And it's not that I dislike the OnePlus 6T per se, but I believe that it provides insufficient reasons to upgrade. And if you are here to read the usual stuff like the lack of 3.5mm audio jack, wireless charging, microSD card support and water and dust protection, move over. We've been through this too many times and I don't find any of those a deal-breaker for me. I stream my music and videos...

Our Huawei Mate 20 Pro video review is up

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the latest to come from Huawei and its shaping up to be the best phone of the year thus far. While that is a bold statement to make, the Mate 20 Pro checks all the right boxes: a large 6.39-inch dual-curved AMOLED screen with QHD resolution, in-display fingerprint scanner, a large 4,200 mAh battery, wireless charging, water proofing, and 3D face unlock. The camera is also really nice. It's a step above that on the Huawei P20 Pro, which was already a really beastly camera. With the Mate 20 Pro, Huawei swapped the monochrome sensor for an ultra-wide so...

Week 44 in review: OnePlus 6T, new iPad Pros, Honor Magic 2 announced

We wrapped up the last week of what ended up the busiest month of the year. Since October began we saw the Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL become official, the Huawei Mate 20 family, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, the LG V40 ThinQ and now we can finalize the grand debuts with the OnePlus 6T. OnePlus waited until the very end of the month to make its 6T official but it wasted no time in bringing it to the market - it's already on sale in the US and India and it will hit Europe next week. Apple brought out its revamped iPad Pros - now in 11-inch and 12.9-inch flavors with reduced bezels and top notch...

Counterclockwise: extinct cable connectors for mobile phones

The "U" in USB stands for "universal". The port has certainly lived up to its name, it's the default way to deliver data and power to electronic devices. In fact, USB-C is just about the only port used on new Macs (other than an ironic 3.5mm headphone jack) and it's definitely the only port on the new iPad Pros. The path to this wonderful land of "one port to rule them all" is littered with the remains of many proprietary standards. Today we'll be looking at a few of them. Nokia Pop-Port While it was officially standardized in 2002, Pop-Port like connectors have been on Nokia phones...

Weekly poll: are you getting a OnePlus 6T?

This was a huge week for OnePlus - the young phone maker unveiled the OnePlus 6T, but more importantly it got a solid footing in the US market with support from T-Mobile and Qualcomm. The people crowded the streets to grab one, the launch went as well as the company could have possibly hoped. But is it a good phone? The new design reigned in the large notch of the OnePlus 6 and introduced an in-display fingerprint reader, which is among the best we've seen. The battery capacity was also increased to a respectable 3,700mAh. Also, the base storage was upped to 128GB to offset the...

Price history of Apple's iPhones: how did we get to €1,600?

The top-specced version of the Apple iPhone XS Max (with 512GB storage) costs €1,650 or even more in some markets - some would argue you'd be better off buying a car for that kind of money. Apple's phones have certainly gotten pricier over the years, a process that we though was gradual until we tried plotting the data on a chart. Looking at the results, the lines rise at a pretty steep angle. We start with the iPhone 4S in 2011 and here's why: the early iPhones heavily relied on carrier subsidies, so their true cost was hidden (and is difficult to calculate now). Instead, we're using the...
