Sony Xperia 1 update brings much needed camera stability improvements

Sony's Xperia 1 is now receiving a new software update. It's not a big one, but it might be important because it promises to improve picture quality and zoom framing for the camera, as well as deliver a more optimized camera interface and a more stable shooting experience overall. All of this has been a long time coming and there was definitely a need for more stability and reliability in the camera's performance. Additionally, Bluetooth connections to headsets should be more stable, and there are some power management enhancements too - so maybe you'll get a teeny tiny bit more...

T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy S8 Active finally gets Android 9 Pie

T-Mobile and Samsung have finally started sending out the update to Android 9 Pie for the magenta carrier's version of the Galaxy S8 Active. Late? Definitely. Not just considering that Google has already released Android 10 for its Pixel smartphones, but T-Mobile's own non-Active Galaxy S8 got to taste Pie nearly six months ago. Anyway, it is what it is. Unfortunately the Active models have always lagged behind in software updates, so it's probably best to focus on the fact that Pie is finally here for T-Mobile's S8 Active. The update arrives over-the-air as a 1.6GB download. Upon...

Two new, extensive hands-on videos of the Google Pixel 4 leak

The Pixel 4 leaks are landing multiple times a day right now, and surely that's all coincidental and nothing to do with the fact that Apple unveiled some new iPhones yesterday. This time around we get not one but two detailed hands-on videos of Google's upcoming phones. The first one only shows the white model, but the second one has the black and orange hues too. Interestingly, the frame is black no matter what color you pick. That makes for a 'panda' look with the white one, and a really strange look for the orange version. Anyway, neither video is in English, be warned. Still,...

Samsung will shut down SideSync on October 15, Samsung Flow lives on

Samsung is notifying SideSync users that the service will shut down on October 15. For those of you that haven't used SideSync, it gives you control of your smartphone through a PC or Mac. Samsung has had a replacement service for SideSync, called Samsung Flow, and it will continue to operate so SideSync loyals can switch over to that one. There have been alternative services that do most of what SideSync does, like PushBullet, TeamViewer and AirDroid. Source

Samsung Galaxy M10s will have an AMOLED screen, ultrawide cam and fast charging

The Samsung Galaxy M10s has appeared in an Android Enterprise listing, revealing a larger screen and more memory compared to the current Galaxy M10. Also, a PDF containing the user manual has surfaced, revealing even more details. The Galaxy M10s will have a 6.4" screen with an AMOLED panel, up from a 6.22" LCD. The resolution is likely to stay at 720p+, however. The phone also gains a fingerprint reader on the back. Geekbench points to a faster chipset, Exynos 7885 Octa, which has two Cortex-A73 cores, plus a more modern Mali-G71 MP2 GPU compared to the 7870 chip in the M10. The...

Apple's iPhone 11 launch fails to impress Asian markets

Asian markets woke up to a brand new phones from Apple, but the iPhone 11 has failed to excite locals, which are used to getting feature-packed phones on a budget. Apple lower price for its entry level model, from the $750 iPhone XR to $700 for the iPhone 11, caused some discussion but analysts are skeptical. They believe this move aims to recapture lost ground in China, where Apple's market share has been slipping in recent quarters as people flock to Huawei phones (partly to support the home-grown brand in the midst of the US trade war, but also because of pricing considerations). The...

Samsung's PlayGalaxy Link app goes into beta, lets you stream PC games to your Galaxy Note10

A beta version of Samsung's PlayGalaxy Link app has launched - it's currently available in the US and South Korea running on the Galaxy Note10 and Note10+. More countries and Samsung devices (including tablets) will be supported soon. PlayGalaxy can stream a game running on your PC to your phone, so you can play locally (over Wi-Fi) or while on the go (4G works, but 5G's lower latency will be better here). This is essentially Samsung's version of Nvidia GameStream and Steam Link. On the mobile side, you'll need some controllers - Bluetooth gamepads as well as old school setups with...

Apple iPhone 11 Pro upgrade: the good, the bad and the ugly

Apple's upbeat presentation did an excellent job of highlighting the advanced new features on the iPhone 11 Pro duo - all that positive energy also helped it hide some of the missing upgrades that we expected (there were even some downgrades). Here's a rundown of the good, the bad and the ugly. Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max and 11 Pro • iPhone 11 Pro Max • iPhone 11 Pro The Good The triple camera is feature that makes these phones worth buying. The new member here is a 12MP ultra wide-angle camera (13mm or 120°). It enables 0.5x optical zoom to fit more in the photo - or the video,...

Huawei Mate 30 retail box pictured

The Huawei Mate 30 series is launching very soon so it's about time to start seeing the retail boxes. And just in time, we came across two photos showing off the box from the front and the side. Huawei Mate 30 retail box Clearly, the box contains the regular Mate 30 and it's designated for the Chinese market. The side of the box doesn't give away too much information but it does confirm the existence of the 6GB/128GB base variant. Other than that, there's nothing we can learn from these so all we can do for now is wait - either for the official release or something...

Redmi 8A stops by TENAA, images in tow

The Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro are out in the wild now but the budget offering from the series, the Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A are yet to be announced. And it appears that the latter is pretty close to launch judging by the TENAA listing. Redmi 8A from all sides The listing is still incomplete and lacks any detail surrounding the phone except for a couple of images. This means that the handset will go through the full certification process real soon, which in turn indicates that the device is inching closer to launch. The images themselves aren't all that revealing. We can say...

Apple iPhone 11 upgrade: the good, the bad and the ugly

Yesterday Apple unveiled the iPhone 11 alongside the two iPhone 11 Pro models. Its predecessor was Apple's best selling phone so it has big shoes to fill. Despite the clever naming change, the iPhone 11 is the successor to the iPhone XR and not the iPhone XS. It has a lot in common with the iPhone XR and brings a number of improvements. But it also failed to bring some expected upgrades and actually has a downgrade or two. So let's take a dive into the iPhone 11 and see which is good, which is bad and which is straight up ugly. The good The Apple iPhone 11 packs Apple's latest 7nm...

Motorola One Macro passes through Geekbench, live image surfaces

Last month specifications of an unknown Motorola smartphone, said to be the Moto G8 Play, surfaced. Now we learn it's the One Macro and not the G8 Play. The same source who leaked the specs has now leaked a live image of the One Macro which confirms the phone will sport a notched display, thick chin, and a purple-colored power key and volume rocker on the right side. The One Macro also passed through Geekbench revealing key specs - Helio P60 SoC, 2GB RAM, and Android Pie.
