vivo X60 Pro+ gets 3C certified with 55W charging

The vivo X60 and X60 Pro unveiled last week charge at up to 33W, but the X60 Pro+ that's expected to arrive soon will go faster. The X60 Pro+, sporting model designation V2056A, has been certified by China's 3C with 55W charging. The 3C listing also reveals that X60 Pro+ will support 5G networks, but that's hardly a surprise since the vanilla X60 and Pro variants are also compatible with the next-gen networks. The Chinese certifying authority doesn't divulge any other details about the X60 Pro+, but thanks to Geekbench, we know it will come with Snapdragon 888 SoC and 12GB RAM. The...

New Nest Hub device passes FCC with Pixel 4’s Motion Sense hardware

A new device with model designation A4R-GUIK2, described as “interactive device” has just passed through the FCC. Historically, this is how Google’s Nest Hub devices are listed in the FCC. The incoming Hub device will offer Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Zigbee connectivity. The latter is a protocol specifically for interfacing with smart home devices. The listing includes an FCC e-label, which shows that the device is likely to have a display. This label can be looked up by going into Settings > Regulatory labels. Apart from the display and the expected connectivity options, the more interesting...

Ericsson’s CEO petitions Swedish Minister of Foreign Trade to overturn Huawei and ZTE ban in Sweden

Over the weekend, a report surfaced that Ericsson CEO Borje Ekholm attempted to persuade the Swedish Minister of Foreign Trade to reverse a ban that was imposed. The ban would require telecom companies in Sweden to phase out any Huawei or ZTE 5G equipment by the beginning of 2025. The Executive sent the Minister, Anna Hallberg, a series of text messages that pleaded her to take a look at the ban’s order that was imposed by the PTS (Swedish Post and Telecom Authority). Ekholm has previously expressed his concerns about the ban, which would put pressure on vendors and risks creating a...

Google's January Android update should improve auto-rotation on all Pixels

Today is the first Monday of the month, so you know what that means, right? It's time for Google's monthly update to go out to Pixel smartphones left and right. This time around, the new software comes with "further improvements" for auto-brightness response in certain lighting conditions for the Pixel 4a, 4a 5G, and 5, and "further improvements for auto-rotation response in certain device orientations" for all of the Pixels that are still supported. Aside from these, you're also getting "further tuning and improvements for volume level of system sounds" for the Pixel 5, a fix for...

Redmi Note 9T specs and EU prices appear, looks like a rebranded Redmi Note 9 5G

Xiaomi is already in full-on teaser mode for the Redmi Note 9T, the latest member of the vast and confusing Redmi/Note 9 family of smartphones. We've seen it getting benchmarked last week, and today more information about it has been outed from a few sources. First up, we have the promo images you can see below, one of which talks about the handset's main specs. As you can see, it should have a 48 MP main camera, a 6.53" FHD+ hole-punch display, dual speakers, NFC, and a 5,000 mAh battery with 18W charging. It's powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 800U chipset, but we already knew that...

Images and basic specs of Moto G Power (2021) and Moto G Play (2021) leak

It’s only a few days into the new year, but Motorola already has several G-series models on the way. Let’s start with the Moto G Power (2021) as that requires some explanation. This is actually a variation of the Moto G10 Play, which leaked in November. It’s for the US market and has the model number XT-2117. The phone can be seen as a “lite” version of the Moto G9 Power, which went official in November. It will use the same Snapdragon 662 chipset, but with less memory – there will be two versions, 3/32 GB and 4/64 GB. Also, the main camera will step down from 64 MP to 48 MP and the selfie...

Rumors of Kirin 9010 built on 3 nm surface, but that's not happening (this year)

Weibo is abuzz with talk that Huawei’s HiSilicon is in the advanced stages of developing its next-generation chipset, which will be manufactured on a 3nm node. The source of this appears to be leakster Teme (RODENT950), who dubbed the chip the Kirin 9010. While Huawei (and all other chipset makers) are undoubtedly planning for the 3nm future, those really are future plans instead of something for later this year – TSMC has stated that it plans to start volume production of 3nm chips in the second half of 2022. And TSMC is the most likely foundry for the next Kirin chip, especially if it is...

OnePlus 9 Pro to gain 45W wireless charging, but not the OnePlus 9

OnePlus has been slowly adding must-have flagship features to its phones over the years and last year it finally ticked off wireless charging with the OnePlus 8 Pro. The company will take things up another notch in 2021 by giving both the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro wireless charging, with the 9 Pro pushing the speed all the way up to 45W. Last year's OnePlus 8 Pro could do 30W, which was already amazingly fast. The OnePlus 9 Pro would most certainly require a proprietary wireless charger in order to achieve 45W, just like the OnePlus 8 Pro needed one for 30W. It's unclear at what...

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro appear in hands-on video

The latest addition to Samsung’s TWS lineup is yet to be announced but that isn’t stopping YouTuber Jeff Schick (aka Digital Slang) to post an unboxing and first impressions video of the Galaxy Buds Pro on his channel. This is the first time we’re seeing the earphones live on video and we can see they match up with the rumors from the past couple of months. The spec list confirms 5 hours of endurance on the buds themselves and a total of 18 hours with the charging case as well as IPX7 rating, side touch controls and active noise cancelation. They also support wireless charging as their...

Snapdragon 480 is the first 4-series 5G chipset from Qualcomm

Qualcomm’s budget-friendly 4-series chipset line just got its first 5G SoC with the freshly announced Snapdragon 480. It’s bound to power more affordable 5G phones in the coming year. The chipset is built on the 8nm process and comes with an integrated Snapdragon X51 5G Modem-RF system with support for both mmWave and Sub-6 GHz networks. On the CPU side, we have the Kryo 460 performance cores based on the Cortex-A76 clocked at 2.0GHz alongside more power-efficient A55 cores working at 1.8GHz. The GPU is an Adreno 619. Galaxy S21 Ultra to have a microSD card slot, S21 and S21+ to miss out

Samsung may be removing the bundled charger and earphones with its Galaxy S21 lineup and it seems that won’t be the only omission. Two weeks ago we got a detailed spec leak on the Galaxy S21 and S21+ which claimed neither device will come with a microSD card slot and now Roland Quandt is confirming these speculations. Disclaimer #2: This is for Europe. Do not have any info on other regions.— Roland Quandt (@rquandt) January 4, 2021 According to Quandt, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will be the only S21 member to come with expandable memory in Europe. It remains to be seen if this will be the...

The Honor V40 launch may have been delayed (again), but pre-registrations go live

The Honor V40 was originally scheduled for a mid-December launch, but perhaps due to the change of ownership of the brand that was pushed back to January. Now it seems that there has been another bump in the road, though a small one. Soon after the sale of the brand was announced, the Honor CEO wrote a letter to fans, promising an immediate launch of a new phone. In that letter the CEO wrote how excited he was to meet with fans and talk to them about the future of Honor. The thing is, however, some tipsters are reporting that the annual meeting of Honor fans will be pushed back from the...

New leak shows Galaxy S21 Ultra case designed specifically for the S Pen

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra will steal some of Note’s thunder as it too will support the S Pen. However, this will be more of an add-on than a native feature. The S21 Ultra retail package will not include a stylus and the phone has nowhere to house the stylus in the first place. Instead, the S Pen will be a separate purchase – either by itself or as part of a bundle with select cases. Those cases are a vital part of the equation as they will house the stylus alongside the phone. S View Flip Cover with S Pen for the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra You can see that in these renders...
