Top 20 phones of H1 of 2019

With the first half of 2019 in the books it's time to take a look back at what phones it brought us and which of them really got your attention. There's an interesting stat if we look at the 20 phones in the list below. Nokia is represented by the Nokia 9 PureView, Oppo has the F11 Pro in the list, Huawei has the entire P30 lineup, Xiaomi has 5 phones and Samsung has an unprecedented 10 phones among the 20 most popular. Think about that for a moment - every other interesting phone to come out in the past six months was made by Samsung. That's impressive and it's a clear indication...

Weekly poll results: Mi CC9 loved, CC9e splits opinions

As Xiaomi keeps adding new product lines it gets harder to find the phone that suits you best. However, last week's poll shows that our readers had no trouble figuring out the new CC9 series. Long story short, one is great and the other is a tough sell. Two out of three people are in favor of the Xiaomi Mi CC9. That's a very positive result considering this model is up against the Redmi K20, which proved extremely popular in a poll a month ago. The Xiaomi Mi CC9e split opinions right down the middle - the poll ended at 50%-50% for and against the phone. That 720p+ screen is a real...

Flashback: Nokia 5800 XpressMusic - the little touchscreen that couldn't

In our new Flashback series we'll be taking a look back at some of the devices and events that shaped the mobile phone industry and brought us where we are today. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic was a good phone for its time and with 8 million units sold in the first year of availability, it proved to be a commercial success by the Finnish giant, which was on top of the world. But if we remove our rose-colored glasses, we can see that this phone marked the beginning of the end of Nokia's dominance. When it came out in late 2008, the 5800 had just about everything you can want from a...

Huawei's filed for another trademark for an OS - Harmony

Huawei has filed a trademark application with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, attempting to register the name Harmony for an operating system for mobile and computer use. The application is dated July 12, 2019, and is currently under examination. Huawei P30 Pro running Android 9.0 Pie-based EMUI Harmony joins Ark as the moniker the company may use on the global market for its in-house operating system. Conceived as HongMeng OS (which could also turn out to be the official name in some places, who knows), it has been in development for some time now, with reports...

Facebook to settle FTC probe for $5 billion, pending Justice Department approval

Facebook and the US Federal Trade Commission have agreed to a $5 billion settlement in the investigation over the social network's questionable practices in handling user data. The settlement now needs to be approved by the Justice Department, which is seen as just a procedural step with little possibility for a change in the outcome. The probe was started in early 2018 after it was revealed that user data Facebook shared with analytics company Cambridge Analytica was used to influence the 2016 presidential campaign. Subsequently, other controversial practices came to light, like...

HTC Wildfire E probably exists: 5.45-inch LCD, Unisoc chipset and 2GB of RAM in it

HTC's future can't be too bright even though a recent financial report did bring some good news. The company is still working on new smartphones however, as evidenced by a report out of Russia. A retailer in the country has information on what is called the HTC Wildfire E, a throwback to the Wildfire S of 2011. The yet unannounced model supposedly has a 5.45-inch IPS display with an HD+ resolution in an 18:9 ratio. HTC Wildfire S from 2011 There's a Unisoc (formerly Spreadtrum) SoC in charge, the SC9863 in particular, with an octa-core Cortex-A55 processor in a...

Samsung Galaxy Note10 and 10+ renders galore, also a pink Watch Active2

The Samsung Galaxy Note10 is due to be announced on August 7 in two flavors - regular and plus. We've had a look at both previously, but we now have a few more renders in what are likely going to be the two paintjobs available at launch. Galaxy Note10+ renders These renders bring little new information - we already knew that the Bixby button is a goner and for whatever reason the power button has been moved to the left in its place. And while an earlier third-party CAD-based render gave us a glimpse of the bottom of the Note10+, we're still not getting one of these...

Live images of Xiaomi Mi A3 and its retail box confirm specs and design

Earlier today, specifications and renders of the Xiaomi Mi A3 leaked telling us what to expect from this smartphone. And now, an anonymous tipster has sent us a few images of the Mi A3 and its retail box which confirm the phone's design and key specs. The white-colored retail box confirms that Mi A3 will come in Blue and White shades. But one of the images show the phone in Black as well. Xiaomi Mi A3 and its retail box The Mi A3 has a notched display on the front, and around the back is a triple camera setup aligned vertically in the upper-left corner. You can also see that...

Samsung Galaxy A10e now available in the US through AT&T

The Samsung Galaxy A10e is finally available in the US through AT&T. It was announced with a price tag of $179.99 but is sold at $210 by the American carrier. If you don't want to pay the full amount at once, you have the option of buying it at 30-month installments of $7 each. But for a limited time, AT&T is offering it at an EMI of $1/month. The Galaxy A10e shares much of its design and internals with the A10, except that it comes with an Exynos 7884B SoC, a slightly smaller screen and battery, and an 8MP rear camera. Source | Via

Xiaomi Mi A3 specs and renders surface

Specifications and renders of the Xiaomi Mi A3, which is expected to go official soon, have surfaced. The Mi A3 has a design different than its predecessor, Mi A2, and looks similar to the recently announced Mi CC9. It has a notched display and boasts a triple camera setup at the back. The Mi A2 came with a metal build while the Mi A3 appears to be made of glass. Furthermore, the Mi A2 had a fingerprint scanner on its back but the Mi A3 doesn't have one, which implies it's likely embedded in the screen. Additionally, the Mi A2 had the headphone jack missing which turned out to be a...
