vivo X23 set to arrive on September 6

The vivo X23 appeared numerous times in the past few weeks, including some live photos and official teasers by the company. Today the manufacturer announced on Weibo the official release date of the upcoming smartphone - September 6. It is the same day the vivo V11 Pro is being outed in India, meaning both phones might be the same but with a different moniker for different markets. The upcoming vivo X23 will have fourth-generation under-display fingerprint scanner. It should be faster and more reliable than the one in the vivo NEX S, according to the company. The screen has evolved...

Week 34 in review: Pocophone F1, Oppo R17 Pro and a bunch of leaks

A rather exiting week, this one. It saw the debut of the Oppo R17 Pro with its triple rear camera, in-display fingerprint sensor and insanely fast SuperVOOC charging. We also got the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 - a Snapdragon 845 powerhouse at the hard to believe price of $300. Meanwhile, the Google Pixel 3 XL, which is still about two months away from its official announcement got reviewed in detail, revealing all there's to know about it. And yes, the giant notch rumors were correct, sadly. A bunch of other pre-IFA leaks also appeared. You can check out the full list of our most read...

Sunday debate: Curved vs. flat screens

Ro: It's all about usability and curved screens don't really do that. It all began when Samsung unveiled its first-ever smartphone with a curved screen, the Galaxy Note Edge. It was a jaw-dropping device in an era when almost all smartphones were looking dull and pretty much the same. It also offered extended functionality on the edge. Almost a year later, the Galaxy S6 edge was announced with more features and curvature on both sides of the phone. And here's where things started to go downhill. Galaxy S6 edge Every phone released after that, not only Samsung handsets, was...

Top 10 trending phones of week 34

The Samsung Galaxy Note9 only spent one week on top of our top 10 trending chart, before it had to concede it to the Xiaomi Pocophone F1. The cheapest Snapdragon 845 smartphone caused some real shockwaves and if Xiaomi can actually produce it in volume it might have a real winner on its hands. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is another phone on the rise, capturing third, ahead of last week's runner up - the Mi A2. In fifth and sixth we have a couple of new faces - the Oppo F9 slotting ahead of the Nokia 6.1 Plus or Nokia X6 as it was previously known. The Huawei P Smart+ lost a lot of...

Weekly poll: Xiaomi Pocophone F1, how hot is it?

There are some phone launches that shake up the mobile industry. For example, in 2012 the $300 Nexus 4 (later $200) changed what people consider an acceptable price for a flagship. Then in 2014 the $300 OnePlus One did the same. Then there were four years of darkness that had people question if $1,000 is a sane price for a flagship with a Snapdragon 845 chipset. Well, it's not - not when Xiaomi's Pocophone F1 is on the market. It hits that same magical price of $300 and while phones like the Xiaomi Mi 8 and Asus Zenfone 5z were already pretty affordable, this draws a clear line in the...

Weekend phone talk: Chip

Hi guys, this is Chip and this week it's my turn to share my thoughts on the year so far and my expectations for the months to come. I thought I'll try a slightly different format to make this more manageable, splitting it all in three. Let's start with the big gainers of 2018. The winners Huawei The Chinese company overtook Apple as the world's second largest phone maker by volume thanks to its huge portfolio of phones. It's got something for every budget and there are plenty of categories where its phones are an easy recommendation. Huawei also showed that it's not only good...

Sony Xperia XA2 Plus in for review

The Sony Xperia XA2 Plus is a mid-season upgrade to the XA2 Ultra. It introduces the first 18:9 screen to the mid-range series - a 6" 1080p+ panel - and offers almost the same surface area, but in a phone that's both narrower and shorter. The Gorilla Glass protection was updated to version 5 (up from 4) to boot. There's a new tier that offer 6GB of RAM (and 64GB storage), up from 4GB max in the Ultra. The base remains at 4GB/32GB and the chipset is the same as well - Snapdragon 630. A tall 18:9 screen is a first for the Xperia XA series • The XA2 Plus is more compact than the...
